Crooked Lum - Twisted chimney near the entrance is the source of the name of this restaurant.

As the name suggests, there is a twisted looking chimney stack right up through the middle of the…read morebar area. At the bottom there IS actually a working fire that is on every cold day I've been there. The bar has three levels with comfortable seating all over. There are high tables with comfortable stools as well. The bar has a good selection, only missing are the variety of shots that you get in other bars. No aftershock or Jaffa Cake vodka. Don't ask for any fancy cocktails, this isn't that kind of pub. The bar food is good, made by the same chefs that cover the Beefeater menu through in the restaurant part. Everything from Lasagne to paprika chicken salads, just not tuna. The best bit about the place, though, is the service. The staff are well trained and very attentive. They help you with you orders and even beyond the bar. They are very good interacting with children too. The management seem to be very hands-on. All the staff seem to be happy to serve you. It makes all the difference to your visit.

The crooked lum is named after the giant wonky chimney in the middle of the bar area. It's a Beefeater, so isn't awfully unlike Wetherspoons, but a bit classier looking. The restaurant area is huge, and wasn't close to full, so I was surprised when we were told we'd have a 20 minute wait as the kitchen were running behind. That should've been the first sign of a bad experience. Once we were actually seated, it took just over an hour to get our food. I ordered the T-bone steak, my mum ordered a sirloin and my dad the mixed grill; a rump steak, gammon steak, lamb chop and chicken breast packed onto a plate. When the food actually arrived, I cut into my steak only to find a thoroughly cooked through steak, when I'd asked for medium rare. I sent it back and waited 20 minutes on another one, which is unacceptable because medium rare cooking does not take anywhere near that long. They did take money off the bill for all the drama, and the only reason they're not getting one star is because we actually had a really good waitress, and she cant be faulted for the issues that were going on in the kitchen. I probably won't be back here though.

This place is a carvery restaurant. Anoth thing that's awesome is the mint sauce gravy. Mint sauce goes with everything! And gravy is practically like water to me being from Nottingham and raised on it from an early age. Awesome. Bonus of mashed potato option you don't always get at carveries too.

I wish I could give it zero stars as that's what it deserves. I know carverys aren't renowned for their top quality fayre - however this was of a whole new level of horrible. I opted to go for the glazed gammon and Turkey. The 'carver' literally hacked into the joint of Turkey and gave me a few huge literal steaks of , along with a sliver of the glazed ham. I chose my accompaniments and sat down. The first forkful that went in my mouth I spat out. It was a combination of rubber carrots and rock solid peas which I immediately had to spit in my napkin. I began moving the food around my plate to inspect for any other raw ingredients, only to find the Turkey had huge blackish red marks on it. It's not like me to be squeamish with my food but it was truly disgusting. The one slice of gammon I was given had a huge lump of fat attached to it and was chewy and tasteless. The gravy was lumpy and the diced swede was rock solid. I probably ate about 4 forkfuls in total. I wish Id complained but I'd have been lucky to find a staff member. The place seems totally desserted in terms of waiting staff. I would not recommend this place to anyone, ever!
