He loves people but is naturally a very timid pup when it comes to other dogs (small and large) mainly because he grew up without siblings but we also had an experience with a larger dog living around my apartment complex that made things even worse. So of course I was cautious to bring my puppy around other dogs.. I was put more at ease knowing they separate the larger breeds from the smaller ones. I also loved receiving videos and photos of each class. It took him about 7-8 classes to finally warm up to other dogs but the progress I saw week by week was promising. He definitely is not a dog park dog to this day, but he loves making new friends at regular parks and beaches now which is huge for us. Writing this review for their puppy socials - it was an awesome experience! It's super convenient that you can drop off and pick up and not stress about making sure your pup is doing ok while in the social. They do an amazing job at sending videos (we received a ton and the quality was great)! All the pups look like they're having a ton of fun and staff is clearly paying attention to the needs of the dogs. When you pick up your puppy, they also give a recap of how your puppy did - I've tried other puppy socials and this one was my favorite - a lot of room for them to run and play. I will say that setting up the initial appointment was rough - I called about a handful of times and sent two emails before receiving a response, however, I did receive a response in time to set a weekend appointment. Once I got the call, staff was kind and they were also great in person - they all truly look like they enjoy what they do. read more

We love everything about K9 Keep Fit! We are new dog owners who adopted a rescue late summer and needed to board him within a month for 3 nights. I was worried about having to leave him so soon and likely came across as a neurotic dog owner. Renee and team made sure Malai could visit 2x before his boarding and always provided helpful updates and answered my questions. The socialization aspect has been a game changer and why we keep coming. We were told that in temperament testing Malai came on a little strong (he's a young shepherd mix!) and they worked with him on proper intros and disengaging if other dogs weren't interested. Those skills saved my dog from getting bitten by an aggressive neighbor dog - Malai approached but disengaged when the dog showed aggression, another dog did not and got bit right in front of us. I appreciate getting videos when Malai is boarding, and I love how excited he gets when he sees the parking lot. He also greets the trainers like he greets family and while he is happy to see us - he is sad to leave at pick-up. I initially took my dog to the puppy social. Their doors were locked, but I didn't think anything of it as social was on the weekend. A few weeks later, I was able to get a spot into their daycare. Their webpage AND the owner, Renee, said that they typically have the day laid out as stated on their webpage, which is play time, about 2 hours rest time in crate, and more play time with pack walks incorporated. Pleased, I bought the 12 day package. RESERVATIONS: Little did I know how difficult it was to reserve a day for my dog. It was ridiculous-- even if I reserved days or a week in advance, sometimes I would get denied because they would already be full. Uh...then why did you even take me off the daycare waitlist??? ACCESSIBILITY: Their doors are ALWAYS locked and seldom is there a person at the front desk. There are times I just need to drop off my dog and get going, but end up waiting at the front door for someone to come in. Sometimes they take over 5 minutes to get to you because they didn't know you were there! Imagine on the rainy days or extremely hot weather and I'm out there waiting in front of a locked door with my dog for a service I prepaid. They even have a sign on their door that says to call a number so that someone will come in. What a hassle. If they want their doors locked for 'safety', then install a doorbell for goodness' sakes. QUALITY: The day that my dog has was completely different than described. Apparently, dogs are always put in rotation there. 1 hour out to play, 1 hour in crate and so on. This is the standard there, which means half the time, he was in a crate. out of the 12 times that I took him there, not ONCE was he taken on a pack walk. I asked about my dog's day every time and every time they said he was a cuddle bug and great with all dogs and listens well, but that they 'didn't have enough staff' for a walk. Every. single. time. I am extremely displeased that their website and the owner did not mention this rotation at all. Why am I paying for daycare all day if you leave my dog locked up half the day anyway? CLEANLINESS: My dog ended up with kennel cough. After not taking him for a few weeks, I took him in for daycare and the next day he was lethargic. He was better after $800 at the vet. When I called to tell them that my dog had it so they can take appropriate precautions, they had the audacity to tell me that they thought they got rid of that in their facility. Let me explain-- the owner said that several dogs had gotten it over the last few weeks, but that they closed for a day to disinfect. First of all, it would have been nice to know so I could decide if I still wanted him to come. Secondly, my dog trainer (who's the best with 40+ yrs exp in dog training and doggie daycares) says when that happens, closing for one day does nothing! Disinfecting for that takes longer than just one day. Third, all they did was say sorry but offered absolutely nothing else. I am baffled with how this place has consistent 5 star ratings. The only reason why I didn't give them 1 star is because the videos they send when my dog is playing are really cute. I've since found another nearby daycare that actually lets my dog have fun all day other than 2 hours of crate time. Their daycare is also at capacity and I asked the owner how they do with reservations. They said they will always prioritize those with a daycare package (I bought the 20 day pack). I have never been denied once there for reservations. They also have webcams on all the time so I can check in on my baby, which I really like. read more

Been waiting a while to write this update; it's long overdue. When picking up Toby one evening, the owner, Renee, said, "Have you noticed anything funny about Toby's right eye? The sun caught it just right today, and it seems different, as if it's cloudy." We hadn't noticed, and indeed it was hard to see, as when we took him to our vet, she had a difficult time picking it up, but did say that yes, there was something there, and she'd refer us to a specialist with much better diagnostic equipment. This all began about 6 months of cataract surgery on both eyes (by the way, if you've been thinking about getting Trupanion insurance, sign up right now -- they were absolutely awesome), and now our boy can see again. The thing is, if you catch this in time, the outcome can be great; if you miss it, then you could be looking at a very poor outcome, with glaucoma and blindness. So, how exactly do you rate a place that kept your pup from going blind? Stars seem pretty trite for that kind of thing, don't you think? After a long recovery, Toby's once again back playing with his BFFs, Balto and Auggy. This is a great place, run by great people. read more

So glad we found K9 Keep Fit, Renee H. (owner), and Gil R. (lead trainer)! They are a 5 star rated business for a reason!!! We started out with K9's Saturday puppy socials to see our our pup would do with the K9 pack. We then enrolled our puppy, Dash, for daycare once a week. That eventually led us to feel comfortable boarded him with K9 for 10 days when we had to go out of town. I think we were worried about the horror stories that the pup is never the same after being boarded in a facility, but that was not the case with Dash and K9. They took terrific care of him and we appreciated the daily videos of him playing with his buddies or getting personal time with the staff. Dash has never lost his eagerness and excitement when he arrives at K9. He loves K9. A tremendous kudos to Gil. As Dash grew bigger, we were worried about his loose leash walking and pulling/lunging at other dogs and people. I heard from another K9 parent how they worked with Gil on getting their dog to loose-leash walk successfully. We were encouraged because we tried positive training and that did not work with distractions (other dogs, cats, squirrels, people). After three private lessons with Gil, who helped us understand the benefits of balance training for dogs like Dash, we had the tools and knowledge to practice and apply the techniques on our pup. We are so thrilled that Dash can walk nicely. Gil has a lot of dog behavior knowledge and training experience. We appreciate that he has the patience of a saint with our questions and being available resource when we need it! read more

I'm giving three stars for the quality and the overall experience of K9 Keep Fit since the trainers are wonderful. I'm docking two points because of administrative and customer service flaws we've recently experienced. On 12/31/2021, I had emailed them at info@k9keepfit.com (which I doubled and triple-checked before writing this review) to update my dog's vaccination records. No response which I found rather odd, they normally send some sort of confirmation. On 01/11/2022, I emailed them again at the above email to see if they had any openings to board our dog for this coming weekend, also asking them to confirm receipt of our dog's vaccination record I had emailed them. Surprisingly, no response. I'm a little disheartened because we enjoyed sending our dog there but if it's this complicated to get a response from this business, it's not worth it in my opinion. If it's a lack of administrative help, please look to hiring someone who can handle all of this on the backend. Perhaps that person can be a remote admin? Just a thought as I understand current labor shortages. read more

Great place for puppy play time, doggie day care, or overnight kennel. Would recommend

We have been bring our Sheepadoodle here for puppy social for the past month and we are very happy with the service. The service is only for puppies that had at least their second round of vaccinations and allows your dog to PLAY and interact with only puppies of their size. I emphasize play because there is no way a dog walk can duplicate the puppy play. The interaction, the bitting inhibition, and agility-chasing tires out our dog more than any 30 minute walk. The first time our dog went here for only an hour she was out for a day and a half just sleeping and mildly walking to go potty. She was the perfect dog afterwards. That means no nipping or jumping at anyone. Sadly that only last for a day. (Sigh) Plus, the social interaction is important way for puppies to learn how to behave with other types and breeds of dogs. From these socials my dog has played with poodles, American pit bulls, huskies, and other doodle breeds. The videos are really fun to watch too. I put it as a parent watching their child play in the playground for the first time. Overall, a wonderful service and experience. It's a great way to also get test out the company for future boarding and day care services. read more

I can't even begin to express the gratitude and love I have for K9 Keep Fit. Renee, Sybl, Gil and the other wonderful members of their staff go above and beyond to make sure that your dog has a wonderful time and are in good hands. Boba, my male shiba, had been going through some kind of second puberty and started getting a n g s t y lately. He had never really been too excited about big crowds and new dogs, but after another dog attacked him, he didn't want to meet other dogs at all and started becoming anxious. The team were totally understanding and made me feel reassured that they would do their best to take care of him. They didn't take advantage of the real concern that I had for my dog and they were patient, understanding and totally loving towards him. I had met and consulted at least 8 other different dog training programs and I was at my wit's end because they all felt so... predatory. But not K9 Keep Fit. I've seen a real difference in how he meets dogs and saw a wonderful improvement in his confidence ever since he's met with k9 keep fit and the team. They have boarding and full and half day doggie daycare for special case dogs that are more timid, or not well socialized, which made me feel so much more at ease since I knew that they really cared about the comfort of each dog. With each visit, I've seen how much Boba has changed for the better, and they always update me whenever I go to pick him up after his sessions. Sybl, their dog trainer, has been respectful and considerate. She's always tried to understand my dog before giving random advice that wasn't even relevant to the things I had in concern for my dog, which I had experienced with other dog trainers. Although I live closer to Milpitas/Fremont and K9 Keep Fit is in Campbell, it is worth every mile, penny and minute since they are just an overall fantastic team. read more

I am so happy I found this place. I have a pittie rescue, she's an amazing young dog, but developed a lot of anxiety from her time on the streets and extended stay at the shelter. She's super friendly with people, but has a hard time playing with other dogs. I call her socially awkward. A lot of times she doesn't want to socialize with other dogs, and got kicked out of another day care for learning how to jump over a fence to be alone by herself :( Well, folks at K9 keep fit understand these things and welcomed Mati with open arms. I always ask of her progress and I am told that she has been making friends and playing with some of the dogs there, which makes me so happy to hear. Our dog Avery loves going to K9 Keep Fit for doggy care. She somehow knows when it's time leave on her daycare days and waits by the door. The entire team at K9 is really kind and the owner, Renee, really cares about her business. I can't imagine how difficult it's been with Covid related challenges and I appreciate that she often finds time to personally say hi - let us know how our bundle of energy did that day - who her doggy friends are - and she send photos and videos. I saw a post about delayed communications- we haven't had any issues. I've received vaccine records reminders and they have always been able to accommodate us on date change requests. We tried out two doggy daycares in the beginning and it was obvious to us Avery preferred K-9 Keep Fit. The dogs are matched up based on energy not solely based on size. Our playful and rambunctious Shiba was bored with only small dogs at the other daycare. Working from home with a younger active dog can be ll complicated. She wants to play and while we want to play we have to work. This is the best of both worlds - she gets to play, we get to work and have peace of mind that she's in a good place. It was then that I continued to connect with Renee, Anne and the rest of the staff to plan to bring Milo in for a trial day. I was really nervous because I know Milo has had a history of being leash reactive towards other dogs. Everyone I've spoken to has reassured me that they see dogs of all different backgrounds and temperaments and are willing to work with Milo. Since our trial day, however, everyone here has been working hard to help Milo and I'm beginning to see differences when we walk him at home! Thank you to everyone here! K9 has a pretty stringent policy to have all their daycare and boarding participants up to date on their shots. Rightly so because can you imagine dealing with an anti-vaXxXer dog parent who gave your pet who knows what when you're not even in town? No text/video/or picture updates over two nights can be a good or bad thing depending; but with their eval and how they handled Emi's 'independence' the week before, I didn't sweat it too much. She was in good hands. Thanks to Sybil, Renee and crew for a hassle-free experience. Hopefully I won't need to board in the near future and that all the construction at the time completed for the dogs to enjoy the space more. read more

This has been a long overdue review! I have known about K9 for awhile since it was near my old work--but I never really inquired about it until August of last year & I am so so glad we did! I was pregnant and was due to go to the hospital with about a week of notice so my husband and I started to make arrangements for everything including our 5 year old husky. We have gone to another boarding place beforehand, but they were unable to take him in and we were starting to panic until I remembered about K9. I reached out to them and Renee was very accommodating with answering my questions and concerns and also the length of time being unknown of how long I would have to stay in the hospital for. Renee and her team thankfully was able to take our dog Oreo in for about a week! With the overwhelming change of events of giving birth, we were so glad to know that our dog was in great hands. We were given updates while he was away. He came home well rested but happy and the introduction to our newborn was such an easy segue since he was all excercised out and calm! Ever since then, whenever we need boarding services, K9 Keep Fit has been our go to! I can totally tell the difference of the time Oreo spends here versus where we used to board him and it's much more fitting since he is a high energy dog. This review is LONG overdue and for a reason. Every time I thought or saw this place if I'm in the area, it would bring me anxiety but I promised myself I would eventually do a review. Back on January 29, 2019, my 10 month pit bull puppy at the time got his leg injured and NO ONE could tell me what happened. There was no accountability. They assumed one of the other dogs might have bit him or hurt him and they'd left everything in air - *shrugs, oh well and maybe he's fine? Kind of customer service. Obviously this is unacceptable and the only thing I appreciate is the owner called me right away and left me a voicemail while I was at work. I called back but no one was available but to the point, we were able to connect and I spoke to the owner and staff member who I met the morning of when I dropped off my dog. I was told he got hurt in the back area so I asked if they had cameras to see what happened and they do not. I asked was anyone back there at the time? Their reply was yes but "You know, there's so many dogs and it's just us so we can't keep an eye on all of them." From there, it led me to MANY MORE questions like "What is your ratio then? How many dogs do you accept per handler/staff member? Is it enough? Are you overwhelmed?" I was just unhappy and worrying at this point. I really wanted to like this place but they screwed up and lost my trust and business. This all occured around our 3rd or so try so this place was still new to us. My boyfriend and I did notice our dog kept limping (the same leg that got hurt) after each pickup after work but we assumed he was tired from all the playing at the day care. Maybe this was a sign and we shouldn't have ignored it. I ended up paying anyway but at half rate (I should have demanded it for free but I was over it at this point) and I was repeatedly told "He might need knee surgery, but don't quote me on it because I'm not a Vet." Just stop. Stop right there. But it didn't! I'm sure it was coming from a good place but they kept reaching out asking if my dog ended up needing knee surgery where I was starting to think do you even care or are you trying to protect yourself? I ignored all of the messages because I did not and continue to not want contact from this place because it was a horrible and traumatic experience where we haven't tried another day care because of THIS. This is a day care so the basic expectation is if my dog is accepted or approved to your facility, day CARE would be provided which that day it was not. We, like a ton of other people, got a puppy (Bailey) during the COVID shelter in place. This was my first pup (I usually adopt older dogs) so I wanted to do it right. After reading some books and watching YouTube training videos, I decided I needed a more hands on, personable approach. After researching some doggy training locations in San Jose - I decided to go with K9 Keep Fit. Some of the reasons are because I did not read references to e-collars on pups in the reviews and there really were no bad reviews. I reached out and Sybl responded right away. She was super accomodating and we did a few Zoom training sessions from home. Once K9 Keep Fit was able to open, we immediately signed up for the Puppy Social class and obedience training. Our pup is coming along so well and I feel very supported by the team here. I can text with any questions and Sybl really understands our dog (an Old English Sheepdog). We also boarded Bailey for a few nights while out of town and when we picked her up she did not want to leave. So, we have decided to take her in a few days a week for daycare so she can play to her hearts content and get socialization time. Whenever Bailey hits the lobby of this place - she pulls so hard on her leash to get to the back and play! Her behavior really tells me she loves this place. I have been taking my puppy to the puppy socials for a couple of months now. I've seen her go from being very shy and nervous around other dogs, to now being incredibly social with good play manners. My puppy is so small that dog parks are not an option for her. The one time I took her to a dog park to socialize, she got trampled by a group of off leash dogs who were not being supervised by their owners. So I will be continuing to take her here to have supervised play in the puppy socials and then enroll her in daycare when she gets older. I appreciate that they always pair her with dogs who are an appropriate size and energy for her. My puppy loves her days at K9! I was scared trying to decided where to leave my puppy for daycare and boarding until I found Renee & crew at K9. They give my dog a full day of play and exercise and she comes home tired and happy. I have boarded my pup several times and Renee & her staff take care in making her stay happy & comfortable. This is a long over due review but we use to take our (1yr old at the time) Pitty here, until they basically told us it's "not worth it" unless we pay for THEIR TRAINING for his energy level! They pretty much kicked him out without actually telling us but more telling us what his visits will be like, Without their training, if we kept bringing him (kept crated due to his high energy for play) which is clearly not what we wanted for him. Mind you he was still a puppy and had a lot of energy for play but it sounded like the workers there couldn't handle him. It was heartbreaking to hear especially since the owner describes the basis of owning this location was due to having a similar experience as we have with them. Well, if the owner is reading this, it doesn't seem like your staff shares the same ideology. Unless this was a sales play all along to get people forced into your training programs. Either way, watch out if you have a high energy pup. We stopped coming here after that last interaction that left me so uneasy and upset. read more

Great place to leave my Vizsla Nellie for the day. For anyone that knows their breed they definitely need their exercise and she always is excited to go there and comes home exhausted from a full day of exercise. Daily pack walks, agility, treadmills and even a mini pool, it's quite the experience for the pups. This place was originally run by Canine Specialties and when they closed I was ecstatic to hear that they kept the same staff that Jose the previous owner had and the same concept under new ownership. I've never written a review before but thought this would be the perfect time. Our dog Taco is at home alone while we are at work and we feel bad that he has no stimulation or exercise and he has put on weight than is healthy for him. We drove past K9 Keep Fit and thought we would look them up online. What we saw is what we felt our dog needed. So I took a tour of the facility and felt this would be a great place for Taco. On his first day we were sent an email letting us know how Taco was doing. We were told he did well in the pack walk but was a bit hesitant to play with other dogs or get on the tread mill. He had a full day and was tired when he got home. We did notice the next day he had a ton more energy than usual. Although Taco had only been on one pack walk, The next day when I walked Taco he was amazing. He was like a different dog. Obviously a second day was scheduled. We had hopes that Taco would be more engaged. We were sent 3 videos. Taco in his pack walk, playing with another dog and walking on the tread mill. What a great feeling to see him more engaged than his first day. We appreciate there has been no pressure to buy a package, get training ect. We feel that the team really cares about the dogs in their care and that means allot to us. Thank you for making sure Taco is safe and having a great day. read more

Man This place is something else... let me tell you that to start. The way this business makes itself seem online isn't how they are on the phone and in person. I'm sure somethings were said about this already, but i gotta give my opinion too. I thought my dog was in good hands but my dog's safety and health were my immediate concern after trying this place. I don't know what goes on at this place, but I had to carry my dog up stairs for a month. No answers to how he got injured, a bunch of "your dog could of got hurt doing this". I don't want to know what "could have" happened, I want to know the reason. Were you watching my dog? Isn't my dog in your care? I don't want these what if conversations. I want facts, details, so I know what steps to take. Then I seen a response to a review that was a straight contradiction. Quoted straight from the owner: "Our staff supervises all play sessions, whether it's just two dogs or a social group. To suggest that we can't keep an eye on the dogs in our care is ridiculous; to suggest that a staff member said this is even more so. We have a daily limit of thirty-five dogs. Our staffing size is equal to facilities that take up to two to three times that many dogs a day. When this pup was with us, he was running and playing with another dog and we believe that's when his leg was injured." I have a couple questions about this. How can you say you have staff for two to three times the amount of dogs you have but not know how a dog got hurt? Then continue to say in full confidence "We believe that's when his leg was injured." Didn't you say you have enough staff for two to three times the amount of dogs you have? Thats a lot of staff to not know what happened, a lot of eyes to not see what happened either. What you believe happened isn't important, what really happened, is. Not to mention the fact that you said the customer was wrong and her claims were ridiculous. How is that so? Were you the employee who spoke to her on the phone? Or are you just speaking for the employee yourself because they represent you and your business? Did you see it happen yourself? Wouldn't you want answers as well if it were your dog? I get it, its your business and its completely ridiculous for someone who represents your business to make a mistake or not know how to handle this type of situation. WRONG, mistakes happen and accountability needs to be held. Once I read that response it just looked like someone trying to save face, especially when they don't have facts or even know how a dog got injured in the first place. It's sensitive, I understand. A dog wasn't properly taken care of, under YOUR care. That word is literally the main focus of your business. To care for dogs while the owner is away. Obviously it wasn't the case that day. The owner also mentioned this: "I followed up by phone repeatedly because I was curious to know the dog's outcome and wanted to offer support if I or my business could be of help." What were you going to do? You didn't have any answers for the incident to start with so I'm curious. Were you going to help pay for vet costs? If surgery was needed, would your business cover it because the dog got hurt under your care and in your establishment? If you couldn't help in the beginning with basic questions like "What happened to my Dog?" then how were you going to help after? I'm curious, because you make people sign waivers and its only for the very reason of protecting yourself and your business. What about the Dog tho? I thought there was love and care for them, but when stuff really goes down accountability isn't there? A lot of contradictions. Looks like the only people having to deal with the issues are the owners, even though it happened under your watch when they weren't around. To me a lot of things didn't add up. Thats the only thing that is ridiculous if you ask me. This experience bothered me to the point where now I don't know if I can trust any place with my dog, I'll second guess any dog daycare now because of K9 Keep Fit. It even gots me thinking into the future when I have kids and leave them at a daycare, because this experience will always be in the back of my head. Will people really take care of something or someone that isn't theirs? After a few months my dog is okay, but I'll forever share my experience of this place and how it was handled on all social media platforms and make sure people know what they're getting into before doing it. I'm sure all peoples experiences aren't the same, I just don't want anyone else to have this one. One last note, I find it funny how the owner refers to the customer as a "reviewer" and not someone who paid for services at her establishment like a customer. I wonder if thats strictly because the review wasn't in her favor. Well I guess you're right, because you've lost some customers and won't be getting them back. This is the third dog daycare in San Jose we've tried and it is by far the best. Your pup is looked after by a caring staff. Instead of your dog being stuck in indoor playpens all day - dogs will go on daily pack walks, treadmill runs, bike rides, and swimming! I'd also like to say that during the recent HOT labor day weekend we had our dog in boarding with K Keep Fit. It was so unusually hot, Renee made the decision to take the 3 dogs that were in boarding to her home to look out for their safety in the heat. She did an awesome job keeping us informed and sending us photos of our dogs while they were enjoying a sleepover! read more

We adopted a dog during Covid and wanted to find a place that we could take our new pup to get some socializing. We tried two places and the other was fine but, K9 Keep Fit seemed to be better for our new dog. It seems to be more structured which provides a degree of training while absolutely tiring our dog out. Being new to us, the quick run down of his day when we pick him up really helps us understand our new dog better. They also seem to really work at getting compatible dogs to play together, not just by size. I should also mention the staff has been very friendly. read more
