Growing up in Richmond California, safe spaces were limited. Finding spaces not just for celebration but for wellness that are for us and by us, means my city is moving in the direction I prayed it one day would. Studio V'Essence hosted a baby shower this past weekend that I had the pleasure of providing decor for. As a new event planner and designer, each set up becomes trial and error for me. Went to see Gigi here at her new chair. Knowing her amazing work this small detour from ulta was well worth it! I went in for a cut and color change from black to bright red. I've never been able to achieve my ideal color in one shot before. Stylists have always had me come back two, three, even four times to get my hair to a level or shade near what i want. Gigi is not only able to give me exactly what color I want in one try but is also conscious of me wanting to be able to keep my natural curls intact. I would recommend giving yourself some extra time to look for decent parking otherwise I love seeing her in a more cozy and comfortable environment! read more

I got my brows Microbladed and Ombre shaded. My brows were very thin, and for several years I would use pencils to draw them on and fill them in. With age, that is becoming increasingly harder to do. I have always wanted to get something more permanent, but I have seen how tattoos fade over time. I am happy that this service is semi-permanent because I can manage the upkeep as needed. I try to often support black-owned businesses, so in my search, I came across Ms. Cherry's information, so I decided to reach out. From the initial contact, I felt immediately warmed and welcomed. So I've been going to Dejah to get my hair done (weaves, braids, locs retwisted)and Cherry for brows and lashes since forever. FINALLY my prayers have been answered. I came there with my mother & she recently had a surgery so I escorted her in and waited with her due to her medical condition. I had my daughter with me as she sat along next to me I overheard the owner speaking with my mother about me and my daughter not being able to be in the salon while my handicapped mother was being serviced.
