When you step into this piazza, I feel like you get a sense of the Holy Spirit. I mean, how can you not when you are so close to the Vatican? There's a peaceful atmosphere here.

The fountain sits embedded into the facade of a building, creating a stage like setting where the architecture and water structure feel tightly integrated into the urban environment. The fountain itself is highly detailed, with layered stone figures and strong water movement that draws attention immediately toward the center. The viewing area is limited by surrounding barriers and the narrow square, which creates a constant flow of people shifting positions to get a better view or photo. I found myself squeezing between groups just to find a clear sightline. The experience changes depending on timing and access. At busier times, like when I visited, the space felt compressed with limited room to pause directly in front of the fountain. There is also a regulated lower viewing area that requires a small entry fee. I decided to pay it, and that brought me closer to the base of the fountain, changing the perspective of the sculptures and water completely. From down there, the details in the stonework and the force of the water felt much more immediate. Early or late visits shift the atmosphere noticeably. I imagine with fewer people, the fountain would allow for a quieter, more reflective view of the structure.

The square is crowned by the Fountain of the Naiads where bronze nymphs dance in a mist of Roman legend. Michelangelo's hand lingers in the basilica walls nearby. This nearby realm of order, elegance and wide Roman boulevards is a nice segue way. Not far, Via Nazionale offers decent cafés and a true sense of the Eternal City's rhythm. For those arriving travel weary, it is a graceful entrance to a Roman adventure. And as they say in Rome, "When in doubt follow the guy yelling on a Vespa, he's either late for espresso or leading you to something historic." Either way, you're in for an experience. LOLZSIES!

The towering marble column in Piazza Colonna is packed with intricate carvings detailing the emperor's military campaigns. It's like a 2nd-century novel spiraling to the sky. No crowds. It tells the story of the Marcomannic wars from 172 to 175. The column stands in the center of Piazza Colonna and at night, it is beautifully lit. I did not have the opportunity to return during the daytime but was still able to appreciate the majesty and craftsmanship of the column that is now close to 2000 years old. Amazing. It was originally built as Emperor Hadrian's mausoleum nearly 2,000 years ago, the castle later became a fortress, a papal refuge, a prison, and eventually a museum.. What makes Castel Sant'Angelo especially memorable is the atmosphere. The thick stone walls, hidden passageways, and spiral ramps. The angel statue atop the castle gives the entire site a dramatic, almost theatrical presence.

Architecture is amazing, standing in the presence of this beauty is breathtaking Castel Sant'Angelo, also known as Mausoleum of Hadrian, is a towering rotunda in Parco Adriano, Rome, Italy. It was initially commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. The popes later used the building as a fortress and castle, and it is now a museum.

The Spanish Steps are absolutely breathtaking!!…read more The Spanish Steps connect the Piazza di Spagna below with the stunning Trinità dei Monti church above. The Trinità dei Monti is worth a visit when you're here, it's full of history, artwork and phenomenal statues. The area around the Spanish Steps are chock full of fabulous restaurants and high end shops. The views from the top after climbing the 135 steps are glorious. You can see the Spanish embassy in the square below from the terraces above. We ate at a local Trattoria that did not disappoint. It has became a cultural hub for artists, writers and royalty. A luxury shopping landmark, and a quintessential symbol of Roman glamour, culture, and social life. I've been before and will come back. Such a sight to see and I LOVE Italy!!

Fortunately, in spite of the tourists, there was some room to walk on the stairs although it would be nicer if people moved to the side instead of just stopping and standing on the stairs or in the middle of a landing. Other than saying you climbed the steps, I wasn't sure of the big attraction. The view from the top was okay but not a panoramic view of the city. Go to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Vittoriano monument for a fantastic view of Rome. Much higher climb but it is also offers a free view from the balconies including the Colosseum.

Amazing world renown museum with beautiful and historical works of art, sculptures, paintings,…read moreartifacts and on and on with the Sisteen Chapel being the crown jewel of what this museum holds. Beauty aside, the history and the story behind these works of art is amazing and very educational where my favorite was the Egyptian wing with its well preserved mummies and artifacts. Relative to entrance, tickets should be purchased on line with a pre determined entry time versus standing in the long slow lines when buying on site. Also, be prepared for huge crowds during peak summer months where the large slow moving guided tourist groups making walking through the museum difficult to say the least as they block and slow the movement traveling through the museum. Be warned, your patience will be tried during this time. Crowds aside, seeing this museum is a must visit while in Rome especially if it is your first time to this wonderful city.

There is a door at the far back right corner (facing back of the chapel) that leads directly to St Peter's Basilica, which skips the security lines. It is only for tours but extremely worth attempting to blend in with a tour group to save the 20 minute walk to the basilica and the consequent security lines. You can reenter the museum after visiting the Sistine Chapel.
