Driving north of SR-70 (Asheville Highway), I crossed the bridge and my eye was drawn to the dam to…read morethe east. Thankfully, there is a turnoff and I was able to get a proper look at the dam. A little further, a road turns to the right and it curves back under the dam and leads down to the riverside. A few pickup trucks were parked as people are using the dam for some intense fishing. The dam was built by the Tennessee Eastern Electric Company in 1912-1913 and generates hydroelectricity. It was later purchased by the Tennessee Valley Authority who improved it to the point where it was able to generate 10,640 kilowatts of electricity. Unfortunately, the area became too blocked with sediment and the generators were taken offline in 1972. The dam and reservoir are now used for flood control and recreation. We have family in the area and came across this jewel while visiting. The grounds are well…read moremaintained. There are nice FHU and rustics sites with several miles of dog-friendly trails. This is not a large State Park but it has a lot to offer. The historical site is a short walk from the campground and contains a plethora of information. The rangers are very friendly and gladly answer any questions as well as giving nature hikes and historical tours. The sites slope downhill toward the river but get leveler the closer you are to be the river. Large Motorhomes will want to avoid the first row (closest to the road) and possibly the second row. You will definitely need a few more leveling blocks on these rows. The last two rows are not too bad with few to no leveling blocks needed. We found Verizon and AT&T Cell and Data Services to work well. The park offers free WiFi that is readily usable most of the day. Note: If you have a long trailer or Motorhome, say 30' or more. There are several routes to get here coming off of 11E. Make sure and call the campground for directions. You want to follow the route from the Limestone area that takes you under the railroad tracks. Otherwise, you will be on some uncomfortable narrow curvy roads.

We decided to stop in Dandrige overnight and catch some zzzs before making the final leg the following day. It was the 4th of July and we came across the Dandridge dock while searching for some dinner. We got out to take a look and wow, the view of Douglas Lake was so beautiful that evening. It has a long walkway and at the end of it, there are Adirondack chairs for people to sit on. There were several people taking their boats out or coming in, families fishing, and other people like ourselves taking in the view. Definitely worth taking a few minutes to take a peek when staying in or around Dandridge or simply passing through. Stay safe, Friends!

The Sinks is a lovely waterfall along the river. There is a small parking lot with about a dozen spaces where we found parking. An observation area is a short walk from parking. A sign describes the area and that the falls were manmade. During the late 1800's the river was used to transport logs/timber to the nearby town of Elkmont. After a storm, flood waters caused a jam in the river. Dynamite was used to restore water flow. The blast resulted in a twist in the river and creation of the waterfall. A set of stone steps leads up a hill, offering lovey views of the falls. There are dozens of waterfalls in the Park. Sinks is one of the few that is drivable, which is great for people that cannot hike. I picked up a Waterfalls map at the visitor center that I found interesting and informative. Parking passes are required to park in the lot. There are no amenities at the falls. Plan 15-30 minutes for a stop and photos.

They have gas pumps, holding tank pumpout service, diner, drinks, bait, tackle, boating supplies, and plenty of other sruff in the shop. I bought 100% (ethanol free) gasoline and had the holding tank pumped out for a very good price. The owner's son Mason was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this dock!
