There are also parking spots closer to the statue, not sure if it's free. You can also go to Seaport Village for lunch or dinner. This statue gets busy during the afternoon and evening. If you want nobody photo bombing your picture, aim for the early morning before 10 am or go late at night. This is open 24 hrs.

The architecture stands out, quietly waiting to be noticed and appreciated. The Stephens Terry house made my head turn as I was biking by, had to stop and take a look at this historical landmark that's up for sale. "The mansion, a three-story Coronado landmark at 711 A Ave., was designed by noted architects William Hebbard and Irving Gill in 1898 for A.P. Stephens. It was purchased in 1915 as a retirement home by Marshall O. Terry, former surgeon general of New York. Mr. Hansen bought the home at auction in 1950. He raised two families there - his four sons and two nephews and a niece, whom he took in after the death of their parents." Union Tribune Such a treat to find a 117 year old mansion style home! Starting at the Bayfront Hilton and ending at Tidelands Park. It was a beautiful day and we felt great. At the end of the event you could pick up your tee and medal. Tee, check but the medals were missing. The event did not have enough medals. No reward for your hard work. The event made the situation right by ordering more. However, they did take eight weeks and you had to pick them up. If you complete the 2027 walk the medals interconnect with the 2026, making them unique. We will consider walking again. You can check their website to get other dates when it's free to visit. I chose to run there instead of driving in because I heard that they have very scenic trails and they sure were! There were 2 trails from the main park and each one lets you go down closer to the water while enjoying spectacular view. The trails are short (about 2-3 miles round trip each) and it's basically dirt road/packed sand all the way. The gift shop is a delight and highly recommend stopping by to get a trinket or two and also get your National Park passport stamped!

Which resulted in the playground being loaded with children and families having fun and relaxing in the cool breeze. There are ton of play activities for the kids: blue climbing mountain with slides, cool spaceship looking merry go rounds, swings, climbing, obstacle courses, etc. There are tons of tables, benches, and lots of shady areas for picnics or relaxing while the kids play. It was awesome to find this playground ride down the road from where we were staying. Too bad this is our last full day in San Diego.

What about great views of the harbor and city skyline on the other side? Yup it has that too. I come here many times with my dogs, as the dog park is a decent size for medium dogs to run around in. The dog area may not have grass, but it has dirt, and is usually kept clean. I actually prefer the dirt compared to artificial turf. Something to note is that there is only one park, so big dogs are combined with small ones. Theres a small obstacle course for dogs to jump and run through. And for the humans, there's also a few benches on the side to sit at.

My main goal was to explore the walkability, public transport options, and lodging choices. I would give Little Italy an A+ in all three categories! Throughout the district you'll find Italian restaurants at every corner, mini-marts, and boutique stores. If you'd like to vacation here, you can literally spend a couple of days in Little Italy and have everything you need in one spot. A trolley station is available near the center of the main hub and there's plenty of hotels! I wouldn't stay over the Summer as prices are exorbitantly high, I'd visit during the off season. July would be the worst month to stay in my opinion! Little Italy has a massive plaza with bistro-style tables and chairs open to the public. I couldn't help but notice the fact that I felt transported to Italy! Several restaurant owners had an Italian accent or spoke Italian. Additionally, the aroma of pizzerias and pubs were quite enticing. If you're into sports, there's several locations with screens for watching live events. My only issue with Little Italy is the lack of parking. Everywhere you go, street parking and paid parking is FULL. You'll be lucky to find a spot during the summer season. I found a spot after half an hour of circling the vicinity like a San Diego shark. The city needs to create more underground lots or more street parking.

Hands down, San Diego has some of the most beautiful parks, and Balboa Park is definitely one of those places that deserves to be experienced. You can spend a few hours here or an entire day and still feel like there's more to explore. If you're in San Diego, Balboa Park is a must-see!

We especially loved exploring the House of Pacific Relations International Cottages. The International Cottages are such a unique part of the park. Each cottage highlights a different country and culture, giving visitors the opportunity to learn about traditions, history, food, music, and so much more from around the world--all in one beautiful setting. We loved walking around, learning about the different cultures, and experiencing the welcoming atmosphere. It's a wonderful way to expose children to the diversity of our world and encourage curiosity and appreciation for other cultures. The beautiful architecture, gardens, cultural displays, and friendly volunteers made the experience even more special. It's definitely one of the areas of Balboa Park that shouldn't be missed! A wonderful place for families, culture lovers, and anyone who enjoys learning and exploring. Highly recommend adding the International Cottages to your Balboa Park visit!

We saw the lifeguards come and talk to them and they just waited and jumped anyway. SO dumb. but I guess that's what you do when you're young and foolish lol I'll try to post pics here. I couldn't appreciate its 70 foot height but fortunately the natural area is respected, didn't see any garbage or human made etchings. Quince Street Bridge is a few blocks away, so might want to check that out too and do a hike underneath.
