I normally don't give out 5 stars ... so a 4 star review is actually great. This place is one of those hidden gems. Their sashimis are fresh and their lobster roll is out of this world. Because of covid there is no eat-in, just take out. To get a 5 star review, they will need to make the batter for the tempura lighter. Would definitely order again from this place.

Not sure if it's fair to give a three star to a restaurant that is working under restrictions due to Covid. The grab and go sushi was dried out and the Sunomono Cucumber salad pricey for a plane if reasonably tasty item. I just don't think enough product is moving through this location anymore. It's been fantastic in the past. The host is friendly and service great. Take out alcohol is available. Given what I paid and received, there just too many better options available right now.

I've been dying for a new sushi spot since I've moved here over a year ago nothing else really hit the spot until today.. I think I've found my new favourite sushi place in the city.. I was welcomed by a lovely server given a table and menus. She was fantastic and super helpful and so energetic, it really added to my experience at the restaurant. The restaurant was small but very kozy and beautifully decorated.. The menu offered a wide array of options. My plate came out quick and beautiful plated I couldn't help but snap a quick photo before devouring the amazing meal.. Leaving nothing behind but a few crumbs. The prices were super reasonable and easily affordable to make it my new weekly sushi spot. It was a wonderful experience and I'll be back with friends in tow to try this place out.

good sushi but why does it take 40 minutes to make a dynamite roll. I'm sitting here and it still says they are making my roll

We also tried the kamikaze roll, which had salmon, prawns, and crab meat, and it was so flavourful.

They have a few tables and only one was occupied when I arrived and only a couple people got takeout while I was there. It's not a place you come to for the ambiance. However, the sushi rolls were excellent. My wife had numerous questions which were answered promptly and knowledgably. Our salads (Seaweed and Green) were both excellent. The green salad had a few different types of lettuce, baby spinach, cucumber, avacado, and a very tasty dressing. I was impressed because it wasn't the typical "sushi place" salad I'm used to. The spicy tuna roll was certainly spicy and fresh. The Rock & Roll was amazing. The seared, chopped scallops on top were a great addition to the cucumber, avocado, crab meat, and sauce. The Washington Roll was a little similar with cucumber, avocado, and crabmeat inside, but the fresh salmon on top was delicious. The Awesome Roll again was similar with the cucumber, avocado, and crabmeat inside, but cooked salmon on top, with crispy yam strands on top of that. Excellent presentation and taste. I was a little concerned about trying the place because it had five stars, but not many reviews, and none recent. I'm happy I tried it and recommend it to the locals and visitors as well. (I was visiting Victoria from the US.)

Because of the music, conversation was nigh on to impossible. No restuarant needs loud music such as was being played at Marilena. Some VERY gentle background music might be OK, but remember why people dine out: to enjoy each other's company, not your choice of music.

Our bartender Cole was fantastic, so incredibly friendly and always checking in on us even with the busy load at the bar. Our waitress on a separate occasion, I believe her name was Frances, also incredibly kind and amiable. The rainbow roll, marilena roll, and dynamite roll were delicious, the quality of the fish was incredible. The prawns to split amongst the table were my favorite part of the night, accompanied by a savory beige white sauce (can't remember if it was tahini or hummus) that complimented the marinated prawns wonderfully. The spring salmon was super buttery and flavorful in its respective soy emulsion. The chocolate molten lava cake with the cherry ice cream however was insane!!! Both desserts managed to be airy in nature, the cherry packing a wonderfully tart flavor without tasting artificial. If you're a fan of dark chocolate, you will most definitely enjoy this cake. A must visit for a special occasion in the Victoria area.
