(Musical Theater 1, Musical Theater 2, tap 1, tap/ballet , jazz and HipHop)He went from a boy with anxiety to this confident performer. He was in his second musical Mary Poppins this past weekend. To see him perform with the biggest smile made me cry. He was confident and was so excited about the show. The show was AMAZING!!!!!!!!It's been great watching not just my son but many of the cast members just grow in theater. Thank You Mr.Frank and Mrs.Yesenia for bringing out the best in my son. He himself thanked them after the show for teaching him the songs and the choreography. All his teachers are all wonderful , Mrs.Megan , Miss. Larissa, Miss. Jenna, Miss. Jack , thank you ALL for not giving up on my son. A special shout out to Miss. Jack. Andrew wanted to try tap. Since the class has been practicing for a few months Andrew felt discouraged since they were already learning the song that they will be performing on the summer showcase. After trying the class he didn't want to continue since he was just starting and felt lost. Miss Jack told him she sees his talent and he can do it. She told him to come back the next week and try again. He tried again and he felt that he couldn't do it. Miss.Jack told him to think about it , she believes in him, if he still don't feel comfortable he can enroll after the summer showcase and start from the beginning. She was very sweet to him. On our way home he decided he wanted to continue!!! His words " mom , Miss.Jack believes in me. I want to take her class , I can do it " He's doing amazing. She knew how much he did want to take her class and encouraged him. I can't wait to see him on stage in June for the summer showcase. I also want to give a shout out to the parent volunteers.They're very helpful, it was so nice to hear from them how Andrew has grown so much in theater. Another shout out to Kyle , the front receptionist for being helpful and answering my million questions haha. Us parents don't just cheer for our kids we cheer for all the kids. I am thankful I found Valverde. They have help mold my son in this confident , happy , positive young performer. Can't wait to see him continue growing in theater !! She also invited us in to see a class that was already in session to give us a preview of what we could expect. Our daughter's class that day consisted of only two other dancers which in all honesty was perfect for a trial, her instructor was able to really work with her and get to know her personally. She was so sweet and caring to our daughter. We could not be happier!!! After class we went in and introduced ourselves to her and asked her opinion on how the trial went she had all positive comments and invited us to trial her Saturday class because she felt it would be a better fit for our daughter. That to me was everything!!! She showed genuine interest in our daughter's success with the studio!!! We never felt pressured to sign a contract or pay to save a spot and that is what makes this place a true Gem!! They are very true to there advertised "family environment" all staff was beyond kind and sweet to my Mimi dancer and my little 7 month cheering on his sister. Overall, the poor recent reviews hold true. The environment does not foster relationship building with students nor parents. I had my 8-year old daughter there briefly during Nutcracker season. I expected the performance to be grand being hosted at the Laugh factory and all to say it was extremely disappointing show - not due to students abilities but clear reflection on academy's skill set to develop and choreograph. On top of disappointing show, there was very little communication and engagement with staff and parents as I've experienced with other academies. When it was time to enroll in new semester, I was informed my daughter would be only allowed to do 1 class a week and not engage in that season performance due to bad behavior. When I asked for specific examples, I was given generic statements that kids were bitting and hitting during Nutcracker but nothing specific to my child. As a parent, I try to not assume my child is the best behaved. Of course I was shocked to hear this feedback, especially since I made it a point to ask each night after practices how my daughter did and was never informed of such egregious behavior. When I reached out to Gabby to request a meeting to discuss further and find a solution based approach that would help my child grow not hinder her, I was given the run around. My daughter had cried and not enjoyed dancing while she was at this school because she stated the teachers were mean and did not listen to her. I initially assumed her feelings were just nervousness and acclimating to new things and tried to encourage her to just give it time. Even before shutting down the feedback of the poor behaviors Gabby stated, I asked her school teachers, soccer coach and STEM teacher who've known her since kindergarten if she's ever showed that behavior and her teachers were shocked to hear that is something she would do. I attempted to advocate, and was willing to pay extra, for my daughter to have additional classes to help her improve as she was also not moved up to the next level. After not receiving responses and deflection from Gabby, we decided to enroll in a different studio better equipped at understanding, and developing, the characteristics, personalities and abilities of their students. My daughter is now at a better quality academy that placed her in a higher level upon her first assessment, has deemed her a leader in her class, and has helped re-build her confidence and love in ballet! Again, this review is not written lightly. I am not a professional dancer. I am just a mom who wanted a good community and dance home for my daughter. A Terre School of Dance, for us, was not that.

My daughter left Tammy's studio two years ago for a bigger pond. In large part due to Tammy's work with Abby and the professionalism Tammy brings to her work and expects from her students, Abby was accepted to study voice at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State Long Beach. BCCM is the 5th ranked conservatory in the United States and, just last weekend, won the 2016 Choir of the World competition at Llangollen Eisteddfod, Wales. I couldn't be more proud. The thing is that Tammy had two students audition for BCCM that year. Both were accepted. The year before that she had a student apply for a prestigious music program. She was accepted. The year after Abby she had two students apply with wonderful music programs. Both were accepted. It's impossible to miss the pattern here. Tammy's students excel, plain and simple. I've sat in on a few of Abby's sessions with Tammy over the years. There is no iron fist here. Tammy's tools are love and excellence. She truly loves what she does and she loves her students. They love her in return. As Abby moves into her junior year and contemplates grad school and the opera program I wonder where she'll wind up. One thing I do know - she owes Tammy a huge debt for helping her get there.
