I have been coming to the Vine Street Salon and working with Angela Rawlings since Spring of 2017. In that time we have tried over 18 different color combos and she's also taken great care to always make sure my hair is well cared for and healthy! I had never been one of those people who would get compliments on my hair, until I started seeing Angela! She is an absolute artist when it comes to coloring hair and always layers and melts the most beautiful combos!!! She is always down to have fun and try anything, but I also love when she just gets inspired! There are times I've had something very specific in mind and she will absolutely nail it, but more often than not, I'll just say I'm in the mood for something pink and purple~y, and she'll come back with the most beautiful ideas and inspirations! I trust her implicitly with my hair and know I will always come out looking and feeling fabulous!!! Angela never does anything half effort. Even when we've done "solid" colors, she still will layer in different shades and oftentimes a shadow root for depth. She takes so much pride in her work and it absolutely shows. I will note that working with all these colors is not a "fast" process, but you can't rush art! But I just bring something to read and usually pack a sandwich and some snacks and it's all good! I'm an ashy brown naturally so there's a bit of time needed to remove previous color and lighten my roots. Then Angela will literally paint the colors into my hair section by section. It's really so fun to watch and amazing to see it when rinsed. Finally, while my cut may not look super complicated, Angela still takes time to do a clean shave and then clean up and adjust the weighting of my longer hair. It's wild to look at where we started and how long it's gotten over this time, but that's hugely due to her not damaging my hair in any way through all of these amazing looks! I'll attach photos for you to see, but I just feel so lucky and grateful to have found such a wonderful stylist and colorist who I also absolutely enjoy spending an afternoon with whenever we get inspired! read more

I booked an appointment for color treatment with Angela from Vine Street Salon in Berkeley. When I arrived, the salon was clean, neat and tidy. The staff were all very friendly. Angela was very welcoming and warm, we discussed my wants and concerns, and she let me know what would work best, then got right to work. Angela not only dyed, cut & styled my hair to my complete satisfaction, she walked me through how to truly best take care of my dyed hair. I have received multiple compliments on the color already!! The colors are vibrant and bright and exactly what I was looking for. My hair has never looked better! I highly recommend Vine Street Salon. Erin Crespin is the queen of cutting short/curly hair! Not only was Erin mad-skilled at working with complicated hair types, she is also just a Wonder human who gives you her full attention as you sort through your hair transformation together. I was fairly certain I knew what I wanted - a low maintenance textured/short bob with curtain bangs - but Erin took the time to see how my dual-textured hair (straight and soft towards the nape, while coarse and curly up top) would respond to less volume before going in for the full chop. She worked with my hair to ensure I had the lowest maintenance bob possible! I left feeling chic and sexy. Simone did golden highlights in my dark dirty blond hair last week, and I 'd love to recommend her! She is a true pro and made my hair look gorgeous, with natural looking color like I'd been kissed by the sun Also, she is a kind and lovely human being all around, easy to communicate with and wanting to make sure I was happy with the results. In addition, I was pleased to find a stylist who doesn't want to do a bunch of processes and THEN a toner to blend it all together which can take 4-6 hours each visit. Simple half-head highlights took just around two hours and left plenty of variations in tone and color to look natural. The salon is clean and organized. The hair dressers are good to excellent. I've had 3 of them without complaint. There's only one drawback it's not accessible to non ambulatory people. The stairs are steep and you'll need to use them. I continue to use the salon and will for the foreseeable future. read more

Before I got my hair done, I had two-toned hair and some box dye left on my hair from a few months ago. Part of my hair was also pretty dead because I used to bleach it over and over up until this year. I came for some colorful highlights (purple and blue) and was worried that my hair wouldn't take the dye too well or that my hair would get super fried, but I got exactly what I wanted and my hair feels really healthy too! (In specific, I got a color correction service and got highlights as per a reference photo that I brought to the appointment.) Simone reached out before the appointment to confirm the hair style and service I wanted which was nice. She was very thorough and intentional throughout the entire hair process and was very kind (even gave me a slice of pizza )! She really went above and beyond. This is the absolute best hair salon I have found to date. I am scared to go to anyone else besides Erin. You know it's going to be a good experience when they take time to understand the cut you're looking for and zooming into the picture on your phone. Such careful attention to detail and they clearly have a great sense of what will work and how to go about the cut. My regular stylist at a different salon is on maternity leave and I desperately needed a highlight and cut stat. I researched high and low and all over the place and made my appointment with Isabel. And I would give her 10 stars if I could. I don't trust many folks with my thick, long somewhat coarse hair. I explained what I wanted although not fully sure what I wanted. She figured it out and explained options to me. My hair was getting too bleach blonde and no style. And the greys have increased unfortunately. She fixed my color/highlight, lightened my heavy hair and I loved it. My hair is refreshed and happy. I felt well taken care of and Isabel was fun to talk with and funny.
