Went before the snow and deep freeze Sat. (Dec13) It was busy with holiday shoppers. I was a bit taken aback and how expensive it was for a thrift store. They do have a very extensive amount of clothes. They had a few designer items and they were priced 50+. Lots of UGG boots for $60, even one heavily salt stained for $30. Another thing that I didn't care for was that if you get any store discounted items they make you scan a QR code which signs you up by email to be on their mailing list. The prices are insanely high! T-shirts between 10 and $15. Nothing special about them just used T-shirts. The only thing I can figure is because they run those 50% off sales often they figure that it's more of a value at 5 to 7 dollars but I personally think that's still too high NFL jerseys are priced between 30 and $100 each and again these are used jerseys some of them even have stains on them I would not call this a discount or thrift. I'm not even sure what to call it. Also, the racks are either a little bit too high or too low so you either are reaching up or bending down why not just get one rack that goes at high-level? Not a comfortable experience and again bargains are going to be hard to find. read more

There was an ad on Facebook to come in and get $10 off a $20 purchase from August 19 to August 25, 2024. I spent $24 before tax and they refused to hive the disvount claiming the coupon was one day only. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!! The woman I asked said to show her the ad when I was at the checkout. I did and another woman working there said no, it was one day only, so the first worker refused me the discount. There were other customers who showed the same ad, saying the same dates, and they still insisted it was a one day only sale. I'm going to stick to Honest thrift shops not ones that lure you in to fool you! read more

(3-4 hrs) ... obviously U should keep UR word & give all of the customers that U know deserve the discount- THE DISCOUNT. Lame and apparently extremely greedy. I was SO excited while visiting near the area to see that there was a VDO. Chicago has VDO's and they are amazing, so I am no stranger to this store. However, does this specific store know what "discount" means? Certainty not! $14 Apt. 9 tops, $35 used target brand boots, $20 faded nike jackets... you get the gist. 90% of the store is clothes and shoes, so hopefully that's why you came. Employee rang my four items up wrong & only corrected it because I told them what the color of the day was. it was an hour before closing... had he been ringing people up all day wrong? Did he even care? No apology, just held up the line to rering it all the correct way. Won't be back, even if in the area. read more

This place is overwhelming.. completely disorganized and some of the items are way over priced. It's very loud and bright in the store

I am a paying customer. My family shops here multiple times a week. Love shopping here. But I am very disappointed I was refused the restroom here. A staff member refused and then I even spoke to a "manager" and explained my bladder disease and they still refused. She wouldn't even look at me just kept telling me no. I had to frantically find another store to let me use the restroom. I would I have never made it home in time without peeing my pants. read more

I make my way to Village Discount every now and then. The highlights are clothing, shoes, and accessories. There is a household and electronics section up top but don't expect much. Also a jewelry and "finer" goods section behind the counter. Wallets in bins at the checkout. Some books, toys, and a blanket/comforter aisle. Great men's section. The store is often very crowded, noisy, smelly, and very dusty. Take your allergy meds because you'll be in here for hours trying to navigate all the aisles if you're shopping seriously. It's worth it for brand new clothing and accessories though. Sundays and Mondays are 75¢ on select color tags. 20% off Tuesdays for seniors. Thursdays half-price on a select color tag. Holiday sales. They also publish coupons every now and then in the DDN. They take cash or credit card with a driver's license only. The sigs/face/name have to match exactly. Trust me, do not forget your license if using a cc. You will be sol. If you use a wheelchair you will have to go in through the manual exit doors which are very hard to open. The entrance is blocked by a turn counter. The picture of the Dayton store on their Web site is not right, but go to the site to sign up for sale newsletters. read more

Good selection, you can definitely find stuff here. Worth it to visit. There were a lot of people when I visited, so this place is starting to become more popular. If you want cheap but decent clothes, for a better shopping experience, it is probably best to go either when it opens or as it closes. Also bring a friend because since there are so many items it can be hard to decide what to get. They have mirrors, but no fitting rooms. read more

This place has some very nice women's clothing.....however, no fitting rooms, no returns. I've walked away from some nice stuff because I can't try on and make sure it fits. Nothing says "we don't trust our customers to not steal from us" like no fitting rooms. read more

Ok, let's be honest... This is a thrift store and let's leave it at that. I've never noticed any smelly odors and the interior of the building (Floor, etc...) could be upgraded or cleaned up but it's a thrift store... Here is the coolest thing about VDO. You walk in and there is a sign hanging. Two colors are displayed. Anything with that color tag is 50% off. If you specifically seek out these items you can save tremendously. I've had trips where I've left with a few dress shirts and a few other things and don't even break $10. I'd also like to add that VDO's prices are more fair than Goodwill, St. Vincent Depaul and other thrift stores. Some of those places are charging $4 for beat up Nascar shirts with mustard stains. At VDO you won't see that kind of gouging and there is a good enough selection that you'll find something. This makes it a perfect place to search for clothes for costumes or something that is going to get worn once or twice when you're painting or getting dirty. Ladies, as I mention below you will love the selection and variety of clothes. There are so many nice, name brand items there for such a small price. VDO is about the size of a small grocery store. Unfortunately over the years the women's section has grown and grown and the men have been really bullied down to two or three aisles at this point. They have boys and girls clothing sections as well and sell a variety of otheritems (plates, cups, jewelry, purses, etc...). In the women's section there is a "seasonal" area. Great place to find ugly xmas sweaters and halloween or st. patty's gear. As far as the men's section goes I typically really only go to get dress shirts. You can find a nice assortment or button up shirts that are gently used, still look perfect and would look great for a night out on the town. They do have some fancier items that will have the electronic tag dealies that go off if you try to steal them. These are typically name brand items that are NWT. They items are still reasonably priced and would be somewhere around like $5 to $15. I will say that the staff is typically foreign and the customer base can appear kind of skeezy. (It is a thrift store, remember?) But everyone has always been polite or minded themselves when I've been so it hasn't been an issue. I recommend VDO to just about anyone. I've been going to this thrift shop since I was a little kid (my mom dragged me and I hated going). As an adult I moved to NY state and whenever I visited Dayton, I made a point of going to this thrift shop. Now that I'm in Cincinnati, I STILL go about once a month. This thrift shop is the best I've been to, for a couple of reasons. #1: cheap QUALITY clothes. When I was in NY I would go to Goodwill, and a decent (name brand, not stained, in great condition) kids shirt would cost $3-4. At VDO I can get a name brand new-looking kids shirt for $0.90-$1.50. #2: Huge selection. I shop for my husband, myself, and our 4 kids. I can buy Van Heusen, banana republic, express (for husband), Express, lucky, gap, limited, etc (for me), and gymboree, gap, carters, circo, osh kosh b'gosh (for the kids), leaving the store with 2 giant (trash bag sized) bags and spend less than $50. One pair of jeans could cost that at the mall. Now I do have to say, they have started doing something next in the past few years that I can't stand: they sell cheap badly made new clothing in among the used clothing. Most of it seems to be in the juniors section, but it irritates me whenever I think I'm grabbing a used shirt and it has a new tag on it. I don't go to VDO to spend $15 on a crappy shirt. Despite the "new merchandise" issue I have with them, I still think it's totally worth the 1+ hr drive. read more

I love going here. Yes its cramped and you will here a lot of customers complain about pricing but hey your getting an abercrombie shirt for $4? What's there to complain about. They have a wide selection of name brand closes for a good price. Also they have 2 colors a week that are 50% off. During the holidays they also have certain days 50% off everything in the store. I can go get me and my children a whole new (new to me) wardrobe under $50. If you have the time there are aisle upon aisles to look through. If you look through them one at a time you can get awesome deals! read more

If you looking for a place to find good clothes on the cheap. This is one of those placed worth heading to. If you can't stand the site, smell, and set up of a dump yard, don't go here. My in-laws call this place the 'Honey Hole', because you get name brand clothes for $2 (you have to do a little digging), compared to the original $30 it once was. NICE! The draw back is, this place needs a bigger store as it seems so third world in that everything is stacked up on each other and the isle cant fit more then one shopping cart at a time which really sucks for anyone wishing to just walk through the isle. Also, don't go on a Saturday either, this place was packed, and the B.O. was enough that I had to left after 30 minutes. I have a love/hate relationship with this store. I've gotten some nice clothes there at great prices.... but the store is very crowded (good luck getting two carts past each other in the aisles) and the employees are consistently rude. I always get the feeling that the employees would rather be anywhere but there, and we customers are annoyances to them. The clothes are marked with color coded tags, and two colors are half priced each day. If you join their text list you'll get weekly texts with sale alerts and sometimes coupons. I venture there a couple of times a year, and always come away with several nice items, but I'd go more often if the atmosphere of the place improved. read more

One of the largest thrift stores in the area and if you have time to look through every item for your size then it's pretty decent! They do have a huge selection, mainly clothes not so much of the household type stuff here and that's ok! A few issues that I have with the Village Discount Outlet: #1 it's organized by type of clothing (like men's pants) which is fine and then by color not size! So, if you're looking for a certain size be prepared to look through everything they have in a certain color, I'm assuming this is for ease of stocking on their part, it only frustrates me into giving up usually. #2 some of their prices are way too high for a thrift store, I understand that this place is "for profit" unlike salvation army, goodwill, etc but some of the things are like almost full retail! They do have half price sales every day, just look at the color of the tags to see what it is, an even better deal! Not a bad place to search for decent clothes at a good price, I hate buying clothes new and wasting money, this is one of the two thrift stores in the area that's worth going to at all. read more

Not really "thrift store" type of clothes, which can be good or bad. I like vintage things, something unique, or one of a kind pieces. This was a lot- (I mean A LOT because this place is huge!)- of new, cheaply made clothes with tags attached. So, discount outlet is a good name. I felt that some of the prices were high, considering the environment (cramped aisles, over packed racks, and women trying on clothes in the aisles!) 12.99 for a cotton skirt, and they have 10 more just like it... So, I was excited going in,but more excited to leave. read more

I just left the store; I was going to buy a pair of jeans. However, when I got to the register the lady took the pair of pants I was going to buy and stated "not for sale". I said "what?" The cashier then says "loose tag, store policy, no sale". I asked her where in the store it says that, the cashier just points to the air behind her. So I started reading all signs I could see outloud, none stated what she had just said. So I asked to speak to a manager. She stated she was a manager. And so I iasked her to show me the policy please, on where this says loose tag. Then she actually calls a manager to the register with her. So the manager gets to the register with the cashier tonight, then they spoke in a different language(i couldnt understand). The manager then says "these are not for sale, come back tomorrow when they are priced correctly" i then stated, "ma'am, whatever price you are going to price these i will pay. My dad passed and his viewing is tomorrow." She then proceeds to say come back tomorrow. I pleaded with the manager while the cashier rolled her eyes. And then the manager says "25$" after i had offer to pay 20$. Then i said well since it has the green tag and plastic green through the pants would it then be 50% off since the green&yellow tags are discounted today?" The manager then ripped out the green tag and said "it was never a green tag, these are no longer for sale". I have never had an experience like this at any thrift store or any store to be honest. I love this place, but they do need to organize it better. They need to organize by size more t than type and color. And they need to do the shoes like they do at Valley Thrift, shelves on top of the racks organized by size. They currently just throw the shoes into open cubbies and shelves all over, good luck! This is my favorite thrift store! There are so many trendy pieces and name brands for a really good price and they have lots of deals throughout the week. Everyday they have 2 colors they give 50% off on, 20% off senior and student discounts on Sundays, days where a select color is only $1, "Early Bird Specials" on Saturday mornings which give you 50% off on certain items, like all sweaters or pants, and they give out many coupons like $10 off $20. Store is very organized as well, and with covid all staff wear masks. I love it here! read more

This isn't a typical thrift shop, it's a for profit with an odd mix of used and really cheap (low quality) new things. Mostly clothes, really small selection of housewares. Everything is sorted by type and color, not size. This means you would have to go through every single item. Mostly junk brands, I dug and only found 1 decent shirt. The prices are pretty high for a thrift shop, And only decent if it's the half price tag color of the day. The aisles are small and crowded and the people shopping were rude. Not very stroller accessible. You have to go through 2 doors to get inside and then once inside you can only move a few feet because it's all gated in & the only way to get inside to shop is through a 1 person turnstile gate which a stroller can't fit in. There is another part of the gate you can take a stroller through, but it has a pad lock on it. There is a huge sign at the entry that says all strollers & big bags must be taken to the customer service desk to be checked. I stood in the entry trying to flag down a staff member to figure out how to get in, but didn't see anyone. Luckily another customer saw that the pad lock wasn't locked so she helped me get in. When I did get to the desk to ask about checking my stroller the employee said, "oh no, you're fine". Seems like a lot of hassle for nothing. I think the store has good deals at times, but no dressing rooms. Isle ways are tight, difficult to maneuver a stroller or cart. You can't take the carts outside so if you buy large items or have a lot an employee is called to the front to help you to your car. read more

This is a pretty smelly thrift store so it can be a grody shopping experience. I don't come here very often,but when I do it's normally only to check out the jewelry. They tend to get a pretty cool variety of silver and vintage pieces. Thankfully the jewelry counter is close to the enterance so you can be in and out rather quickly as the store can get pretty beyond thunderdome at times. read more

If you can manage to find something after the color tag hoarders have came through and just grabbed random things with that color tag..you can get some pretty good deals. Everything is sorted by color not size which sometimes makes it a little tricky to find what you need, especially infant and toddler's clothes. But there have been several occasions where my family or myself have walked out with some impressive buys and didn't spend nearly what it looked like we did. read more
