Really nice place. The ambiance is dark and great for meet ups. I really enjoyed the Punjabi Dal with naan. Service was great.

From the second we walked into the restaurant and sat down a short Indian man with glasses kept staring at us making it very uncomfortable.. I don't know if he was trying to pick us up or what but he just kept staring at us and I even commented to my friend ..I said that guy keeps staring at us It's kind of weird. and when we were ordering drinks I said I'd like a draft beer and he told me what was on tap and I said okay that sounds good, and then my friend ordered a gin and tonic and he looked at him he kept asking "are you okay" and my friend was like what do you mean am I okay yeah I'm okay I'm fine why do you ask and he kept going like making an odd expression and moving his head and his hands around like are you okay are you okay? I think he was implying that we were both intoxicated which was the furthest thing from the truth. We haven't had a drink in weeks. This was so bizarre and this guy with the glasses, short Indian man and I took a picture of him to send to his boss accused us of either being a toxicated or I don't know what the hell he was talking about so we just got up and left. It was the most ridiculous experience I've ever had. Shame on him! I asked if I could speak with his manager and he refused and then I started talking to his other co-workers who seemed concerned about what was going on and I tried to explain to them and he kept yelling at them something like don't listen to him or blah blah blah I don't know but it sure was bizarre. Maybe it was because two guys were eating together I don't know but the whole thing was just so weird and a horrible way to leave Oslo. Go elsewhere!

After we dined here on my last evening in the city, I can definitely see why. I love Indian food in general, but my go-to entree is palak paneer, a spicy, savory spinach dish with chunks of mild cheese that's similar to pressed ricotta. I'd say that Mother India's version rates in the top three I've ever had. Maybe the top two! Rich, complex flavor, plenty of heat, not greasy, just perfect. The naan, the papadum appetizer with relishes, and my rum and coke were all on point. Yum. The decor is beautiful, ornate dark woods contrasted with white walls, shades of purple predominate as accent colors. Lovely candles add warmth and a relaxed vibe. This place is always packed, and there's no real waiting area, but the host/restaurant owner is very congenial and welcoming and will greet and seat you asap. I've only been there once but I miss it already. And the rest of Norway.
