I booked a reservation for 3 nights at Villa Cascais, and received a confirmation from the reception desk, which included their cancellation policy "If you need to cancel or modify your reservation, please do so at least 7 days before your scheduled arrival". With 34 days notice, I emailed the hotel to let them know I needed to cancel. I did not hear back from them, so proceeded to call the hotel with 33 days notice. The receptionist at the hotel verified that she had cancelled the reservation over the phone. I made alternative non-refundable plans to visit a different city, then received an email stating that my reservation was non-refundable, and that the original email from the hotel stating the 7 day cancellation policy, plus the telephone cancellation, were both "regrettably made by (their) human error". They claim that they sent a second email that "may be in my spam folder". I would not have made an alternate plan, had their policies been aligned. It is absolutely unacceptable that this hotel is not owning up to their two human errors. read more
