I moved here from Sacramento, and I was looking for a different salon. I made an appointment online and then they said I needed a consult. I called back and spoke to the receptionist for a minute, she didn't seem like she had very good social skills. I guess she didn't like my accent and told the stylist I booked with some thing negative that never even happened and they canceled my appointments and told me I could only book with the owner. All I needed is regular route service and then periodic Blending of highlights. Standard dye service. This was so rude. I'm actually crying. I am writing this review to give others an idea that these workers are snobs and not to recommend this salon because the treatment this little interaction was super poor. I've never met these people and the way that I've been pre-judged for some thing I don't even know what I did. I really do not appreciate how badly this rejection for no reason made me feel. It's really hard to find a good stylist and I take really good care of my hair. I wouldn't recommend people going to the salon because of the way that they made me feel because I'm like crying my hair is in really good condition and I tip well. read more

Unfortunately, I think I'll need to find a new salon. I went to Vine Street for my last 2 haircuts and tried a new stylist for each visit. Everyone was professional, the space was nice, and their products were high quality. However, I've really disliked both of my haircuts from here. I asked for basically the same as what I've asked for at previous salons, but the results were not what I've received in the past. Both cuts were shorter than requested and have had really chunky face framing that constantly gets in the way and consistently looks odd. The second time, this was made worse by the stylist insisting on cutting my hair with a middle part even though i part my hair on the side. Unfortunately, when the face framing is so much shorter and so substantial, the only thing that can fix it is time. It seems I'm stuck with another 6 months of trying to keep my hair behind my ear until I can get it fixed yet again. Really wanted to like this place. read more

I have really thick wavy hair that can be difficult for some hair stylists, but these two can both tame my hair into something cute and manageable. Isabel, Erin, and another stylist recently did hair for 7 bridal party members onsite at my wedding venue and made us feel beautiful. When looking for wedding vendors we unfortunately found some homophobic vendors but these folks were very supportive and friendly to these two brides! read more

Angela is a lifesaver. I've sought her out for years - whether for a routine trim to keep my hair maintained/healthy or for a fun new look like going from long hair to a short bob. She is my go-to-person for hair advice because of her experience and authenticity. I'm specifically writing this review now because I recently moved further away from the salon and got a balayage from a new stylist that ultimately left me very unhappy with the results and extremely uncomfortable with presenting my hair as it was during an upcoming trip. I reached out to Angela frantically, and she went out of her way/above and beyond to do what she could to immediately help me remedy the situation and create a plan to get me to what I originally envisioned. I have been to Vine St a few times for a haircut and have seen both Isabel and Erin on different occasions. They are fantastic. They are talented at taking my verbal descriptions of lengths, vibes, and how long I want the haircut to last between cuts and delivering on something chic that exactly hits the mark. Erin talks through everything she wants to do in detail and gives lots of opportunity along the way to make edits. Isabel is also really easy to work with. They make great product recommendations, too. I can't speak to color or anything, but will keep coming back for haircuts. read more

Needed to find a place to cut my bangs. They got me in that day. The hairdresser was fantastic. It only cost $10 and if I were to get my hair done on a regular basis there, the bang trim would have been free. It's up these tiny steps in an upper level so it's not a wheelchair accessible as far as I know, but the space upstairs is really nice. read more

Angela is a truly spectacular hair stylist! I wasn't sure about where to go from a short bob and Angela fashioned the most awesome asymetrical haircut that combines the best of both worlds (kind of Twiggy, sixties feel on the shorter side, and 1920s flapper on the longer side). I love love love my haircut! Additionally, Angela is extremely kind, patient, and visionary, and a very good conversationalist! The vibe at this salon is lovely, and my experience having color done was very spa-like from start to finish. Unfortunately, in the end, I wasn't really happy with the outcome. However, my stylist handled it really well and was very accommodating, and, well, you can't really ask for anything more than than that can you? Mistakes happen. My entire family has been coming to this salon for years on years on years. The quality of service, ambiance, and hair stylists keep bringing us back. I've been seeing Bina for about 5 years now. She has done everything from up do's, prom hair, highlights, and hair cuts FLAWLESSLY. I highly recommend her! I have also seen other stylists over the years and they have been excellent as well. My tips for coming here is to book atleast a month in advance or more. They can accommodate maybe a week in advance however there will be less of a selection in terms of stylists and times. Additionally, as it goes for any haircut try to be specific as possible in describing what your vision is and definitely bring photos. The services here are more expensive but the quality and customer service are appropriate for the price. It's my motto that "Your hair is an accessory that you wear everyday so don't be hesitant to spend money on it". Also BTW they cut men's hair. The haircut I got wasn't what I wanted (even though I had explained and showed pictures to the stylist). She barely cut any hair and I couldn't even tell I had a haircut at all. Repeatedly excellent service ! I was treated so kindly and professionally by the front desk. I really need a color too with Richie and the scheduling team came through ! I really love the vibe at this spa . Richie cut my hair and took care of my color it came out exactly if not what I truly wanted . He has managed to change my color to have so much depth and shine . They use oribe too and your hair just smells sexy and expensive for days actually . I really like the efficient timing and how much care Richie and the staff shows us . Sadly, I had to take my rating down for this business. My original stylist moved away after 10 years of wonderful haircuts, so tried a few others. Two were mostly okay, the third stylist was great the first time and a disaster the second. Here's why: I'd asked her to please do exactly the same pixie as the first time, which was pretty dang short. I emerged with my scalp showing through my hair, and basically a haircut I could've given myself for free, blindfolded (of course it wasn't free, it was $100 plus a 20% tip, all in cash). She'd cut my hair about 50% shorter than the first time. I was in shock and so said nothing. The next day she texted me to say that she realized she didn't do as I asked and basically, was I okay? I figured it would grow out and would be okay in a few weeks. Well. It grew out so, so poorly -- looking like quite the hatchet job; I even had to take my own scissors to it to cure some jagged spots. It's taken eight weeks to grow enough to get a rectifying cut. I was willing to go back (sucker that I am), however in a series of texts about my next appointment, the stylist proved to be kinda weird and rude in a diva sort of way (because I failed to answer her text within 6 hours--I was on vacation and out of cell service for that day), and again not "listening" to what I was saying. So I'm done experimenting with Vine Street Salon. Too painful an experience! (Found a GREAT lovely stylist at Keter Salon, so feel like there's a silver lining to the bad experience.) read more

I got my first haircut here with Erin, and I loved it! I really appreciate that she took the time to explain each step she was doing, as well as checked in multiple times to make sure I was happy so far with how my hair looked before she moved on. I usually don't particularly enjoy getting haircuts because I don't know what's happening until the very end when they're done, but Erin made me feel so comfortable during the whole process. They also operated their business very safely and followed all COVID protocols, which was my biggest concern. They check your temperature at the door, sanitize each station immediately after it's used, spaced everyone out, and everyone wore masks so I felt extremely safe. read more

I came here a few months ago when my regular stylist was on medical leave and I couldn't wait another minute for my gray (actually white) base to be covered. I was thrilled to get an appointment quickly with Richie, but on the day I arrived three stylists had called out sick and he was running from chair to chair trying to accommodate a super busy schedule. They had called me and asked me to come later but I didn't get the message. The reason for telling this story is that you see a lot about a salon on their worst day, not their easiest. Everyone was very sweet, made sure I had water or something to drink while waiting. He took the time to discuss the color I wanted and helped shift the shade a bit. He was attentive and definitely a perfectionist, I loved the color and he styled it perfectly. He said he was putting something on it to make it shiny and it turned out to be especially shiny and lustrous. I didn't have enough time to wait for the resistant gray to be 100% the same as the rest of the hair and he wanted to do it longer or have me come back no charge. To me it was close enough, but I valued his integrity and customer service. Recommended. read more

I never know exactly what I want when I go into a salon, but typically have a rough idea. I explained my rough idea to Carolyn and she was able to transform my hair into exactly what I wanted (when I didn't even know myself)! Also, the woman who checked me in and out was very knowledgable about all the products the salon had to offer, and greeted me with a warm welcome. Highly recommend buying a gift card for a friend (or yourself) during this crisis or making an appointment after quarantine is lifted. Came here for a trim and color consultation. Cut was fine, but my color consultation with ANGELA was horrendous. She was extremely rude and pretty unprofessional. She declared how she's done color for 20 something years, OK great.. you might be a great colorist but your communication and customer service skills were some of the worst I've seen!! I chose this salon out of my intuition and it worked. I went to this salon on 12/23 and had great color and cut. My hair has not been in that good condition after consistent hair coloring. But the products this place used was very good and smells awesome. My hair is shinier and feels soft. And I loved the hair cut too. Why only four stars then? One thing that was weird is the hair stylist said if I wanted tea I can go get at the Front desk. I felt this was rude. Other salons usually offer tea and bring it for us. I know every place is different but I had to go search where the tea was at FD with hair color sheets on my hair. Second thing, the stylist took my picture without my permission and said it was just for contact purpose and will not be used for promotional purpose or sth like that. I came here after Festoon permanently closed and I was excited to try out this neighborhood salon for the first time. Carolyn is incredibly sweet and knew exactly what to do. I told her what I was looking for and she cut my hair with intention yet in a timely matter. I was out of there in an hour and with no complaints! We had a fun conversation and I'm grateful to have had her as my hairstylist! Reception was also super kind; as a postgrad with ample student debt, I have a tight budget so the fact that they didn't push me into buying extra products like other salons do says a lot! Pro: I was 15 minutes late to my haircut and it didn't matter. Con: Because the stylist was AN HOUR late to my haircut. Pro: I killed time by getting coffee at the *original* Peets next door Con: My old salon used to have baked goods. There weren't any baked goods. Pro: They had a large selection of magazines and I made it through an entire issue of In Style before my stylist got there. Con: While I was reading, an enormous yellowjacket flew through the window and landed on my shoulder Pro: They were very nice when I started freaking out and screaming, and the receptionist kindly removed the yellowjacket and threw him outside. Con: Did I mention my stylist was AN HOUR late to my haircut? Pro: When the stylist finally arrived she gave me a very lovely haircut. Con: Not one of my friends noticed my very lovely haircut. But that may mean that I need to get new friends rather than a new stylist. read more

It took me a few days to mull over my 1st & last experience here, so here it is: Booking the Appointment - I had an ok experience making the cold-call, and scheduling something for the same week. [So I was already starting the salon at 3 stars.] Parking - Not so easy, but I luckily found a 2 hour spot, so I didn't have to worry about feeding the meter. The Appointment - Well I showed up early, since they told me to try & come early. I ended up waiting over 30 min ... which was ok w/me since I was early any way. A salon assistant took me to get washed. She sat me at the sink, and asked me if I wanted a robe. In my head, I'm thinking "duhh, isn't this supposed to be a high-end salon? Robes should be on customers as a default!" So whatever ... she washes my hair, and does a quick towel dry. I have a small hand towel on my shoulders, and my hair is dripping all over the back of my sweater. [Down to 2 stars.] At this point, I don't even care anymore that the stylist is 2 minutes late. I was expecting some type of consultation, but that didn't really happen. I wanted an overall trim & some bangs. I lost more than 2 inches off my entire length, so my long hair is back to medium length. My easy maintenance bangs are like a mini-mullet. I was trying not to judge the hairstyle until a couple of days after. My hair isn't behaving whatsoever. I've never had to fuss/fight with my hair in the mornings, not until now. [One star.] read more
