I work close by this place so I eat here pretty often. I'm from Monterrey, so I know GOOD barbacoa. They used to be soooo good, but lowkey they're falling off. Their barbacoa doesn't taste good anymore...it tastes like they microwaved that shit instead of making it fresh, same with their tortillas. And the limes?? Dry asf. Not a single drop of juice came out. Like wtf, how is that even possible?? Just disappointed. Stopped by for the first time there for a breakfast burrito. Had the egg, chorizo and cheese. I wasn't sure if one would be enough but the employee assured me it would be. And she was was right. My husband and I love ordering from here. We've seen a few different people take our order at the counter and they're all so nice! We usually get 1 lb of barbacoa and sometimes some rice and beans on the side. It's always delicious and reasonably priced. We also love the green and red salsas. I was looking for a place where they served Machaca. For some reason I couldn't find it on other restaurants. My search lead me to this place. I'm not sure if the signage says that it is "Estilo Casero" or home cooking, But this is exactly what it is. I've always liked places where it seems that you're having somebody else's mom cook for you. The Machaca was delicious I added rice to my plate since it only comes with the egg, beans and tortillas. Well don't think I be back. Ordered a breakfast burrito with chorizo but they gave me beacon instead. Went to go tell them they gave the wrong burrito didn't order this kind. The guy charged me again for the right burrito. So paid for a first wrong burrito and paid for the second for the right burrito. So 17 dollars for the one I wanted. OMG! I've just found my new Mexican food restaurant!! I admit, I was skeptical when my wife first pointed it out on Yelp. Today, we had an opportunity to stop in. The location clean, but not fancy. Reminded me of a neighborhood joint with possibilities. When we were greeted at the counter by a friendly (perhaps owner?) cashier who was informative and enthusiastic, I began to think things were looking up? We started with guacamole which was just a little different, but on a par with my wife's for taste and quality. The chips that came with it seemed made in-house and were just right as far as thickness, salt and crunchiness. We both ended up getting enchiladas ... mine with the red sauce and her's with green. Both were delicious and, though my wife found the green sauce a little too spicy for her particular taste, I deemed my red sauce EXCELLENT. I find some place's red sauce to be too bitter, but not here. It was smooth and excitingly spicy. The shredded meat was tender, succulent, and (perhaps) a little spicy on its own. But the tortilla that wrapped them ... there were 4 ... was world class ... tasty and the chew was tender, yet they were firm enough to hold everything together in perfect harmony. My wife ended up asking for some additional sour cream to tone her green sauce enchiladas down, just a notch. The requisite refried beans and rice rounded out our plates and we agreed both sides were way above average. Hell ... even the simple lettuce and tomato salad was good. So ... we're excited to try Villa Monterrey Restaurant agin, sometime in the near future. I've got my eye on the Tacos al Pastor. Hummm ... I wonder if tomorrow would be too soon ... read more

I always get the cali style carne asada fries, im from cali so their not REAL cali fries tbh but not bad, they do ration their food, i've noticed they barely put any meat and i even moat extra for meat and it will still be the same quantity. When I go to Mexican restaurants I normally ask for their chicken enchilada plate to measure how tasty everything else might be. If a restaurant can't master the flavoring for chicken enchiladas they're no good to me. This place exceeded my expectations!! The problem I've run across at other places is dry chicken inside the enchilada. Villa Monterey's enchiladas have chicken inside that is moist and beautiful in flavor.
