{THIS IS FOR THE MADRONE LOCATION IN MORGAN HILL}…read more I had a truly positive and meaningful experience during my stay at Madrone Crisis Residential Home. The environment itself is beautiful, peaceful, and surrounded by lovely scenery that genuinely feels like a place meant for healing and recovery. There are also plenty of activities available, which made my stay even more enjoyable--everything from knitting and crocheting, yoga mats for stretching or yoga, workout machines, art supplies for creative projects, beads for making bracelets, and a wide selection of books focused on recovery and substance abuse. What made my stay especially exceptional, though, was the staff. I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to Monsae, AJ, Ariana, and Ray. Each of them went above and beyond to ensure I felt safe, comfortable, and cared for. They were consistently attentive, accommodating, hardworking, and kind. Ariana, in particular, stood out for her attentiveness and compassion--she truly made a difference in my experience. The most impactful part of my stay, however, was working with Jen, the head therapist. I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and during certain episodes, I struggle with intense feelings of isolation and anxiety, often convincing myself that everyone dislikes me. During one particularly difficult hypomanic episode, I experienced a severe panic attack while alone in my room. The staff quickly noticed I wasn't acting like myself and responded immediately. They contacted Jen, knowing I felt safe with her, and she came to support me. Jen knew exactly how to help me deescalate when nothing else was working--not even my usual coping strategies like guided meditation. Her presence, understanding, and skill truly helped me through a moment that felt unbearable. I am incredibly grateful for her. I also want to thank my case manager, Lily, who was attentive, efficient, and proactive. She helped me get approved for benefits in a timely manner and consistently followed through on everything that was needed. Her reliability made a big difference in reducing my stress. Another positive aspect of the program was how manageable everything felt. The chores were simple and easy to keep up with, which made daily life feel structured without being overwhelming. The groups and therapy sessions were on the shorter side, but they were still effective, engaging, and thought-provoking, which I really appreciated. As for feedback, I do believe there are a few areas for improvement. It would be incredibly beneficial for new clients to meet with a therapist within their first week, as adjusting to a new environment can be very anxiety-inducing. From my experience and conversations with peers, this was not always the case. Additionally, while therapists were sometimes available for brief emergency check-ins, I believe structured, weekly therapy sessions should be standard and scheduled automatically rather than only offered upon request. This could potentially prevent crises like the one I experienced. One other observation is that some of the older staff members could be perceived as less approachable or more strict with female clients compared to male clients. I noticed that rules and accountability, particularly around chores and snack policies, were not always enforced equally. Creating a more balanced and fair environment for everyone would make the experience even better. Overall, Madrone is a wonderful place filled with caring, dedicated individuals who truly want to help. The sense of support and compassion I experienced made it feel like a second home. I feel very fortunate to have been placed here and would highly recommend it to anyone in need of a supportive and healing environment. Thank you, Madrone, for everything.

He helps guide people to finding their own solutions to challenges, carefully offering just the right amount of support that, in the future, they can feel more confident about finding their own solutions but providing more help and guidance when needed. I was looking for a therapist who could help me to find the balance in my life, while looking after my children and studying and keeping my relationship alive and battle my mental health challenges. Somehow, Josh gave me the tools and the insight that I needed to help me achieve my goals and to help protect against similar struggles in the future. He helped me to gain an understanding of my habits and showed me the tools to break my bad habits. He taught me that all people are valuable and worthy. As a result I feel more in control and more confident now. This is no small feat considering that when we first started, despite knowing that I needed help, I was pretty closed to change. I am so very grateful for him and can't recommend his services enough.

I have gone through some serious difficult emotional issues over the last several years resulting…read morefrom many things, including my wife's multiple-year terminal illness and the death of 4 extremely close people in my life, including family members, all within one year. I finally decided I needed help to understand my feelings and to see if there were a way to pull myself out of the deep grinding morass in which I found myself. I wasn't sure there was. Dr. Pedersen showed me otherwise. I started seeing him at Kaiser where he was the head of his area and followed him into his private practice. I am so glad I did. Dr. Pedersen has an ability to understand one's suffering and to link it to a way out. He can allow one to understand the impact of the emotional shells exploding around one's head; how to protect from further issues, to the extent possible; and how to begin the process of repairing the damage. His extensive knowledge of therapy, as well as his knowledge of other avenues of treatment, permitted me to understand myself much better. I could see the destructive nature of certain actions I was allowing to be inflicted upon me, and I was armed with a defense mechanism. I've never taken so many notes since I was in school. And, he has the ability to convey his knowledge in a way that is understandable and can be applied in one's daily life. He gave me guidance that I applied regularly; things I never would have thought of. His therapy just works, at least it did for me. I am a much changed person. I am happy and joyful most of the time now. He got me out of some dark places. Was it easy? No. Was it worth it? Definitely. If you have issues, you need a therapist who can take you through them and show you the way out. Dr. Pedersen did it for me. From a personality side, he has a great sense of humor, he is never mean or derogatory, and he truly has a desire to help his patients. He is bright, funny, and caring. I only have the highest of respect and gratefulness for Dr. Pedersen. I don't even want to think where I might be without him. I highly recommend him.

(03/02/25) DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS WOMAN!!! SHE'S TOO…read moreBUSY!!!!! and she's RUDE. A counselor is supposed to create a safe space to talk and have each party open up amongst other things. She was shrewd (Not respectful) and yes, seemed "too busy" (mentioned over and over that she had other people that wanted help) or "too popular" to help our family after we ALREADY on-boarded with her! We decided to go with her and yes do paperwork to get us signed up. Again her bedside manner is RUDE and our whole conversation lasted maybe 5-7 minutes. Respect is a two-way street and I did NOTHING but try and obtain services with this person just have them be judgmental about me within less than 5 minutes. And again mention over and over that she had alot of other people that wanted help. Is this how most therapists talk to patients on an initial call????? People don't get on here to complain just because. We all have very busy lives and would rather be doing something else than calling a professional out for being RUDE and wasting peoples time. She was POINT BLANK discouraging towards me. She mentioned several times she ONLY works with clients that want to save the marriage and that she has a alot of other people that need her help besides us..... on our first telephone call. Yikes!!!! My husband and I wouldn't have done all the paperwork and kept calling YOU for a session if we weren't ready...... She was condescending and wanted to make sure we were ready to do "the work", which I said I was willing to do. We even waited almost a month to even talk to her and made sure to fill out all her required paperwork...... Again worst Therapist I've ever encountered. Not caring, not supportive, talks down to patients and people looking for her help, just not nice or helpful in anyway ..... Do yourself and your spouse a favor and find another therapist. Very Biased. Not a neutral therapist at all. I was simply looking to work on communication and wasn't even given a chance to speak about any real issues or have a real session. I've done therapy before and this has horrible. Hard pass!!!!!!!!! RESPECT IS A TWO WAY STREET. WHICH IS WHY WE DECLINED TO WORK WITH HER AND ALREADY FOUND ANOTHER MORE QUALIFIED THERAPIST. Her credentials mean nothing if she cant hold a respectful and meaningful conversation with people - maybe she needs more up to date training. I'm sure she graduated A LONG time ago. Yes maybe she was a good therapist and once was nice and helpful therapist long ago - but her most recent reviews are in FACT bad and rightfully so! ***Update: (03/04/25) She also came on here a day later and tried to lie/bash me and say that I was using "accusatory language" and that she declined to work with our family when in fact I DECLINED HER SERVICES after how RUDE she was on the phone - what kind of counselor does that on a first call!???? 18 years of experience .....You think she might be a little nicer to people on the phone looking for her help. I do want to save my marriage but not with this woman's help. She did NOT respond to me KINDLY, and in fact I DECLINED TO WORK WITH HER after the way she spoke to me after 5 minutes. Go ahead and giver her a call and see for yourself. Make sure you trust who you have come on board to help you and your spouse. I never have been talked to like this in my life by any doctor or therapist. I will be Filing a complaint with California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Horrible treatment and dialogue. Plus we already found another therapist on-line and HE was very helpful and took the time to meet with both my husband and I. Good luck to anyone else out there looking to work through stuff in your marriage, dont just go with anyone especially this lady! Update: 03/10/2025: This woman came on here again and tried to defend her rude behavior and again make false claims. For someone who is too busy to help others - she has alot of time to come on here and keep making remarks about me... AGAIN DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME CONTACTING THIS THERAPIST. I've already found help elsewhere and it was truly a blessing in disguise.
