The first year with my golden retriever, Luka, was extremely hard. He was a mouthy dog who had zero boundaries at home or outside. He would get excited or frustrated and grab/bite onto my shoes or clothes daily. Walking him became an impossible task because he was extremely dog-reactive, and he dragged me a couple of times while trying to chase another dog. Walking him also became a two-person job, with someone always on the lookout for other dogs so we could turn the other way. He also began to resource guard and snapped at my dad twice.. I had already spent thousands on another trainer and didn't have much success. I began to feel like this was just what life with Luka would be like forever. It got to the point where I felt scared of him, and the life I was giving him out of that fear wasn't fair to him. So I decided to try and get help one last time. I found Lori's page and after reading the reviews I became hopeful again. I took Luka in for an evaluation, and Lori recommended their board-and-train program. I can't thank Chelsea and Lori enough for everything they've done. I've learned so much about Luka, how to manage different situations, and how to better understand his behavior. We had training lessons throughout his board-and-train stay and afterward, because we are the ones who need most of the training! Chelsea did an amazing job with Luka. At home, Luka is unrecognizable in the best way. We can actually go on adventures outside without being terrified that we won't be able to handle him. Those who knew Luka before his stay and see him now always comment on how well he is doing. I cannot recommend Lori Hamilton's Dog training enough to anyone who feels like they've tried everything and is feeling discouraged. I am so thankful because it finally feels like Luka and I can start living life and enjoying everything around us.

He was an anxious, leash pulling, cat chasing, chewing, biting and jumping-- hiding inside an adorable shell. We started in Lori's group class, then did private one on one training with her and ultimately 4 weeks of board and train at her facility. She trained us and trained him and ultimately transformed life at home. Our 3 cats are now able to be in the same room as him. Our visitors no longer have him standing up on their chest in exuberant greeting. We can relax and have dinner without Ruben trying to eat our feet or running zoomies around the room. We can walk him without having our arms ripped out of our sockets. He is calm around other dogs. He is crate trained and easily goes to sleep at night. He has his own treadmill and works out twice a day, in addition to our daily walks. We been to Pack walks with Lori and 15 other dogs, all walking obediently through the Pruneyard shopping center. The dogs get to work on socialization and good manners on these field trips. Lori came to our house and we staged a meal with a visitor. It really helped us learn how to keep him on his best behavior during meal time with a guest!!! Our first year with Ruben was really tough, he was not the mellow golden retriever we anticipated. He loves people but is naturally a very timid pup when it comes to other dogs (small and large) mainly because he grew up without siblings but we also had an experience with a larger dog living around my apartment complex that made things even worse. So of course I was cautious to bring my puppy around other dogs.. I was put more at ease knowing they separate the larger breeds from the smaller ones. I also loved receiving videos and photos of each class. It took him about 7-8 classes to finally warm up to other dogs but the progress I saw week by week was promising. He definitely is not a dog park dog to this day, but he loves making new friends at regular parks and beaches now which is huge for us. Our pup growled and was very displeased that this stranger was in his space, and worse, trying to interact with him. Dawna was not a bit deterred, which I was impressed by but I remained skeptical. Fast forward something like 2 weeks: Dawna interacted with him with ease on training days and he loved receiving love and pets from her. We couldn't believe it. After my initial conversation with Haley, I was able to successfully work through the separation anxiety and cat reactivity on my own, then had a series of training sessions to address the dog reactivity. Before training, walks with Sophie caused me so much anxiety - we had to stay far away from any dogs to avoid the embarrassing meltdowns. Going on any trails near dogs was out of the question. With training, swapping her collar and lots of practice on our own, we now regularly walk busy trails and beaches and have fun! Sophie can now pass 10-20 dogs on Los Gatos Trail without issues. If I had to do it over again, I would definitely choose the boarding/training package instead to make the process easier and faster. Leonard Simmons (aka rawk9academy) runs a terrible business and and is a poor quality trainer. I…read morespent close to $1500 and my dog learned nothing. I tried the group lessons and board and train. He typically trains at Butcher Park in San Jose. The group lessons are a joke. It is the same thing every week where you walk in a circle at the park while Leonard is usually busy doing something else with someone else's dog. He doesn't pay attention to all the dogs and one of his other client's dog tried to bite my dog. He mixes large and small dogs in the same group and doesn't separate based on temperament. He also no shows for sessions without warning and often "loses his phone" so you can't reach him. The first board and train he told me to give him a list of things to work on with my dog and again didn't learn anything. I decided to try one last board and train because Leonard promised that he would be able to get her completely trained as a "service dog". However, the last board and train is what made me decide to stop working with Leonard. My dog got some eye infection and my vet was worried that she would lose her vision. I ended up having to send her to an eye specialist which cost close to $1000. It was miserable for both of us as we had to cone her and give her drops and ointments and medication every few hours. Additionally, Leonard gives your dog's food/treats to his dogs and doesn't make sure that your dog is fed. My dog is 8 pounds and lost 2 pounds while she stayed with him. You also have to double and triple check things you leave with him because he often doesn't return it all. So, not only did I have a huge expense from the eye infection, but I didn't finish my board and train and Leonard refused to refund my $300! Leonard essentially ghosted me after I tried many times to contact him. Unfortunately, Leonard Simmons makes you pay for services (in cash, Venmo, etc) in advance so be warned as you can NOT get your money back if things don't work out.

Amelia gave us really powerful tools to improve Dash's behavior, and overall and tips and tricks for how to get him more comfortable at home. Dash is a lot more attentive to my cues on walks and is a lot less reactive to dogs on walks. He was a well mannered dog to begin with, but is even better now. I really appreciated that Amelia was able to come to my home in San Jose to do the training. Even though Dash primarily lives with my parents in San Bruno, he still spends a fair amount of time in my home in San Jose and getting him trained in a familiar environment has seemed to be beneficial for him. Sarah started walking Kirby a month ago. She is great with him and now Kirby's favorite part of his…read moreday. She also is teaching him new skills and understands he's a herding bread, that he needs to be worked out and use his brain to split up his day. I also have a very sick cat and she is a wealth of knowledge. She's helped me get him to eat, helped me give medications and fluids. I trust Sarah with my 4 legged kids and my 2 legged son. She's a great attribute to our daily pet needs.
