Location: 300m from train station, even closer from the bus terminal. If you arrive by air (as we did), the 10-min bus ride (1.50 euro) will bring you on the Piazza. Setup: I believe they have only 6 rooms, 3rd floor without elevator. Hosts live on premises, and you can't ask for better and more friendly hosts than Irene and Simone. They speak English, they really want to make your stay comfortable, they serve extremely good breakfasts (our was included in the room rate). Don't hesitate to ask them for any advice about your trip: they know the stuff and they are happy to help. Rooms: modern, convenient and unusually spacy. Bathrooms are bigger than most in US, I would say. We stayed two nights and that was super start for our vacation. Hope you'll like it, too.

Everything was spotlessly clean and convenient, with motion-activated lights. The staff was lovely and helpful and breakfast in the communal area was great. Don't be put off by the staircase you have to climb to get there; this is a wonderful spot. We would absolutely stay again and hope to come back to Lucca.

B&B Antica Corte dei Principi…read more The main reason we chose this B&B for our 3 nights is Lucca was the character. It is an old building, not sure how old, but it almost has a medieval feel. That comes with some things that other travelers may not like -- the walls are a bit thin, the stairway is narrow and a little steep, and the rooms and bathrooms are a little small. Though it may be small, this little place and the owner have a lot of charm. The owner was very sweet. She apologized over and over for her English, but we had no problems understanding her and thought it was great (definitely better than our Italian). She provided a map, as well as recommendations for eating and walking. If you stay here, do yourself a favor and pay attention to this part. All of her recommendations were great. She also provided a decent Italian breakfast, with juices, coffee drinks, pastries, yogurts, fruits, etc. You also can't beat this location. Although it could be a noisy at night (you could occasionally hear people walking on the street below) and it is a little hard to find, this hotel is right in the heart of Lucca, and probably one of the nicer spots to stay inside the walls. This is one of the cities in Italy that we will definitely include on our next trip!

Situated in an olive grove, and vineyard, the property owners live on the property and are outstanding hosts. They give personal tours of the vineyard as well as their personal home. Cardinale, can sleep at least 10 people comfortably. It has modern conveniences, such as heat, wifi, and non heated pool. There is a pergola as well as a small guest cottage in the back. The kitchen, as most country kitchens are in Italy, simple. It does have an wood fired pizza oven (which we used) which is an exciting bonus. Three floors, is clean, has daily housekeeping, and as much wine and olive oil that you and the other guests can use during your stay. Located just on the outskirts of Lucca, and just down the road is the leaning tower of Pisa. We rented this villa through the US company, Doorways Unlimited. We can not wait to return again!

What makes this hotel a true stand out is its staff. They took care of my family of nine, we travelled with my parents and my aunt. They really went out of their way to make are stay memorable and a want to return. Particular staff, Stephanie & Giada, made all of our beach reservations and bikes for all. Called taxis, pointed us in the right direction and became our surrogate family! Stephanie lent her car to get us to the laundry mat one day when taxis were scarce!
