This was my second visit and I feel guilty for betraying the more traditional restaurants in China Town. But the benus and pohs at Viet Food are just so much more appealing than the MSG-sodden eat-all-you-like buffets and better value than the a la carte outlets. This end of Wardour Street seems to attract a fair number of new Asian restaurants and Viet Food seems by far the best, hence the return visit. I think I even ordered the same as the chicken curry just looks far too tempting on the picture card to resist. Based on the food alone I would give a four if not five star rating. Unfortunately, this was let down by the service. I asked for tap water with my meal (this really shouldn't be an issue in London anymore) and was reminded that minimum credit cards payments are £10. I confirmed that I would be paying cash but had to remind the waiter a couple of times before my water arrived. Found this place after a walk through Piccadilly Circus and then Chinatown. We got there a little after 5pm and there was already a little bit of a wait. We waited for perhaps 10-15 minutes, and not before being asked to limit our stay to 75 minutes, which was fine. Hubs and I shared a crispy spring roll appetizer and them both had the Pho Tai (rare beef). The spring rolls were battered in a batter I'm not sure I've ever had before, and it was really, really tasty. The pho was good too, perhaps a bit on the small side for my American eyes. I just had to add a little bit of fish sauce and I was all set. If we're in the neighborhood again, I'd definitely want to come back here. They did a really nice job. read more

I have to say that the food here is average and I'm not sure I would class it as authentic Vietnamese food. The spicy beef soup had an odd flavour which wasn't unpleasant but it wasn't how spicy beef noodles taste in authentic Vietnamese restaurants along kingsland road. The trailblazer for this up-scale style of Vietnamese food, House of Ho in Soho has just shut despite the backing of a celebrity chef This site used to house a basic Vietnamese restaurant but has just had a makeover. Among the new decorations are cookbooks including one from Slanted Door, a restaurant in San Francisco which this place must be trying to emulate - it's high-end Vietnamese with endless throngs dying to eat there but with eye-watering prices The menu here is lovely. A mixture of street food noodles, specials and tapas style dishes. Its desire to be higher end means four things - smaller portions, beautifully presented food, higher prices but more precise flavours on the palate The pho was lovely. Big, wholesome and hearty. The spring rolls had a very interesting crispy skin. Very enjoyable I got stung by the non alcoholic cocktail though. Nestled in the heart of a very busy Chinatown, this London based Vietnamese restaurant is a casual affair with some excellent eats on their menu. I came here with Neil C. and family for a quick bite to eat before some Birthday drinks in London and we we're not disappointed. The menu is vast and will suit almost everyone. As a starter I had soft shell crab - which was definitely a stand out dish and was the centre of all food envy on the table! My main course was a dish which comprised of vermicelli noodles and steak. It didn't quite live up to the glory of the crab starter, but was still good nonetheless. Went to Chinatown to find some dinner and decided to try this vietnamese restaurant since I was missing Vancouver and wanted some pho. Pho here does not have msg which is good but the beefy pho aroma/flavour was a bit of a miss. The pho soup was on the bland side. The portions were not as large as back home (you will still be full) and definitely costs more (£8.80 compared to avg $9.00cad). The beef in the pho actually tasted better than the ones I've had at home in that the beef tasted like thinely sliced, soft tenderloin steak. There wasnt much condiments on the table either such as chili sauce, hoisin sauce, and siracha. It did come with fish sauce however. The ambiance is nice and the restaurant was clean. Service was good and waiter was attentive. Overall I had a good experience. read more

This is posh street food but quite pricey. I really do not understand why when you have a bowl of pho that after a few mouthfuls, you are fishing in the soup for the pho and the meat, because there is not enough thus leaving you wanting and the dish not good value. It is very tasty, but not enough. Take a leaf out of Cafe East, it feels bottomless and really filling. The summer roll is beautifully displayed but the sauce is just not right, they used the same sauce as for crispy duck and added the peanuts and chili, which just does not cut it for me, as it is too savoury. It should be the sweet and sourness of the plum sauce with peanuts and chili. That would be the perfect dip for the summer roll. The dish they do well is the pomelo salad with prawns. This is a dish with many flavours and textures. The citrus juice of the plump pomelo and the plump prawns goes well with the sweetness of the fish sauce and the crispy fried shallots provides the crunchy texture combined with the coolness of the salad of vegetables is such a delicious and delightful dish. They really have got this right. Get a seat facing the window, and you can watch the world go by, which adds to the atmosphere of eating street food. read more

Slight criticism is that the soup could have been hotter. (The rare beef taste better than warbled beef btw). Had crispy summer rolls that tasted really good with sauce, so I'm a pretty happy bunny. The portion was the fried spring roll felt a bit on the small side though, 3 small rolls on a plate. The rice summer rolls we got would have tasted bland but with the hoi sin sauce it was not too bad. Everything kept falling out though as the roll was quite big. Recently Dozo opened it's new sister restaurant Viet Food, specialising in Vietnamese cuisine. The restaurant is based on the south side of Wardour street, next to the gates of Chinatown. I was quite excited to have lunch there as I really like Vietnamese dishes. I went for lunch with my friend Melissa Foodie . The place was busy, so we only managed to get a table on the ground floor next to the entrance with a view of the kitchen. To start our meal, my friend ordered a tea. Unfortunately because of the trendy use of enamel glasses to serve tea in this restaurant she didn't manage to drink it until the end of her meal as it was too hot to touch. We shared two starters : the coconut calamari with sweet chili and the Vietnamese spring rolls. Both starters were good and crispy. I didn't really taste coconut while eating the deep fried calamari but they tasted lighter than the classic ones. The sweet chili sauce was quite tasty, it came in a small tube which gave a modern touch to the dish. Regarding the spring rolls they were pretty small andI only had a tiny bite however my friend seemed to enjoy them. She switched the classic nuoc cham sauce for the spicy red sauce available on our table. As a main dish my friend ordered the Pho Chin which was a slow cooked marbled beef in soup. To quote my friend, she thought her pho was literally a bowl of hot water and tasteless noodles. It was the worst pho she had for a long time. I tried a spoon of her pho and it's true that it could have been a bit more flavourful. It was nothing compare to the pho I tried at Ngon Ngon. My dish was a bun tom nurong, a massive plate of plain noodles with coriander, mint, cucumber and chargrilled fresh tiger prawns. It came with some nuoc cham sauce to pore over the plate. It was alright but there was nothing really special about it. Again it needed a bit of flavour to be better. Overall I don't think I will go back to Viet Food and so does my friend, as apart from the starters, the dishes were flavourless. I would rather commute to get a proper good and tasty Vietnamese meal in Clerkenwell (Ngon Ngon or Banh Mi Bay) or in Shoreditch (Mien Tay). read more

Rather disappointed after reading so many good reviews. Food was overall okay, but nothing astounding. My pho felt authentic enough, but had an odd anchovy aftertaste, which I did not like. They also didn't have sriracha sauce -- an essential when it comes to Vietnamese food for me. Our starters were once again, average at best. Ambience was okay -- cool and hip. A combination of Vietnamese hole-in-the-wall meets hipster bar-esque place. Service was overall good, with the staff being generally prompt. No major concern nor praise. Nestled in the heart of Chinatown, London, Viet Food is in the ideal location. Only a quick five minute walk can take you to the epicenter of theatre and broadway in London. This restaurant however, is off the beaten path. A family owned business, the food totally reflects that. The recipes there are passed down through generations. Very rude servers! I was seated on a table with other people despite there being plenty of empty tables. When I asked to sit alone the server very rudely informed me that he will not do it. The food here was super tasty at a reasonable price. We had the spicy beef soup and a Bun dish. They were both exceptional. My one complaint is that we ordered one lemongrass tea, and the lady taking our order said the pot was so small it wasn't good for sharing. So we ended up ordering two, which was too much. We're not sure why she told us to get two when one was a perfect size to share between two people. The atmosphere is really modern and cute, but the space is really tiny. We got lucky in that when we walked in there was a table for two available. But, since we sat by the door, we could see others having to wait outside for an open seat. It was cold night, great for pho and some other spicy food. I decided to go to this place because they smell really good, I had to line up to be seated. Not too long tho max was like 15-20 minutes. I ordered grilled scallop and prawns, was really good, small portions though. I also ordered spicy pho soup, I forgot the exact name but it was supposed to be spicy soup with beef. It was good but less flavorful, the portion was good enough and was fulfilling for me. Had a wonderful meal here with my family Christmas weekend! In a lively area of Chinatown, the interior decor is also modern and upscale, but the food is very reasonably priced. We ordered every veggie dish + both soups -- the flavors are authentic and not overpowering. Balanced, savory, and delicious (no msg!). We walked down Soho and landed in Chinatown where we saw Viet Food and decided by the food we saw in the window it was worth going. Judging by the food, we weren't wrong but the service was another issue altogether. We walked in and were told by two members staff to wait "2 minutes" for our table. They acted as though we weren't doing this although I have to say we were seated promptly. We ordered quickly, having the spring rolls and chicken wings for starters, beef and pork bun for our mains. My friend ordered a beer while I had the coconut slap. The waitress initially had no problem serving us but after walking away she came back and abruptly told my friend "you look young" followed by another just as abrupt "how old are you?". this approach could have been a lot more digestible if she'd asked politely to begin with for an ID. As she walked away she turned her head and gave a pretty nasty look in our direction. The starters arrived and were both lovely, as were the mains but unfortunately this won't be the focus of my review. As we finished our meal we saw the £4.30 service charge on the bill and neither of us were prepared to pay it so we paid separately for our food -the service. Upon noticing this the waiter (maybe manager?) got riled up and confrontational demanding someone either pay or we give a valid reason as to why neither of us were. This discourse went on for maybe 5 minutes before he landed on "You have to tell us as you come in that you're not going to pay service" which seems pretty unreasonable to me. Overall a pretty negative experience. If they sort out their waiting style there could be redemption. read more

After being told it was a 40min wait for a table for 2 on a Sunday eve round the corner in Chinatown, we stumbled across this place. My beau and I were craving some kind of Asian food (our mutual love of it being one of the things we bonded over!) and this place had a table ready right away. Albeit a communal square table, which we quite happily shared with a cute old Indian couple who I think were trying to suss out if we were married, and 4 French girls who seemed to be enjoying themselves. The upstairs décor is beautiful - the shutters had a very authentic feel and I loved the light features they'd made out of bird cages over the staircase. I enjoyed my bun with 'chargrilled three of pork' which I think meant pork cooked 3 ways! I wasn't sure about the 3rd way but the other 2 and the noodles and fresh veggies were very tasty, though the flavour of the sauce got a bit too strong for me towards the end. Sadly my guy's pho with marbled beef didn't appear until I'd practically finished eating, but was very speedily devoured! We appreciated the beer selection too with a Hanoi and a Saigon between us. The staff were friendly and efficient, and suitably apologetic about the delayed food once they noticed us looking around expectantly. It's at the pricier end for this type of food and I think I still prefer old fave CoBa up by King's Cross. My guy and I are also quite happy eating street food on the street, but I'd return if I was with peeps that like their street food in poshed-up surroundings, as this is a lovely setting! read more

I am going again tonight though my first time there was a success. Delicious Spring rolls, tasty Bun Bowl though I was expecting to be Buns filled with stuff. Tasty ingredients, nice decor with an upstairs spot looking over the street of Chinatown, with all its red lights and asian decor. The place is and looks newish, though it is fairly successful from what I have seen. Good mix of locals and tourists (it is very central), and a quite long menu to choose from, making it a good spot while cruising in the area. I'm pleased to say that this my six time that I have been going to eat at this lovely restaurant. The place is small its spread into two levels as for me a wheelchair user so I can't head up to the upper level. That is the building done but the stardom the show is the food. I am not a fan of spicy food but I had 'morning glory ' it's a salad but it had light chilli sparsely through it if chilli is not your game then there's the garlic version. For my main I had the sea bass in banana leaf with a lemon grass rice so another successful meal had there I think I'm beginning to become a regular, it can get fairly busy at times so a queue might be there. read more

My waiter was extremely rude and we had no idea why. He was this older Chinese/ Cantonese man serving on the second floor ( don't get me wrong I'm Chinese too). We kept trying to be nice to him, smile and say please and thank you but that did not change his attitude. He seemed annoyed. His body was half way turned while taking our order like he had somewhere to go. He actually try to leave a couple of times before we finished giving the order. And NO !! He was not busy because he kept going back to the bar area to talk and chill with the other older waiter! The new owner has transformed the site of a previously owned Vietnamese restaurant in London Chinatown, to give it character and providing a rustic atmosphere. Viet Food had a range of drinks on the menu including cocktails and mocktails. They have two creation of their own juice. I tried the Wow Wow which came served in a mini milk bottle for £3.50. Although it was a cute way to present juice but it was I felt it was too expensive for the amount of juice that was served at that price tag. I thought the hot drink we tried, lemongrass tea (£1.90), which is served in a teapot was better value. For food we tried their Tradition rice paper summer roll with prawns (£5). It was like your typical size Summer roll witu all the greens and herb that had been rolled together. A nice way to open up a meal! We ordered two of the chef selection dishes to try and the portion size was small. These dishes are good to have with rice and give an alternative to having noodle. From the chef selection, the tender belly pork was£7.50 for only 3-pieces of average chopped belly pork and the portion size reminded me of House of Ho. But I did not think it was as good and thought it needed to be brasied longer as it was not tender enough. The Chargrilled lemongrass chicken for £6.50 was nice with succlent moist chicken. Full of flavour and it wrnt well with the pickle vegetables that the chicken sat on. There are five different phos to select from the menu. We tried the pho with the lean rare beef. The broth was fragrant as you would expect from a Vietnamese pho. Bun is a vermicelli noodle that is served like a salad. Each one is toped with cucumber, bers, peanuts and a choice of pork, beef or prawn. They are all serve with a fish sauce which you need to pour over the dish, otherwise the dish is dry and bland. Overall, the decor of Viet food was nice but the food didn't stand out for me to say "Woah". I would visit again but wouldn't rush to. However there will be some dishes I would not order again, such as the belly pork. I probably stick to their pho and bun. read more

Not that hungry as we walked around China Town (had a full, heavy lunch around 1pm at Zizzi's) but decided we should find a place to have dinner soon as the restaurants were getting crowded. Viet Food was highly recommended by my friend's teenage son. The place looked packed so we were like "sure, lets give it a try". We got a table on the second floor, a table for four. Table kind of tiny and the chairs (or, i should say, stools) were tiny as well so if you're on the heavy side it might not be a good idea to sit on those stools. The place was pretty clean. We had a very kind waiter (he was young and he wore glasses) who reminded me of a childhood neighbor. Anyway, much to our surprise, we finished every bit and piece of our food. Horrible experiences I just had / saw .... a couple came in during the rain and wanted to wait inside, there are plenty of space but the waiter didn't allow them to stay, and asked them to wait under the rain, when the boyfriend was frustrated and decided to leave, the waiter yelled at the couple "fuck you, if you aren't patient enough don't come.." ... horrifying me and the other guests ... but this place isn't THAT plus the owner pls do something about the waiter at the door... horrible read more
