I've been a member of the Village's fitness centre for a few years. The group classes are excellent and there is a good variety of classes at various times throughout the day. Classes that are particularly good there are Pilates, Yoga, Group Cycle (Spin), Body Pump and Body Balance. There used to be a fabulous instructor there named Jayne, but she has since left after 8 years. I made it a point to take her classes. The other instructors are enthusiastic and knowledgeable, but Jayne was the best.
Monthly membership is expensive (£24.50 Silver Member - access anytime but you pay £2.70 each visit, Off-Peak was about £42 when I had it and Peak is probably around £50-55), but it includes pool access which makes it a unique gym. The pool is fabulous and rarely too crowded. There is also a hot tub, sauna and steam room -- all lovely.
Overall, the place seems clean and equipment is up-to-date. The yoga mats and weights could do with a bit of updating, but compared to other gyms they are ok.
The restaurants and Starbucks coffee bar are what you'd expect. I don't really eat there a lot, but when I have, it's been nice.
I'm giving it 4 stars because of the membership price. read more
