a rock garden with ferns and other plants

Large garden beds that my husband and I had put so much work into a few years ago were unfortunately being neglected the past few years. Figuring out how to clean out the beds was completely overwhelming, so we contacted Victoria, owner of Victoria Gardens. She came to the house and helped us to come up with a plan. We essentially set a budget and discussed priorities for the garden, and then in 1 day she had a 3-person crew come out and completely whip the space back into shape. When I left for work that morning, the garden was overgrown and crowded, and when I came home, it had been transformed. I honestly didn't think that our garden space could look so good, and was just behind pleased by the work that had been done. My husband and I agreed that it was money extremely well spent. We are already planning on contacting Victoria to get on her schedule again for future projects.

My mom is my source of all things gardening, and she told me to go to Story's. I looked up the website (which is great) to see what they had in stock. Under "fruiting plants" in nursery stock, I found what was basically a comprehensive list of all the fruit I could think of...so we just decided to head over and take our chances. When we arrived and walked around a bit, I realized that they actually HAVE pretty much everything on that comprehensive list, because this place is massive and awesome. I don't think I can possibly list all the things they've got, but I feel pretty confident saying that their selection is better than anything you might find in the surrounding area: Trees, shrubs, evergreens, bushes, perennials, herbs, succulents, conifers, flowers, vegetables, vines...you want plants, they've got the plants. They've also got all the garden supplies you need...plant food, fertilizer, seeds, pesticides, tools, a gorgeous selection of pots, and hooks, and garden gnomes, and more. I didn't know I needed netting to keep the birds from eating my blueberries, but they did, and they've got the netting you need. I should note that my mom frowns on netting your berries, as she believes we need to share with the birds...but she's just a much better person than I am.

The service is $0. Our general landscaper relies heavily on these folks for their shrubs, trees, plants and garden supplies. In the last year we've had our home, we just let our landscaper know our mission and he'll tackle it with the type of look we want. But this time, hubs and I visited and decided to personally select( 2) 5-6' pine trees on our own so he can go ahead and plant. Penny is one of the head honchos here and knows a thing or two about plants and trees especially when I asked about certain types of plants that would deter bees- since I was stung the summer of '22 and left me traumatized. The service is personable AND they offer Veteran discounts. They're pricy for sure- but if you're willing to pay the price to add a stunning look to your garden, a visit here is essential.

Since then, I've had that design in my back pocket so that I can recreate that same professional-looking piece (or closed to it) myself for our new home. Now that I have a foyer, I want to showcase our entrance by adding a major centerpiece. I couldn't find those same winter florals at other flower shops- so in comes Colonial Flower S. at the New Paltz Plaza in New Paltz who met me all the way while thinking outside the box. Whether it's cheery+frilly or minimalist, Colonial says it all with flowers and greenery. At the main entrance, you'll find those glass refrigerated coolers; then the shop's backroom is bursting with blooms as the folks work and create arrangements on long table. I'd shown Melissa the arrangement snapshot of what was created for me and although Colonial didn't carry those specific stems I wanted, she IMMEDIATELY thought of plan B and made things so much easier! Price was right and Melissa's fast-thinking, creative skills were on point the entire time. Thank you so much!
