My bedroom window, which was actually just an entire glass bedroom wall was RIGHT next to the side walk where anyone can just walk by. It's on the second floor, yes but just imagine that while you're sleeping you can literally just SEE a person walk by in a floor to ceiling glass window. It's unsettling and in my opinion just doesn't feel safe at all. Honestly, there is no key required except after certain hours in the night in order to walk up to that window. A stalker could just stand there and stare. And what's to stop them? The only thing separating you from the outside is some blinds that refuse to close all the way. Not to mention that flourescent lights that are hanging right outside bathing the bedroom in perma-daylight. Also, it's just not cozy. It felt like you were actually living in converted office space. It's not a hotel so there's no room service, no laundry service, no extra blankets or pillows. The phone doesn't even work unless you prepay it. You can't even call reception without paying for it. None of the comforts that you would want on a trip. And not only that, but it is in NO WAY cheaper than a hotel. It was actually probably the equivalent price of a luxury hotel. I would never ever stay here again and I would dissuade anyone else from trying it out either.

Rooms are very big : there is a section for the bedroom and bathroom and another one for the living room and kitchen with sofa, TV, micro-waves, hot plate and fridge. This is very modern and beautiful. The apartments are located just 10 minutes on foot to Tower Bridge and you can easily access to all the interest centers of London with bus, underground, cab... For the breakfast, it's up to you to choose, you can buy some stuffs and have breakfast in your room or you can go to a coffee shop, just next to the apartment : Garrison, very copious and good meal. Once we arrived in our room, we were very pleased to see how clean the space is and it is very chic! It reminds me of a cute bachelor pad! The aparthotel space was enough for three people. It came with a bedroom, bathroom, living room with a pull out bed and a small kitchen area that is fully equipped with utensils and refrigerator. If we wanted to, we could have cooked. This hotel has a nearby walkable grocery market which was convenient. Also, I recommend eating at the Indian restaurant within the hotel, it is called Takaa Tak. We had an amazing dinner. Worth to check out. Overall, I highly recommend staying at this hotel!

Use this rail to get to Paddington and central London. I stayed here with a friend on the last week of May 2019. ROOM: Pretty compact. The photos make it look bigger, but it's fine for two people. However on our first night we found half a pizza in the fridge. Towels had stains on them and there were blonde hair strands on the bathroom floor and shower walls. The glasses had hard water residue at the bottoms and some knives hadn't been washed. INSPECT YOUR ROOM BEFORE UNPACKING. We had just arrived from a 11hr flight and were too tired to repack. We were reimbursed however. SERVICE: I have to give them credit for their customer service. They always took care of us in person and over the phone if we needed anything. Also you can check in early if you book direct at no charge. The hotel itself has a youthful vibe and fun details. I'd given it 3 stars because they could really improve on cleanliness. But convenience of location and good service was definitely worth another.

There was plenty of closet space, storage space, and the beautiful balcony views were my fav. Housekeeping came by once a week and they were just okay. I still felt the need to have my own cleaning supplies for when things were missed but they were always friendly and respectful. I felt very safe living here, walking around the area and the one time I noticed a domestic disturbance in front of the hotel, the staff checked it out immediately. While there weren't too many other Americans in the building, I made many other great friends of Canadian, Swiss, and English origins. No, they aren't going to make them for you, but its there if you want it. And being a bit older (27 at the time), I still felt comfortable even though many students were undergrads. Excellently appointed rooms-- great showers/bathrooms, well-built furniture, under floor heating. Great, personable staff (tip: be nice to them and they will repay the favor). Fabulous location. Free bikes and bike storage. Laundry always worked and was a reasonable price. SUPER fast internet at all times. When things broke, I actively and promptly saw people trying to fix them. My only con: Sure, some of the other residents were rich, spoiled, douche-bags who have millions of servants at their home and don't know how to bathe themselves or put their garbage in the bin properly. But really, that's my only complaint. And I found cool people to make up for them, so whatever.

There a few things in particular that are worth highlighting: 1) Cosmopolitan Community. From day one the social scene at Urbanest was fantastic, and I made some wonderful friends who I hope will be for life (including my now husband!). Moving to London can be a bit daunting, but the house parties and activities organised by the building made it really easy to integrate. It was great making friends with people from so many different backgrounds. 4 years on I still count some of the people I met at Urbanest as my nearest and dearest. When we get together we still reminisce about our time at Urbanest! We had some serious laughs. 2) The Staff. I cannot praise the staff at Urbanest enough. They are professional but also highly approachable. If ever I had a problem with the flat or some kind of issue they would always fix it. Furthermore, they're just really nice people and actually care about the residents' pastoral needs as well. I remember quite a few times when I'd had a really bad day I'd stop at chat with whoever was on reception and they would really take an interest in what was going on in my life. They're also flexible - I've heard some horror stories from other friends living in private residences where the building seems to be run like a prison! This is certainly not the case at Urbanest. 3) Location and Building. I don't think I need to say much about the building - it's as fab as it looks on the website. True, the rooms are not huge, but the shelving and cupboards are done quite cleverly so you actually have quite a lot of space to put stuff. And I have a LOT of stuff and I happily managed for 2 years! Plus I would really recommend making use of the communal spaces (especially the study room where you'll nearly always find someone else for moral support... particularly if you're pulling a dreaded all nighter..). As for location, well Shoreditch and the surrounding areas are fantastic for students! There are great bars, cheapish places to eat etc. And I always felt safe walking home at night even by myself, which as a girl living in London was really important to me! Small as well, no bathtub, but a heated towel rack. - Room cons: - It was a bit difficult to have our luggage out and about. - I believe every room has a washer/dryer (1 unit for wash and dry), but the dryer was not good. No laundry detergent or dishwasher liquid is available. You have to get your own. - There is a charge for extra towels and linens. Like, not a refundable deposit. A charge. - They only wash/replace towels and linens if you stay for more than a week. Concierge: pretty much everyone at the desk was great. Answered questions, helped with calling places, weighed our bags, kept our luggage in storage, etc. - Service con: the only thing I'd warn about is that sometimes the information is not exactly accurate. Yes, we can get laundry detergent? No, we can't. No, they can't fix the beds coming apart (two small beds put side by side) in the room? Yes, they can. No, the letting office won't be open soon? Yes, it was. Location: we discovered that the 360 bus line was great. I have read responses to negative reviews this hotel has received, and they consistently blame the customer for not realizing they are reserving a "pod," and not a hotel room or apartment. If you look over their websites--both for apartments and for the pods, they *both* show rather charming and spacious apartments. There is NO indication anywhere that you are booking a tiny space with no window. My booking company tried to make it right with me, but only after having a lot of difficulties communicating with the people at Nell Gwynn. Indeed they have very inconvenient office hours (they didn't even show up to their posted Saturday hours), and it is very difficult to meet with someone face-to-face to discuss the issues with the room. At best, this is lack of transparency and unclear websites. At worst, this is deliberate bait-and-switch, with little options for guests to get help. In addition to the above, the downstairs area with the "pods" had grimy carpets, grimy walls, my air conditioner occasionally blew out large flakes of something black, and there is not housekeeping if you are staying for less than a week. The neighborhood is gorgeous, the lobby is gorgeous, but it seems like a crapshoot whether you will get the kind of accommodation you think you are booking. It's concerning. I've lived in these Halls for about seven months now and it's been quite an experience. When I first arrived it was very fun, I got to meet all my flat mates right off the bat who are all quite lovely and a lot of the people around me as well so it started out quite fun. We would have nights out in London, exploring the night life together and just enjoying getting to know another side of the world. The only thing that really is quite the annoyance is the thin walls and the loudness that comes with living with people of all different ages and maturity levels. Sure, it's college/Uni, it's the time to party, rage it up, go out and drink, but when you have class at 9 the next morning and there is a party next door, it's not the best place to be. However, in terms of security they have a great system, a code that enables you to get into the gates and it's an easy walk to the tube or the bus when you need to go to Uni. It comes with a fridge and a microwave, stove, oven, sink and bins, but that's all you get, all the rest you have to supply yourself which is typical for halls. The staff is both really nice and helpful when it comes to moving in and getting around to places. They also have a laundry room with about 6 washers and 6 dryers and it only takes an hour to do both. The internet is consistently good and you get your own room as well which is lovely. The only reason why I give it 3 stars is due to the thinness of walls, the tight nit spaces and that there isn't a common room to hang in besides the kitchen. Other than that though, it's worth the rent and it's a place to live that's close to what you need.

I am really happy to have chosen Clarendale for a summer stay and would definitely come again.
