Very very disappointing to say the least. Cheap quality sushi at high end prices. We usually go to Gozen, Yua or Toro in dwtn Victoria but decided to stop here for a quick bite since I had to grab groceries..... Stopped in @11:40am and I wish I hadn't... I ordered the Tempura Udon Soup and a Dynamite Roll... Tempura prawn(a) tasted old, chewy and almost like it was leftover from the day before. I had to ask for wasabi, napkins and water after my meal came, so that alone should tell you about the lack of service I was getting. Udon soup was a joke, the broth was disgusting and flavourless, the soup has 2 pieces of tiny fish cakes broccoli and 2 pieces of mini carrots and that was it... :( I didn't finish either items that I ordered and I can say this - there is no way I will be coming back.... For $30 it wasn't even close to being worth it. I'll happily spend $30 at Gozen or Yua Sushi and have yet to have a bad meal or service. Also for $30 you get a huge, fresh and delicious meal, not at Victoria Sushi, the food was garbage - sorry to be blunt. read more

We fell in love with this restaurant years ago, when they first opened. The tempura is spot on and the special rolls and nigiri are wonderful. My husband and daughter love the monkey brains. The service is fast and pleasant. The only complaint is when we order through SKIP, they package meals together although they are for separate people. This can be confusing as some of the orders look very similar. It would be nice to have them packaged separately and marked as to what they are. read more

I am not sure what the fuss is all about this place . It's decently priced Japanese food. Service is pleasant but slow...you'll likely have to waive them down for your bill and ask for to go containers for any left overs you may have (you do it yourself). Kudos for their effort on presentation of their dishes and cleanliness of their restaurant. My favourite dish is the "monkey brain" which is a tempura battered whole avocado with pieces of spicy tuna, crab and sesame inside, sprinkled with crispy yam bits on top). Their sushi pizza was interesting (it's basically crispy rice in the shape of a pizza and they added sushi toppings). They smothered too much sauce on the bottom of the dish so the "pizza" became too soggy. The spider roll looks cool but in terms of taste the best part was the soft crab. I am not a fan of rolls that have too much of that artificial crab meat, the kind you find in a basic California roll. We ordered the dinner special which included a green salad, sunomono salad, dynamite roll, some sashimi, miso soup, and a sizzling hot plate of beef teriyaki on a bed of veggies. It was above average. If you're craving for basic Japanese food and don't want to spend a lot of money, this place fits the bill. I'm not sure what all the fuss is with this place. Afte reading all the positive reviews, I expected to be impressed with the food but left the restaurant disappointed and underwhelmed. I specifically chose this place to eat while visiting Victoria for a couple days with my fiance. We came here after visiting Buchart Gardens (must see!). The service was not friendly and barely existent. We came here around 2pm so the lunch rush was over but there was a table or two still occupied in the restaurant. We ordered a bento box and a caterpiller roll to share. The caterpiller roll had too much of wasabi taste which totally took over the entire roll - I couldn't even eat it all. The bento box came with a lacklustre salad, slice of orange, some sashimi, purple rice, california rolls and a few pieces of tempura. My favourite part of the whole box? The tempura. Perhaps if we tried other rolls we might've been impressed but the selection we chose was disappointing. read more

I've been here twice since I've discovered it! The food is amazing. I had seen a review that is was expensive but, compared to Ebizo I found it much cheap and better quality. The rolls are huge, they got everything from the basics to amazing creations. I think the most expensive roll on their menu is about $17.90 but, it's actually a full roll with in a full roll stuffed with fish. The inside is really nice, it's hard to believe it was once a Blockbuster. Service is great and everyone is super friendly. This is for sure my top sushi place, worth skipping downtown. read more

I went with my friend on a quiet afternoon after lunch service. We ate a few dishes. We didn't get napkins or side plates until halfway through the service. I was eating deep fried chicken with chopsticks and all the fried bits were all over the table. Our glasses of water were extremely small and they neglected to refill the water. The spicy tuna roll was really terrible. It was drenched in Saracha sauce and tasted kind of cheap. I was expecting either a spicy gochujung sauce or a Japanese kind of sauce. I think there are many Japanese sushi restaurants in the city that make better sushi and provide better table service. If you eat a lot of sushi, you will realize this place is just okay. I think it's still good to get a simple sushi lunch special though. read more

My new favorite place! My buddy took me there last month and I've been back 5 times since. I suggest the sushi pizza here- a far cry from other sushi pizza in the city but so so SO much better. It's clean and quick and the food is always on point. I find I'm very picky about rice in sushi and this has always been perfect. Lunch specials are a great deal as well! Try this place! We were visiting Victoria for a few days. First day we arrived we decided to have a sushi picnic atop Mount Douglas. Victoria Sushi was near our hotel so we ordered takeout and drove to the park. Once we got to the summit, the view was amazing. Wow! We enjoyed a bottle of nicely chilled rose wine. But the sushi was disappointing. The nigiri was bland, oddly stale tasting. The salmon, for example, rather than melt in your mouth as it should, was tough and tasteless. The Esquimalt Roll was better, but also stale tasting. None of the sushi tasted fresh, even the rice somehow tasted stale. We still enjoyed our picnic but the food was only so-so. Maybe eating in is better? My wife thinks 3/5 is generous... read more

But the food was amazing some of the best most buttery sashimi I've ever had and the unagi roll I had was also one of the best ever. One of my favourite sushi places in Victoria! Service is sometimes slow but the quality of the food is worth the wait! I suggest trying the "monkey brains". Totally fabulous and a favourite of my 10 year old granddaughter! Their lunch specials are a great bargain, at $9.95 to about $12.95, and include soup, salad, edamame, tempura, California roll, and your choice of another sushi/maki or other roll from the menu. First time trying this place, and I was not impressed. I ordered a sashimi lunchbox, and you could tell that a lot of the things on it I've been prepared a long time ago, judging by the dryness several items on my plate. The sushi chef was also burning plastic with a torch where I was sitting at the counter, which doesn't seem too healthy for the food preparation or the customers. This sashimi portions were tiny compared to most of the other Japanese restaurant in town. On the flipside the restaurant itself looks nice, but I prefer an ugly restaurant with amazing food over fancy with crappy food. read more

I thought the food and ambience of this restaurant were great. I got a spicy tuna roll and the caterpillar roll and both were excellent. The spicy tuna is real spice and not just mayonnaise which made me very happy. My boyfriend got the yokisoba which came out in an iron skillet shaped like a bull, very fun. Let me start by saying this restaurant is lower than 1 star. The customer service was terrible and the food was mediocre. We were rushed to order (i.e. asking us to place our order in 2 minutes), the server was rude, they ran out of glasses (even though we pre-reserved for a group of 18) and we had to raise our hands to count who wanted water, the server dropped our food (and gave a 99 cent discount). This is extremely unacceptable service and will not be returning. read more

Nice menu with a lot of options, the food is pretty tasty however the prices are a little much for what you get. Victoria sushi is great. Always went to Ibizo (which is great too) but living in Vic West, it is so cool that there is a good quality sushi place in our neighbourhood. Good service. Good food. The sushi pizza is fun and yum. I am a bit flabbergasted by the positive reviews here- I will never be back to this place. The service is terrible and the sushi is not great at all. I am allergic to eggs and asked for the rainbow roll without mayo mixed into the crab. I was told this wasn't possible because the california rolls (and their variations) were pre made. (The 3 guys standing behind the sushi bar are just for show?). I pressed the issue, and was told that I could have the roll made with real crab (as opposed to imitation mixed with mayo) for an extra $3. Fine. I ordered that. We also ordered a few other things, and 2 miso soups. Well, we ordered the miso soup three times from 2 different servers. Never did get it. The majority of what we ordered was...ok. I would compare it to mall sushi at best. But the specially ordered rainbow roll was inedible. It was so gross I choked down one piece and left the rest. The waitress cleared it away without a word of inquiry why I didn't eat the dish I ordered (and paid $3 extra to have made fresh). When we got the bill (generally everything was extremely overpriced) the miso soups were still on it, despite us never getting them. I informed the waitress who took the bill away and corrected it, but didn't apologize for the fact that we a) didn't actually ever get our thrice-ordered soup and b) we were charged for something we didn't receive. Terrible and embarrassing that I took an out of town guest here. They are super close to my house and I'm so disappointed, because there isn't other sushi nearby. But NEVER again. The only 0% tip I have ever given in my entire life, and I hope it's the last. read more

Was looking forward to trying this new sushi restaurant, as it's in the neighbourhood. I'll give them points for portion size, and they definitely take the wasabi to the next level. However, the massive number of fruit flies will keep me from returning, not to mention how much the staff pushed us to leave. They close at 9:00... at 9:01, they were shoving us out the door. Their menu seems quite limited as well... I'd definitely recommend Koto instead. Way better hours, service, variety, and price... and no fruit flies. The price of the real crab roll is the same for the real crab roll at Nagana sushi in Coquitlam, except their roll has 3 times the amount of crab as victoria sushi. the pressed rolls are good. the service is good but sometimes so busy its painfully slow. As well, they REALLY need to clean their deep fryers a lot more often as they stink all over your clothes and outside the restaurant. Unattractive. read more
