However, on this visit (2023) the creek was, in my opinion, unfishable. Beavers had taken over, and what had previously been a treasure was now a series of shallow beaver ponds, surrounded by marsh and dense willows. It must be noted that Oleo has three small stock ponds, but for fly fishermen like myself, they have zero appeal. The cabins have no internet or cell service. By itself, this would be a plus, but for this visit, it meant that I had to drive 20 plus miles (each way) to Lake City to get internet service and fishing information. Accessing public fishing required a drive of a similar distance. For me, driving for two hours removes the feeling of rustic charm that would otherwise be there. After returning from such a drive, I wanted a motel-like experience, where I could just turn on the lights and watch some TV. Further, management got my reservation days mixed up. On arrival I was given a check out notice that was a day less than I had reserved. As a result, I mistakenly left a day early. Finally, after paying for the reservation, I was surprised to see two "junk fees" on my bill: a $125 "cleaning fee" as well as a $35.78 "processing fee". My feedback email to Oleo, which contained this information, was unanswered as of 48 hours. I cannot recommend this destination.

The owners are practicing great Covid measures, everything was clean! The cabins are simple but stocked with everything you need except food and clothing :) Don't expect luxury... expect rustic, quiet and peaceful!!! I just enjoyed sitting on the porch of my cabin soaking in the scenery and laughing at the myriad of hummingbirds fighting at the feeders! I'll be back!!

The first night we showed up in Ouray, every hotel was booked and every campground was full. We talked to Steve, the camp host, to see if there were any openings For the rest of the week and much to our surprise, someone had just canceled and we were able to get their spot! Such a blessing! The bathrooms are clean, the views are gorgeous, and the spots are the perfect size. The spots do book up very fast, so plan ahead!

Even coming from the "easy" approach (from Ouray, not from Telluride), our rental vehicles struggled in perfect weather. 4WD recommended for any trip there. 2. Opus Hut has bathrooms, but zero bath/showers. There is an out building with a wood-burning sauna, but that is as close as it gets. 3. Be prepared for a significant vertical hike at nearly 12,000 ft. elevation to get there from your car with all of your gear. 4. Be prepared for cold! Even in the summer it is cool and evenings are cold. There are stoves but no central heating. 5. Know that you are getting away from it all, and plan to get nowhere else while you are there, except for some beautiful hiking trails in the amazing mountain setting. 6. No internet or cell phone coverage. See #5. 7. The Hut has no soundproofing, so hopefully your group all likes going to bed or being quiet at the same time. My room had a giant window with no cover, so I was up with the sun every morning. Again, all of these issues have both pros and cons to them, and my 3-star review is classified by Yelp as "A-OK". So if you aren't scared off by this information, you'll probably have a great time.

Bob was an amazing host and great cook. The hut was in a great & remote location surrounded by days of hikes. If you drive from Telluride tho, make sure you have a true 4x4 with actual clearance. We took the drive with a semi 4wd rental car and it was probably the most freighting experience of our lives ha. Poor planing on our side hut hopefully a lesson learnt for others. Came here the second week in September (post Labor Day) and we got lucky scoring the last vacant campsite (site 17). The host Jeff was so welcoming and gave us some surrounding + weather details. This campgrounds is perfect if you hike Ice lakes trail. It's a busy/popular hike so, the earlier the better. Will hopefully get lucky to get a camping site as I'd love to visit/stay here again.

We struggled to breathe a lot but found the inclines and the hikes to be pretty easy. The entire hike had always rewarded us with amazing views, and we got two lakes for the price of one. It took us only 20 minutes to island lake from ice lake (go right and cross a stream). There was a constant threat of storms, but we weren't turning around. There were campers at ice lake and island lake. I'm afraid of heights, and I was scared once on the ice lake trail and twice on the island lake trail...nothing too bad though. We saw many wildflowers going to ice lake and many marmots going to island lake. There were places to use the bathroom along the trail, at ice lake (behind boulders), and island lake (boulders). The park and trails are well maintained. Trekking poles were helpful. Finding the trail head from the parking lot was easy. There was plenty of parking at 9:30 am. People parked around the perimeter of the parking lot and the side of the road. There was a restroom in the parking lot. The trail is obvious, although not always marked. There are tons of people that hike it at all hours. Side trails are 2 ft wide. The main trail is 4 ft wide. Tips: bring water, snacks, rain gear, trekking poles, a light. Also, travel light. In conclusion, we handled ice lakes well probably due to having adjusted to the altitude, using oxygen canisters, inhalers, and traveling with light day packs. We weren't that sore afterward either. We were just tired. Also, There are no pages in the trail register. We saw people hiking even around dark though. We are from Texas and we're hot the entire time. The creek crossings weren't bad enough to need water shoes unless it's raining. The water is ice cold. You must do island lake. If you can't camp at South Mineral then stay in Silverton.

We chose to stay here…read morebecause they have full hookups, bathrooms and showers on-site, and they exceeded our expectations. Both were exceptionally clean throughout our stay. I noticed a review mentioning there weren't enough bathrooms, but that wasn't our experience at all. We never had an issue, and the facilities were always clean and well maintained. Check-in was quick and easy, the campground was clean, and everyone we encountered was friendly. It was incredibly peaceful and quiet, making it the perfect place to relax. We stayed during a fire ban, and the campground handled everything well without any issues. One of the highlights of our trip was taking our kids for ice cream at the campground. They serve ice cream every evening from 6-9 p.m. (except Sundays, if I remember correctly), and it was such a fun treat that our kids looked forward to. It was a small touch that made our stay even more memorable. Overall, this was a wonderful place to stay, and we would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, quiet, and welcoming campground. We can't wait to come back!

We were brought homemade treats every morning and visits by the owner's adorable little boys was icing on the cake. I'm not really a B & B type person but this setting was perfect....AND the location was pretty good too... could walk to everything in Creede.
