    Welcome Home Ethan!
    Beth S.

My nephew came home from his 10 month deployment on The USS Carl Vinson. This is his second welcome home from deployment celebration. I get chills every time! My heart goes out to all on board especially the young men and women that leave their homes and families sometimes for the very first time in their lives for several months to protect our country! Love you all.

Great reception area right next to The World Famous IBAR

We had such a great time at a retirement ceremony and reception here. Everything was planned really well, and the tacos were delicious! The kids loved the popcorn in their The World Famous IBAR.

I love Coronado Island and I can't believe for all the number of times I've visited I've never stopped into the base-wow I was really missing out! After being at Sigonella in Sicily this base is a close second to my all time favorites. Gorgeous private beach, NEX to shop for beach goodies and a food court to grab a snack. A McDonalds is on base, a bowling alley and a nice hotel beachside (if you can get a reservation). Don't miss!

Waiting to see the USS Pickney

I was just there for 2014 Fleet Week. The base is nice. I've only been to a handful of bases, so I think it ranks up there. Fleet Week is fun, they give you free tours of the USS Nimitz, USS Somerset, & the USS Pickney. Though the wait to get on the tour bus to take you to the ships is not fun. But hey, its free so suck it up. Since these are "active" ships I understand that we can't tour everywhere, but lets just say one tour was disappointing compared to the others. Can you guess which one? Aboard the USS Nimitz, you come aboard and get to see the hanger. Then you're allowed to ride the plane elevator. Finally, your on the flight deck with two dummy F-18 Hornets and a crane. That said, seeing some of the crew do their jobs is neat. And also seeing some of the crew leaving for shore leave through a door on to the hanger deck only to be sent back through that door is funny. Obviously the Navy wants only their best dressed working. Aboard the USS Somerset, you get a guided tour of the ship including the bridge. The story of the USS Somerset is touching. You will see a bunch of memorabilia for the crash of Flight 93. The Admiral of the 11th Strikeforce came aboard and that was a site to see. Everyone gets on edge while he does this walk through. Thank you for the tour Ensign Jones, from Louisiana. Aboard the USS Pickney "the best destroyer in the Navy" per Alex Foley, they also give you a guided tour. First off the is the weapons system, then you go on to the bridge, and finally they show you the side torpedoes. Serving on s destroyer must be one tight fit. Also being an active base, seeing crewmen carrying M-16s is a little intimidating. They are apparently always walking around the ships/base keeping guard. Even the guy riding the bus had his had on his holster, on the moving bus full of civilians. There were several helicopters on display by the race track/entrance to the ship tours. Along with a drone helicopter and other service vehicles. I love that we can tour the ships for free and skip the $25.00 race track. Thank you United States Government and big thank you to everyone who has served or is currently serving. My thanks cannot fully describe my gratitude towards your dedication to protect the United States of America.

This is a nice Naval Base, just small compared to some bases I've been to. I love how their lodging is right on the beach.

This incident was facilitated by the Health and Human Services Agency, whose name I believe is Mendoza. Harley denied my benefits not due to racism, but as retaliation after he hung up on me . I informed him that I would file a report, which prompted him to gather all the security guards, including his supervisor, to harass me further and retaliate against me. This behavior constitutes discrimination against me. I requested that the County preserve the video footage and body cam footage of the security guards outside the building. I also notified a private security guards humor resources company about the incident. It is unacceptable that these individuals, who are paid by the County and wear uniforms, harass single women in uniform. This is our tax money, and we deserve to have it used responsibly. I urge everyone to speak up and take action against this discrimination. BELOW ZERO STAR

However whenever I try to call for the 'mediCal eligibility' to renew I get "Oh we don't have any authorization on file to let us talk to you about his file." A worker called yesterday telling me I would receive an eliglibity call today at 9:30am. No call. So I called the country. The person answering say 'we don't see any authorization for you to talk to us about his case but I will transfer you to an eligiblity worker". I was transfered to waiting music for about 15 minutes. Finally a human answered and when I gave the case number, the last four of his SSN, and our address, she said "we don't have any paperwork on file here allowing us to talk to you." I hung up in disgust and called my son's doctor. The doctor (just like last year) said he would call these people and help me!

It has been a 5-star experience, from last week and this morning. I would like to give special recognition to a particular staff that assisted us on both occasions. On both times, we must have picked her brain for a good hour. I apologize for not remembering her official title. Eva has been most helpful and patient through out our quit claim process. She kept things positive and was always reassuring. As she lead the way in keeping us on track and then letting us know what's to be expected, I knew my nerves would be much calmer. Documents and forms (quit claims), if not filled out properly, can cause major issues in the long run. Our fear in filling, filing and getting notarized and then finding out parts/all of the steps was missed. Who wants to keep back-tracking on missed stuff and correcting information....definitely not a good plan. I feel good about today and lleaving the county building on a good note. Elderlies went through theirs recently, and it broke my heart to see how difficult it was made for them. Instead of asking simple, considerate questions suitable for seniors, the officer gave them some of the hardest questions possible -- as if forgetting they are already in their late years and struggling with memory. Not everyone gets the same treatment. Some officers are kind, patient, and truly human -- while others are cold, robotic, and lack basic empathy. It's unfair that outcomes depend purely on luck -- on whether you get the compassionate officer or the heartless one. These are elderly people who already have memory issues. The fact that they still try -- and even pay -- to apply for U.S. citizenship should already show their dedication and effort. The least they deserve is patience, respect, and understanding -- not interrogation-level questioning that leaves them anxious, confused, and ashamed. Give OLD PEOPLE some grace. Their minds and memories are not the same as younger applicants. Show humanity. Show compassion. Remember that you are speaking to someone's mother, father, or grandparent -- not just another case number. USCIS needs to retrain officers to handle senior applicants with care. The process should be about dignity, not intimidation. Treating people with kindness and empathy costs nothing -- but it means everything to families like ours.
