When we first arrived I was a little skeptical from the Interesting decorative choices, but once learning the owners stories it became charming and an overall unique experience. The estate and grounds were beautiful. They take care to give everyone a tour, a glass of wine from their vineyard (surprisingly excellent Bordeaux blend). Taking a walk through the orchard, vineyard, and koi pond was relaxing. I would choose to give them my business anytime I'm in the area over a chain hotel any day of the week. Beautiful property. Lovely hosts. George and his wife have definitely created a paradise, and allow other to share it. I thought everything was perfect, a most beautiful home. They make their own wine, share lots of things with their guests. Huge pool house with pool and ping pong table inside, along with a full kitchen, nice outdoor kitchen, pool, jacuzzi. Peaceful, quiet, just a pleasure to stay at. Definitely staying again when I am in town next week, heck might make it my new toto. It's only 20 minutes from 32 St. Navel Base. They are definitely military friendly, George was a diplomat overseas before he retired. read more

Could not believe we discovered this lovely gem the week we were leaving town after living here for decades. Vineyard Hacienda is a true retreat from it all and only a few minutes from the 94. The grounds are gorgeous, the room was large and beautifully decorated and the pool/jacuzzi with pool house was a real treat. Cannot recommend enough! read more

This is a strange place. First, if you plan to arrive after dark, bring a strong flashlight with you as there are no lights or identifying signs by the driveway. Just numbers on a mailbox which don't reflect light very well. Second, although it is a beautiful facility, inside and out, there is no heat or air conditioning anywhere in the building. Including your room. Ours was 60 degrees when we arrived. They seemed a little surprised when we asked for some heat. They brought us a space heater which raised the temp all the way up to 67 after FIVE HOURS. Breakfast the next morning was fine, but there was no heat in the dining area either. Cold, cold. Staff seemed oddly indifferent. To their credit, they are trying very hard to reduce or eliminate their carbon footprint, and it is a working vineyard and winery. We just thought they should let us know that in advance. read more

We had a reservation for Saturday Nov. 20, 2021. What a nightmare! They ruined our entire weekend. We had planned this way in advance. We had dinner reservations and a concert that evening as we were celebrating our anniversary. Upon check in we are showed to our very nice, clean room. We think everything will be okay. Nope!!! Not five feet from our window they were having some type of event. With a microphone and amplifier we were tortured with moans, groans, chants and wailing non stop. We tried sealing up the room turning up the tv but nothing could drown out that noise. Why would you have that right at a guest's window? Finally we could no longer take anymore and had to leave. We had no time to dress or shower for our celebratory evening out not too mention we had no place to stay for the night. We ended missing out on dinner and the concert and driving home for hours. This after driving hours to get to the hotel to begin with. I sent them an email asking to discuss the debacle before posting any reviews. No response or apology for anything. Guest deserve at least some peacefulness in their rooms. We instead got tortured! read more

Found this place online totally by accident. Definitely a hidden secret. Joseph, Patti and Laura were all WONDERFUL, ready to help with whatever was needed. Arrived early, before the room was ready, but we were able to put our things in the room and freshen up before our appointment. The grounds are beautiful with many places to sit and enjoy the views, pictures don't do it justice. Has the feeling more like a bed and breakfast. Whether you like to just relax, or are more active and feel like working out, or a game of pool, ping pong, backgammon or chess and more, it is all here. The hotel is very well managed and organized, staff is helpful and friendly. The owner is very friendly, you feel like at home or in a family visit. Swinming pool is big and when it's get to +80 degress you'll be quite happy to have a refreshing swim. Rooms are quite big, clean and nicely decorated. It's a hidden treasure near San Diego. This place is amazing. My girlfriend and I stayed here last weekend and we couldn't be happier. The pictures really do not do justice to how large the property is - there is so much space to explore. We loved our room - it had everything you could possibly ask for. The caretaker Patty was also so good about offering to clean anything we needed. The property has so much character. It is decorated with a wide range of beautiful art pieces. The surrounding area was also full of interesting places. Highlights were a large park with hiking trails, fresh fruit market, and the best tacos you've ever had - all within a 5-minute drive or 15-minute walk. Overall we felt so calm and relaxed here, and the hosts do everything in their power to make your stay memorable. Also be sure to make friends with the sweet 'guard dog' Ray! read more

We normally stay at large hotel chains, but decided to give this place a try, boy was I pleasantly surprised. Joe greeted us when we got in with nice tour of the bldg & helped get us settled into our room. We had the champagne room. Pics doesnt do justice. The room was perfect, super comfy bed , I loved the decor. Everything you could want was available, fridge, water, coffee maker. Even the bathroom was so cute. Bfast was perfect, lots of variety of bagels, english muffins, fruit, coffee, tea, juices.. Etc. Someone complained about not enough seating for bfast. There is a table for 6, a dining table and lets not forget the many tables & chairs outside. So I dont know what they were compaining about. We loved the game room, with darts, ping pong, pool, bumper pool, and cards. I want this room for my hoouse. We didnt get an opportunity to use the pool or jacuzzi. How do I describe the property? We loved the koi pond & various plants. So many awesome photo ops. Its no wonder so many people have weddings here. Too bad the vineyard wants producing anything or we would have loved to check it out. Dont forget the orange & grapefruit trees. My wife loved picking a few, with Joe's permission. Don't forget to say hi to Ray, the resident dog. I'm so glad I found this gem. I would definitely come back. read more

We had my daughters wedding at Vinyard Hacienda this past weekend. It was amazing! The venue is a beautiful location. You couldn't ask for a more lovely setting. The wedding site has an amazing setting of greenery and a lovely pond. The mountains are in the background along with grape vines and beautiful foliage. The wedding was covid careful by taking everyone's temperature upon arrival and giving them wrist bands indicating how covid cautious the ant to be. The reception area was lovely with string lights all around and it made for a cozy setting. If having a wedding in the late fall like this I would recommend at least 5-6 heaters to keep your guests comfortable. The staff is lovely and very helpful. The DJ was wonderful and so was the photographer. Donna from Jamul Florist was great. Our flowers were spectacular! There were a few slight issues with the service from the caterer, but the food was delicious! Our guests all said they had a great time. The wedding party stayed at The Hacienda as we selected the Platinum package and they all raved about the rooms and grounds. All in all, this venue deserves the five stars I gave! read more

What a great location. This place is not your standard hotel, but a great place to come with a big group. We had four couples and had a terrific time. Played pool and ping pong in the pool house until late in the evening. Woke up to a great continental breakfast. Spent the day relaxing by the pool. From Colorado to San Diego for a weekend trip and the Vineyard Hacienda was an amazingly relaxing experience. We were a half hour from the city and beaches, but the peace, quiet and solitude the Hacienda gave us was well beyond the price of time and drive. I was online looking for an affordable hotel suite and I ran across this estate property online... I took my time scrolling through all the pictures online & I instantly fell in love, it was like something you would see in a movie. The place had everything I was looking for and more... The manager on the property had been so accommodating he even allowed me to do a photo shoot inside of house ... & I was very Appreciative Of the hospitality I was shown throughout my entire stay ....I just recently spent the last to night at the Hacienda & let's just say it was one of the most amazing experiences I have had in a hotel. I completely felt like I was at home just comfortable no real strict rules like a typical hotel. I really enjoyed the outdoor environment. Beautiful, tranquil setting. Quiet rooms. The owners are friendly and make you feel right at home, starting with a tour of the grounds. Clean pool and spa. Koi pond in lush grounds. Every accommodation has been thought of and provided for. We were offered a complimentary glass of their own Bordeaux wine (organic). It was delicious and can be purchased for $50 a bottle. It was definitely nice to have sheets that were soft and smelled fresh rather than threadbare, starchy and reeking of bleach like a chain hotel. We had an upstairs room with a balcony overlooking the pool. Great for morning coffee or a nightcap. It was in the 70's during our stay so leaving the balcony door ajar at night was perfect. I would recommend a downstairs room if it is much warmer than mid 80's as there is no air conditioning. We look forward to future stays. read more

Beautiful location, very private and quiet. We felt welcomed by the staff and owner and the atmosphere was extremely relaxing. The grounds are beautiful and the room was clean and well kept. The bedding was extremely comfortable--what a soft bed! Breakfast was a good assortment of easy items and we loved that there was coffee ready and waiting for us every morning. Sadly, we only got to meet Ray (the house dog) once but he was so adorable and friendly. It felt more like a home away from home than a hotel. My husband enjoyed the huge variety of antique decorations and art on the walls. This place was a treasure and such a unique, wonderful experience. Just enjoyed our second visit to Vineyard Hacienda, and we will return! What a glorious spot! Only 20 minutes from downtown San Diego, and you feel like you're worlds away. Spectacular grounds are in bloom with fruit trees, spring blooms, and luscious citrus orchards. Wandering the property at sunrise was incredible, with birds singing and the world waking up. So many spots to sit and enjoy nature's wonder... And the hospitality of George and Gladys is not to be matched. Generous tours, delicious breakfast on the veranda overlooking the gorgeous pool -- it's hard to beat! Wasn't sure what to expect when I made the reservations. Positive reviews aren't always a definitive indicator. But we had a wonderful 2-night, mid-week stay at this unique resort. George, the very pleasant proprietor with his wife, called us a few hours before we planned to arrive that evening to make sure we knew how to find the place (it can be hard to find). When we arrived, George gave us a quick tour of the grounds a couple glasses of his own wine before showing us to our (Merlot) room, which was quite nice and equipped with everything we needed. I say nice, if you like something a little different. What I loved most about the place, besides the friendly hospitality from the very small staff, was the eclectic nature of everything there. This is really a ranch home with a lot of bedrooms (all with private baths) and is adorned with furniture and art from all over the world. The large grounds are well-kept (apparently by a single groundskeeper) and, along with the adjacent vineyard, make for a really nice stroll. Don't be surprise if your guide is Rey, the very friendly family dog. We took our included continental breakfast out to poolside patio one morning and the beautiful coy pond another. Very peaceful. Only a hint of traffic noise from nearby Hwy 94. If you like solitude, with only 6 rooms to fill, you'll find it here, occasionally running into another friendly guest. A few affordable restaurants, wineries and a casino are nearby. Vineyard Hacienda guests are supposed to get free wine tasting at the nearby wineries but, when we called a few, none of them returned our calls. If you're looking for something a little different with a bed n breakfast feel, I would highly recommend Vineyard Hacienda. read more
