Near the parking lot, you will find the highlight of the park, a charming tot lot playground. The playground was redesigned after the park suffered damage from Hurricane Irma in 2017. Here, you will find a small slide and low swings that are ideal for younger children. There is also agility equipment. A really fun addition to this area is the interactive outdoor musical instruments. Other park amenities include paved walkways, picnic tables, benches, a basketball court, and an open lawn area for games and exercise. New tree plantings will eventually add beauty and shade to the park in the coming years. I found the park to be clean and well-maintained. Come here to unwind, exercise, or spend time outdoors with family and friends. Dog owners will especially enjoy the walking paths and spacious grassy areas.

I'm always looking for new places to walk, exercise, and explore, and this spacious 9.29 acre park turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. The highlight of Bird Lakes Park has to be its brand-new nature themed playground, which opened in September 2025. Following extensive renovations, the playground now features a scenic stone mound, climbing logs, seat boulders, a birdhouse, and interactive environmental learning stations. These interactive elements encourage exploration, climbing, imaginative play, and a connection to nature. The rest of the park offers plenty of recreational amenities, including a lighted basketball court, a baseball field, a recreation center, a picnic shelter, and a paved walking path. I was also surprised to find a teqball table. The sport is played on a curved table that resembles a table tennis table and combines elements of soccer and table tennis. Teqball was invented in 2014 by Hungarians Gábor Borsányi and Viktor Huszár after Borsányi suffered a soccer injury and wanted to create a less aggressive way to enjoy the sport. Today, many professional soccer players use teqball as a supplemental training tool, and it has become one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. In less than a decade, more than 100 countries have established their own teqball associations. During my walk through the park, I spotted numerous mother ducks accompanied by their adorable ducklings. It was wonderful to see that even with all the recreational facilities, there is still plenty of room for wildlife. It's nice to know that the birds have a place at Bird Lakes Park, too.

One of the team members, Elise or Eli's was locking up the park and doing his search of the park and stumbled upon my wallet. Not only did I not know realize I left my wallet, but Elise took it into his own hands and searched the Aventura data base and called my house to let me know that I left my wallet. If it wasn't for Elise and the staff, I would never have known and would have been frantically searching the next day. However, Elise called around an hour after I left and made sure I retrieved my wallet. So for that I thank you and the staff! The park has always been home for me and my dog. The staff is an extended family that is always helpful and amazing to our community. Aventura park is one of a kind.

There is the playground that has some screens overhead to provide a little shade in the play area. There are some covered tables and chairs, so you can have some snacks or lunch. There is also a big field where you can run around and kick a soccer ball, etc. It is generally pretty clean, not too crowded, and there is plenty of parking. It is conveniently located, so we often will go there just before dinner to burn off some extra energy. There is also enough parking, too.

It's a shame it's not kept up with as much because it is a convenient park to just go with the little ones if you have any or simply for a small walk.

She worked with Ernest Coe to have the Everglades named a National Park. Douglas was a tireless champion for the environment and so it seems appropriate that a number of parks have been named in her honor, including this park in Coconut Grove. Marjory Stoneman Douglas Mini Park is a pocket park. Pocket parks are generally less than a half acre in size and can have different features that are accessible to the public. Pocket parks arose from a desire in the community to have places for kids to play instead of another building on the vacant land. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Mini Park has been a beautiful patch of nature making fond memories for northeast Coconut Grove residents for decades. Majestic giant banyan trees provide welcome shade for a playground area with climbing structures, slides, and swings. This is the perfect spot for a children's outdoor birthday party as was happening during my visit. I even ran into Rapunzel as she was leaving the party.

In 2021 a new playground was added to the park. The playground was built in direct cooperation with the manufacturer and the community so they could save money by not having to hire an architect. The park was designed with community input and includes swings and slides, colorful jungle gyms, a mini rock climbing wall, and a water misting station to cool down. For bigger kids, there is a pavilion and tennis and basketball courts. There is also a covered pavilion, walking path,, and picnic tables. The biggest drawback to this park is lack of parking. The park was filled with people when I visited but with not enough parking it seems like the city wants it only to be used by neighborhood residents. The city did a great job on Jaycee Park and it seems a shame that people who would have to drive over can't use it.

Located next to the Turnpike, adjacent to FIU and essentially the site of the Youth Fair, I came to…read morethis park yesterday to run the jingle jog 5K. From what I read, the park used to be an old airport back in the 60s. It now has fields for football & baseball, as well as a basketball court. When driving in, I saw that they had some batting cages concessions. The race itself was held on an asphalt track that looped to make the 3.1 miles. The race itself was fun, especially that I ran it with a couple of friends in a group. Besides a DJ who played DJ Laz's "Esa Morena" along with Christmas music, they were also serving lechón and pannetone as complementary bites. There was also a photo op with Santa. Where the race could have been a little better organized was in the track condition. Even though this was a night run, there was no lighting other than the runners glow sticks among the course, and with the speed bumps on the asphalt, myself and at least one or two other runners almost tripped. They also had a couple of cones in the middle of the asphalt track.
