This place is the best!!! My daughter has been dancing here for almost 4 years and has loved it. My 4 year old son also took the younger kids class and couldn't get enough. The new teachers are a great addition. My daughter especially loves Ms Carolyn. New perspectives and experiences. Some great memories attending this studio from four years old until high school. I really appreciated the lessons I learned from this studio and has helped made me who I today. I recently gave back my recital costumes to the studio since they had been sitting around for a long time. I loved how Toni and Denise worked with the students at the studio and helped make them better students and amazing dancers. I would recommend this studio. You will get a lot out of what you are taught, especially since the studio is big on technique, and you grow close to the people there. Working hard is valued, especially for exams and recitals, but they also allowed us to have fun too and be a family. Thank you VDA for everything! I've been taking the Wednesday night adult class for one year now- I really value the classes here. For those who are newer to ballet, its a very challenging workout, and very good for the soul. I studied ballet off and on from ages 12-22 and am now 36. Most of the participants have a background in dance but vary in age. Its a typical 30 minute barre (plies, tendu's rond de jambe's/fondue's, grande battements) then center barre, jumpings, a cheographed floor routine and can end in turns (pique's or pirouettes). We usually have a stretch or adage. There are often people that "drop in" for a class or a few classes but there have been a few core people that have stayed. Claire usually teaches, and I really love her. She's younger, encouraging and supportive. She's a trained dancer, and actually studied at VDA! She knows how each of us learn and move and gives feedback accordingly. Sometimes Toni will teach class, and her classes have been a great challenge- in a good way =) Essentially, I have found my favorite workout- not only because the dancer in me feels so good after a class, but also because its a great workout. I would recommend this class to people (male or female) that have working knowledge of ballet. Perhaps not beginners, because I've witnessed that they have struggled (it can be a lot to learn, especially floor barre as it can be fast paced). But that shouldn't discourage new people with a strong desire to take class, I think they should perhaps come try or watch and see. read more

I love Village Dance Arts. I just totally, sincerely, love, LOVE them! I love how they treat the students - gently, with respect. I love how they expect the students to be there to dance, also. They give respect, they get respect. It's formal and serious dance instruction, but it's not harsh. It's real. Somehow, Ms Toni Carrion has found a balance, and her support staff has, also. They have their expectations, but they hold themselves to the same standards they expect from their students (and VERY age appropriate expectations, I must add). Basically, they appear to follow the one rule we have at home - treat others the way you want to be treated. I like that...and it shows with the students. I can't say enough good things about this place! I have met all of the teachers - in fact, "Miss Toni" was *my* instructor for a short while (I didn't live in CA often as a child, I was mainly in VA, so I missed out on this ballet/dance school for the most part)! My daughter has had Miss "Flower" (Florencia Abergel) and Miss Clair (Claire Van Ryswyk) and soon will have Miss Denise (Denise Donovan). She has had only a few minutes of Ms Carrion's instruction, but loved it. My daughter will be adding tap, along with my son, in just a week or so, and that will be Miss Denise. So far, I sense her as earthy, fun, serious and...like the rest...GOOD! Like, "Ghoooooood....." "iykwim" (if you know what I mean, lol ;) ) They also have adult classes there in ballet and tap, and I've been working on gettin' my bum in there, but my health issues, combined with money and time, have slowed me down...but the first class is free I was told, so it's gonna be SO WORTH IT! Yes! Gonna get my dance on again...lol...No, really, I am! So here's the final deal - we live 20 miles away, but we go here. My child, soon to be children, feel good being here. The recital was fantastic...so professional, and NOT uptight. These teachers are so well trained, so well educated and well versed in dance...it's worth the drive, worth the cost (which, by the way is NOT huge - slightly more than the cost of Parks and Recreation, really)...it's just worth it, period. read more

I've been looking for a dance studio in Claremont that offers adult ballet classes. I love this dance studio and the staff!

I enrolled my daughter here when she was three or four hoping she would grow to love ballet. She then decided she wanted to explore other things. We are back now almost 6 years later and she is taking their jr hip hop class which she loves and she now wants to pick up ballet again. The greatest thing is that the teachers still remembered her and it feels like home here. The girls all grow up together in this quaint little studio. It truly is a wonderful thing to be apart of. read more

My daughter (8 yo) and I both attend VDA. We love the teachers (especially Ms. Denise!!) and the atmosphere is fantastic. Before starting, I worried about putting my daughter in ballet as sometimes dance studios have a reputation for creating negative body images in young girls. VDA is an incredibly positive place, and my daughter is only gaining confidence through her dancing there. I have taken the adult tap class for a few years, and it is great. The teachers are fun, and the group of students is a wide mix from just beginning to quite experienced. Everyone is able to get something out of the class. Thanks for all that you do! read more

I currently study dance here and I love it! They have wide variety of dance styles, though they don't have many ethnic styles. No salsa, hawaiian, hip hop, or flamingo. they strictly teach ballet beginning to teen and even have adult classes. they also teach jazz, tap, modern, Pilates. all classes are very enjoyable. the teachers are also highly trained. yearly they hold dance recitals. these are usually held at citrus college. they last up to two hours and are very fun. I have been in about six and love the experience. production is quite nice from the beautiful costumes to stage designs. Recently they have been doing their productions based on movies like cinderella, and pinochio, and have other themes like last years by the beautiful sea, which was nice concept from the 1940's movie some like it hot. This year are recital will be based on the wedding procession of the rag doll and broom handle. Prices for classes can get expensive but it all depends on how many classes you take so think about the classes you want to take wisely. They have classes all through the week except Sundays. The length of times for classes usually depend on age . Right now my classes are an hour in a half for ballet and 30 minutes for pointe classes. For jazz i am in advanced and it is an hour long. Classes that are besides ballet are usually an hour. they have two studios nice location. you are in walking distances to many restraints. The studios aren't huge but they're big. During the summer they hold a dance camp that lasts 5 days. You get the basic teaching of ballet jazz modern and tap. you also do a dance activity in the pool. you also get to learn how to taiko drum. pretty exciting. any way next year they are thinking about doing a salsa class but no guarantees anyway overall great studio. read more
