You can easily drive; it's only a minute off of the main highway to Hilton Head. But once you're there, you're walking into an atmosphere that feels a world away. The official paths are fairly wide and well-maintained, some are roads. The estimates given by signs assumed that you were pretty slow; I made it to the shell point and back in less than half the time they said. But it was still an hour and a half in what it must be said is a pretty hostile environment. You'll want bug spray and sunscreen (preferably bought somewhere inland where it's cheaper than it is in this area). And a lot of water. I never saw so much as a port-a-potty there, and there certainly wasn't any running water. And you need a lot of water. I bet that it's a nicer place to explore during the winter, which is generally quite pleasant in South Carolina, but regardless, the fact that a free space that shows of this fascinating environment is so easily available is worth considering regardless. If you tough it out, the gothic forests and aromatic marshlands will likely leave an impression.

We visited the park on a beautiful day driving up from Pooler. We specifically visited the park to…read moreplay disc golf. The course is mainly across the street from the actual park so it's best to park along the road. The course is very technical and has tons of water. Almost every hole has lots of water or at least some swamp like areas. There are many bridges and narrow fairways. It's not the best course for beginners. There are few places you can just let it fly without fear of losing your disc. The course is in pretty good shape. There were no maps in the mailbox at the beginning of the course, so it was tricky a few times figuring out where to go and the last hole was completely confusing. There is a port-a-potty about half way though the course which is nice. The park itself is nice with a play ground, walking trails, biking trails, a gazebo and a rec room that you can rent out for birthdays and such. The park also offers bikes and canoes you can rent. We did not see any alligators but there are "watch out for alligator" signs all over the park and disc golf course.

I live in a tourist town in Florida so it's annoying but part of life in paradise. I guess the entrance fee covers your parking because it's all free once you pass the guard gates, all that's required is luck finding a space within a reasonable walking distance, I got lucky today being someone was pulling out just as I arrived at the preferred parking lot a stones throw from the pier. The pier is well constructed and offers some great views and a covered sitting area at the end. There are plenty of charter businesses that run parallel to the pier and a number of placards describing some of the local bird and sea inhabitants. I always spend some time on the local piers when visiting different areas they all seem to offer a few moments of serenity. There is also a walking beach close by that looks like it offers some shelling opportunities but today that option looks limited, I'm sure most visitors grab a few free souvenirs from here. It's a must do while visiting Harbour Town and this alone is worth the price of admission when considering the parking is free...

It does offer some distinctive variety of settings meant to evoke various Carolinian landscapes, and is pretty successful at that. The parking area only accommodates a few cars, so it isn't likely to be crowded. If you're really looking for wilderness, Pinckney Island has a lot more of it to offer, but I'm glad that this little patch of land on Hilton Head is preserved for public use.

This is an extensive paved bike and walking trail which runs around ten miles (as of this writing)…read more More development is planned as part of the larger East Coast Greenway network. This segment of trail has several parking areas, some with water, apparently one with bathrooms that I didn't make it to because I didn't have the time or energy for all ten miles on a hot day. It is built on an abandoned railroad right of way and despite running close to many of the larger roads in the area, has enough trees that it feels like green space unless you are actually crossing a road, which happens occasionally. There are some bridges over splendid estuarine habitat, and there's no reason not to check out the trail if you have time.
