Reddi Green Turf Farms is a family-owned business that sells sod. Varieties of sod include Kentucky…read moreBluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass and Fine Fescue, and Kentucky Bluegrass and Turf-type Tall Fescue. (See the business's website if you need help with choosing the type of sod or figuring out how to install it.) Each slab of sod is roughly 18" x 24" and currently (as of summer 2022) costs $0.61 per square foot. Orders of 2,400 square feet or less may be ordered within 24-48 hours of notice, and larger orders should be ordered 48+ hours in advance. The owners require "no minimum quantity," so this sod is appropriate for both large and small projects. If you need a pallet, then a deposit of $20 is required. For my project, I calculated that I needed only 48 square feet of sod, which would be 16 slabs of sod. To place my order, I filled out a form on Reddi's website. Within hours, an employee emailed me to confirm my quantity, price, and pickup time. Please note that the business's pickup times are limited, so please call them or visit their website to see their hours. I stopped by on a Friday around 5 PM. Initially, I drove past their building, but then I turned around and asked a man if I had the correct location. Make sure to look for a red building (see my attached photos). Please note also that this business accepts payment in only check or cash. The total cost for my 48 square feet of sod was $31.04, and the employee did not worry about the four pennies. One employee used a forklift to move my sod to the other side of the road, and the other employee kindly helped my husband to load the sod into the back of our SUV. We felt very pleased that the 48 square feet fit on top of a tarp in the back of our SUV. Another customer had purchased about five times as much sod, and he was putting it onto his seats... Of course, a pickup truck would be appropriate for larger amounts.

They are priced well and are very responsive and prompt with their deliveries. Was even able to leave a check for them and just a note on where to put the sod delivered after I had used them the first time. Really good people and business.

A Must-go for a traditional hayride into the fields, cut your own tree, get hot cocoa family…read moretradition! My family has been going here for years! If you want to take a hay ride into the fields you must go on the weekends. You pre-pay and select what type of tree you wish to get (Canaan's are great) then grab a provided saw, or bring your own and get on the hayride to the field. You can also take your dog(s) if you want! After you're done and get on another ride back to the barns, once there they put your tree on a shaker and wrap it in twine for transport home. Afterwards you can partake in shopping at the gift shop, buy fresh made kettle corn, or grab a drink and snack at the concession shop. This place get's very busy, but the wait times are never too long. If you prefer you can always purchase a pre-cut tree or a plantable Christmas tree, too!

Many of you old timer Pittsburghers will know this place as Dambach's Nursery. I have such fond memories of heading out early on crisp November mornings with my Dad and his trusty ancient hand saw to drive to, then very rural, Fombell, PA, which is a few clicks from fabulous downtown Zelienople. Some years we had to don our snow boots and others a light jacket. Plenty of parking (it's a farm so it's muddy - wear your muckaluks) and many folks bring their well behaved dogs. They can cart your whole tribe out to the "cut your own" trees on a hay wagon or they have delightful fresh precut trees to select from ranging in sizes from 6-11'. Make sure to bring a tape measure if you want to cut your own because all trees look a lot smaller than they really are out in the big wide open fields. You only make THAT mistake once (we had to trim almost 6" off one year). It makes for a great day and lovely memories. Check them out!
