You should very seriously consider Benares Indian Restaurant And Bar in Oslo. It is on a narrow street very near the obvious tourist harbor. We traveled from the United States and loved Oslo. While traveling, we have found that, while always enjoying the local dining, it sometimes is fun, tasty and thrifty to try other ethnic/foreign cuisines. We have had a great meals at an Iranian restaurant in Antwerp and a fabulous Thai meal in Brugge. FAMILY ownership, cooking and service is the key! The owners are clearly invested and try harder. It is important to leave a good gratuity - if they are successful. Our East Indian meal at Benares met all our criteria. A GREAT meal; interested, competent service by the owners; generous portions, and well done. The garlic (green) prawns were perfectly done.And at an outstanding price - at least 25% off the regular comparable Norway dinner. If you want Indian cuisine - This is the place Everything exceeded our expectations. The food was delicious - The best Indian cuisine we've ever had. They make Indian food like they use in North of India - fresh vegetable, best quality on ingredients. A nice Indian beer in the bar before dinning is recommended. Have a nice talk with the bar tender. For the dinner they have Indian wine that they paired with our food and it was a perfect match. The service was exceptional. Nice location - the harbour is just down the street and the main street is just up the street. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Oslo. read more

Visited Benares today for dinner and was presently surprised by the ambience, service and quality is food. Authentic Indian Panner Tikka, freshly prepared Lassi (unlike other places where it's pre made and old) and Biryani was amazing. For the first time, I tried Kingfisher beer in Benares Restaurant. Soft and good taste. A good comibation with Kadahi Chicken. The waiters were very helpful and cooperative. Neat and clean restaurant. Centrally located in Oslo. I felt like I was in India, not in Oslo. read more
