Our son began his taekwondo journey a couple of months before his fifth birthday. He was very shy around people he didn't know and afraid to try new things. And he was very stubborn, especially when asked to do something he didn't want to do. When we arrived for his first Tiny Tiger class, he clung to my leg and begged to go home. It was a new experience for him and he spent the entire class sitting at the back of the room crying. But week after week we kept coming, and eventually he really started to enjoy it. Even when he was in a cast after breaking his arm, he insisted we come to class. He also became more confident and started playing with kids he just met. And slowly but surely his technique started to improve, too. When he was invited to join the leadership program, he learned how to speak in front of a group, and introduce himself to someone with a firm handshake. And lo and behold my once shy little boy started to enjoy speaking in front of others and helping in class. Now he's a third degree black belt. Victory has not only taught him martial arts and how to defend himself against bullies, but also life skills like respect, humility, and self esteem. We're going on our third year being part of Victory family. So that alone says a lot right there we love it there's no place like it where we feel more comfortable and more at home. My son has Autism and from the beginning I was a worried momma bear. That he wouldn't be able to keep up or big enough or strong enough because he was small for his age with low muscle tone. I was worried that would count against him. I couldn't have been more wrong!! It was completely the opposite he fits right in he's a leader he goes above and beyond with the support of the instructors and the director and all the other families there. We love going there we love all the events that they have for families to get together it is one of our most favorite activities to do weekly together. My son started out as a white belt TINY TIGER he's now going to test for his purple belt decided next month!! I couldn't be more proud of him and all of his accomplishments. Our family loves everything about Victory martial arts in Mesa, Az! We had previously tried another school and after the initial class decided to wait a little longer to put my then 4 year old in martial arts. When we met Mr. DeSmith at a school festival he was so welcoming and my apprehensive son loved the experience of "breaking his first board." he seemed excited and wanted to try. Like most new things to my son, once we got there, he wanted to leave. He was super nervous and very apprehensive to even go in. The whole team went out of their way to make him feel not only comfortable, but get him excited in attending classes there! They have the kids recite a mantra every class something along the lines of .... make good choices with knowledge in my mind and honesty in my heart, choose good friends, ect. I LOVE this school and tear up often watching my son and how much he is growing and enjoying his time there. I love Victory Martial Arts! I am actually surprised their rating isn't higher. I scrolled down and saw 41 "not recommended" 5 star reviews. The team here is great! They care about you and treat you like family. They teach great classes that reinforce discipline and confidence as well as martial arts, self defense and fitness. I love that I see kids training, teens and adults, in their own particular classes, but also family classes altogether. The culture and community here is truly addicting. When you enroll, they are up front about membership options. There are contracts, but there are also month to month options, you decide which option you are comfortable with, and the price varies from there, becoming more affordable if you're willing to commit a little bit, which I feel is totally fair. They offer martial arts classes once a week up to unlimited classes, and have classes for three year olds all the way to adults! They even offer Krav Maga classes for adults. We were invited several times before we finally took our eight year old son to be a part of class. He immediately loved working with the staff and getting to take class with a large group of other kids. Even when he was hesitant, Mr. DeSmith took the time with my son to encourage him personally in his one on one. We decided to become members the same day as our meeting with Mr. DeSmith because we immediately saw the value in what Taekwondo teaches and that the staff at Victory was top notch. As a parent, I even have the opportunity to participate Krav Maga self defense classes, kickboxing classes, and the Showtime Program. The classes were included in our costs when we became VIP members. We have recommended the school to many of our friends who have been searching for a similar experience for their children. I have watched Victory come into our school for the last 2 years. I was impressed by the instructors however, never took time to take my son to a class. Then he had a birthday party there. He was really hooked. He has been attending for almost 5 months and I have see a huge improvement in his respect, listening, and he has something that he is passionate about. His instructors see his potential and are helping us as parents to develop it. Yes, he is learning to defend himself, but the life skills he is learning is far more important. After four months of watching, I decided to get off the sidelines and start getting my exercise and stop trying to make it to the gym as a busy mom and working woman. Victory Martial Arts Mesa is absolutely fantastic. The staff at Victory is family. They go above and beyond, they are kind-hearted, loving and encouraging. As a family we are on a journey to becoming black belt leaders TOGETHER! We lift one another up when we fall, and we celebrate our victories. I love the curriculum and life skills taught. I have taken almost every class and I love them all! My youngest son was diagnosed with PTSD and connecting was a challenge for him. Victory has provided him a safe outlet to channel some of those overwhelming feelings. Today my son is confident and has very few outbursts. We started with Victory in Jan 2022. My 4 boys did not want to try TaeKwonDo but I had them try it and they haven't looked back or asked to quit. My oldest earned his black belt Dec 2024 and the other three are on a path to earn theirs as well. They are all determined and accept the challenge. They know that the path will not be easy and it's great to see their hard work and positive attitudes. They absolutely love going to classes. They feel good about themselves and I continue to see growth in them. It's also a safe place to make mistakes and fail. The instructors, parents and students are supportive of eachother. I love taking karate! At first I was a little scared and only my brothers would be able to do it, but I'm even better than them now! I've been taking classes a couple months and I can't wait to keep advancing in belt rank! I love the instructors, Mr Desmith, Mr Adams, Mr Janis! And Mrs Desmith had helped me a lot with my sparing! I've sparred, broken boards, advanced in my belt rank, and made a lot of new friends! I even worked out with Mr Chat, a famous actor/karate instructor who is Mr Desmith's good friend. Such an amazing places! We just recently joined the victory family and we couldn't be any more thankful the staff are amazing with the kids, very patient and very dedicated and lovable. We have been in the program for about a month and it's only getting better. Our son wasn't to crazy about it at first because he's shy but enrolling him into this program has changed him, he's more outgoing, social, & more confidence about what he's doing. When our kids go to karate class, they learn a bunch of cool moves, yes. But there is so much more. Each cycle brings a new life skill. This cycle is honesty. As parents we hope to teach our kids to be honest. But we're parents. Our words only go so far. In class, they learn what makes up that life skill. Victory Martial Arts has been amazing for my son. He is only able to go every other week and Mr DeSmith has been fantastic working with him so that he can progress. They promote leadership and although they smile a lot (especially Mr Janis), they are still firm and set clear expectations with the students. They know all of the students by name and geniunley care about them. I love that they encourage the students and also have the students encourage eachother. This school is amazing! I have been bringing my daughter here for over a year and it has been rewarding for her. We love seeing how much her confidence has grown since starting and she has become more disciplined in her thinking and behavior. They implement solid teachings with their physical trainings. Love the atmosphere! It makes my 6 year old want to be a leader. Here they really are so patient & understanding. The classes are big, but everyone is in tune! There are ALWAYS enough instructors to give the children direction. They even encourage the parents to CHEER and CLAP for the kids! It is such a healthy environment of inclusion and success. We enrolled at Victory because we needed an outlet with being new to homeschooling this past year. My kids (9 and 4) love it so much! They ask to go daily!
