Horrible!! Joe straight up lied to my family/sister. Her wedding was July of 2022 and he PROMISED to have a team of people and the day of guests/ywedding had to help setup. He said he was going to be "day of coordinator" and he wasn't around. The rooms weren't ready on time, The chairs were dirty, no staff, said he could accommodate 200 people and the day of the wedding had to turn away guests for reception because there was NO parking!!! So much fun! Great facility. The gps there was a little funky, but if you look for a sort of mini house (probably houses electrical) near the street, you can just look for that and follow it back. The property was well taken care of. The owner and the hospitality was beyond courteous and helpful! We were able to utilize this place for a company event. We had games and fun. The venue had a nice size kitchen/gathering area for us to set up all of the food, drinks, and bar. The pool was HUGE. plenty of space for a lot of people. This is my favorite spot in the San Diego area! It's literally Heaven on Earth. When you get on the property you feel like you've arrived in Hawaii. It's so serene and healing. They have a pool, hot tub, pool house with pool table, ping pong table, card table, work out area, a pond with a gazebo, and they also have a Vineyard on site! You can have vino from the wine cellar in the private event room with a crew, it's whatever you want to do. is great as a venue but NOT a hotel. Where do I begin. The decor is horrifying, the men's room has (tasteful) naked women painted all over the walls, the grounds are poorly kept theres spider webs EVERYWHERE. The "gym" is outside and.. also just covered in dust and spider webs. We got our room [way over priced for the room] and it was OK. King size bed like we paid for but zero A/c, just a tower fan. (Insane for summer.. invest in a/c units). HERES WHAT REALLY GETS ME. We check in, we head out for our day and get an email, thankfully we checked. Called them, we got an "upgrade" for some reason so we head back to move our stuff. THEY ALREADY MOVED ALL OUR STUFF. I had fragile stuff in my suitcase and I'm VERY uncomfortable with them having repacked my clothes and moved my and my wife's things WITHOUT OUR CONSENT. So we get to the "upgraded' room and it has a FULL BED, NOT A KING. course they're fully booked already so no way to get another one since, shocker, they GAVE OUR ORIGINAL ROOM TO SOMEONE ELSE. To which we still had the keys for and walked into a room full of someone else's stuff. On to the best parts. The "upgraded" room had a smaller TV that was even more awkwardly placed than the last room and theres a laundry shoot with MORE disturbing naked women paintings shoved inside of it, nightmare fuel. Still no A/c and broken window shutters. They claimed it had the best view. Well it was of the parking lot and their poorly kept grounds. My wife's bedside drawer has no handle, instead a sharp SCREW STICKING OUT. I dont know how they haven't been sued. Theres a no letter on our door like the others so I dont think this was a room for guests. Theres a desk in here with an ancient PC tower and old notebook paper with writings on it from ages ago. Looks like an abandon room maybe someone used to live in, who knows. My best advice, find somewhere else to stay. I'm 99% sure these 5 star reviews are fabricated or made by people who didn't stay in the hotel long. The pool was nice looking but I was afraid to use it after seeing the state of the place. Worse than a motel 6. I'd have rather slept in my car. A refund is the least they could do but you can be sure that won't happen. *Update 7/25/2019* We did get a refund for our troubles - however, some of the practices done during our stay were unacceptable. Owner blamed Expedia for "overbooking them" which may be true, but as a business... You really should be up on that information, especially considering we had our room first before they decided to touch all of our stuff and move it without permission while we were out. We STILL had the key to the old room where new people were staying. What if we were thieves? What if we just stole all their stuff and left? I can bet the people staying in our old room did NOT know we still had a key. I did say I'd take down my review after getting the refund I was offered to remove my review; But I felt the right thing to do warn people of these business practices for the future. *update 8/10/2019* In response to the owner. Saying my review isnt credible is laughable. Okay, so the room wasn't on the market. We had our room first. We got there first. You moved our stuff without permission and left your new guests who you gave our room to, vulnerable to theft by us if we'd not been people of high moral character. Your business is shady at best. My wife and I need to visit the El Cajon area fairly often. We decided to try something a little different this time. About 30 minutes before we are to arrive we get a phone call to inform us that there was going to be an event just outside of our room until 8pm. This was kind of a precursor of things to come. Yes, it was nice to know in advance but there was little/nothing that we could do about it at such late notice. We arrived at the venue. It is a quaint place not far from Rancho San Diego. We were met by Patti and escorted to our room. As we entered the room it was obvious that we would not be able to sleep on the bed as it was so small. It was a "Queen" style (short double bed). At 6' tall my feet would have been hanging approximately 12 inches off the bed. Patti agreed to find us another room. We stayed at the Wedgewood room. The room needed to be made up as it was not ready yet. We placed our luggage in a corner of the room and left for some prior planned events elsewhere. At 9pm we return to the venue and notice that there is no A/C in the room. The website states "Like any 5 Star hotel, Vineyard Hacienda strives to provide every guest with all the amenities expected and desired with the added plus of true peace and quiet in a soothing natural setting." In any 5 star hotel, I'd expect A/C. At a minimum, I'd expect the website to advise that there was only a fan during hot, humid days. Yes, there is a pool but that doesn't help much during the night while trying to sleep. The first morning there we enjoyed the continental breakfast. Toast, cereal, and fruit. The second morning there we noticed that it was the same toast, cereal and fruit. Our travel required that we stay in El Cajon an extra day. We made an enquiry as to whether a room was available for the extra night and none were. We asked out of convenience for not needing to pack and move. The second night getting back to the room we noticed that the room had not been cleaned. We understand (and there is a notice in the room) that they will not be washing the towels due to water conservation efforts. What we were concerned about is that NOTHING in the room had been cleaned - floors, sink, wastebaskets, etc. The bed hadn't even been made. Our concerns and reason for the rating is not the cost of the room, or its location in San Diego. We knew this ahead of time. Our concerns lie in the value. For the $160/night you expect the same minimal service you'd get at a "Motel 6". There would be A/C (unless stated in advance), and the rooms cleaned on a daily basis. It made us wonder if the room had really been cleaned when we first arrived. We will not be returning on future trips. We enjoyed the quaintness of the facility but feel that this does not justify the lack of service for the money. read more

This is a true hidden gem! It's absolutely beautiful! All of the greenery surrounding the Spanish style architecture is just jaw dropping. It's a great place to relax and enjoy some of their wine. They offer wine tasting as well. It's an intimate place, you can have small parties and do wine tasting in the wine cellar! It has so much history which makes it even better. Rhonda is the best! She knows her stuff when it comes to the history of this Hacienda! She is so sweet and has great customer service. Ask for a tour when you're there. There's so much to see! read more

Check in was very different than expected. I arrived, but couldn't find the hotel lobby. There isn't one; because this is someone's home that was converted. I called to check in, like the chalkboard says, and the gentleman said he was sending someone to check me in. Thirty minutes of standing in the cold got the better of me and I called again, explaining no one arrived. The lady said she was having dinner but would come right away. She did. The office they have is breathtaking! She helped with my bags and showed me the room. It was comfortable. There were some parts that weren't clean - like the trash in the bathroom was left from a prior guest, broken jewelry was scattered on the floor, and a basket of towels was left behind too. The Bordeaux room gets a lot of guest noise and door slamming noise because it's in the main corridor. It's rather sketchy at night when a white truck shows up in the parking area and just sits there for several hours... made me feel unsafe. The small part of the property I saw was beautifully taken care of though. read more

The Hacienda is magical in every way. Arriving there is like a trip back in time to old California. Come weary and leave feeling cared for, rested and restored. Even have a shaman give a healing massage under the ancient oaks in the orchard. The land it's self exudes a beautiful vibe. Stroll around the grounds and rose gardens. Then take some of the tranquility with you on your journey. I came for three days and stayed for ten. Sometimes I wondered if it was all a dream. I came with my wife to enjoy myself, then for the New Year. This is my third time, and because of the staff's tireless service, I have continued to come back. Every time, we have experienced not-so-satisfying experiences, but we took the ambiance over the quality. On our first trip with family members, we experienced problems with the family plumbing. Our second time, the cable did not work the whole time. The third time the toilet ran all night, the mattress was very uncomfortable, not to mention the canopy net over the top of the bed was full of dust, as was the ceiling fan. The next day we decided this was it and wanted to find a more delightful place to stay while visiting San Diego. read more

Absolutely stunning place. It feels private even with staff and other patrons. It's quiet and a nice calm place to stay. If you are quiet, non smoking, trying to get some privacy and down time, this is an excellent choice. I'd have given 5 stars, but on my second night that I booked later in the week I came to realize I must have misread disclaimers about age restrictions, as well as reviews I read where there were younger guests, and also how it is not clear in all third party booking websites and also not indicated on the business website...all this to say when I arrived on my last night in San Diego, and returning here because it was a 5 star rating, received the bad news that my 3 year old isn't welcome, but they made an acception, yet at this point, after having a bizarre trip to San Diego over all, I felt a little unwelcomed. The concierge/check in was very kind, but apparently the manager made a point about no kids under 10 which is not clear across the web. However I apologized that I must have not read this or misread this, as my intention is not to bother people. Meanwhile my son is quiet and touches nothing. we are very clean and respectful guests. I completely understand why there are age restrictions. There are many breakables and perhaps not perfectly child "friendly" and I understand how this could be problematic. There are a lot of breakables. That said, my son is very well behaved and quiet. It's my missing this detail, which is listed on some third party booking websites but not all, and isnt clear on their own website, so I am just restating that it was an honest mistake. However I'd not have taken my son to a place like this if I thought there would be an issue with his behavior. Details, this is a really lovely old world style Spanish hacienda in all (clay?) tile floors throughout (the bedrooms have carpet, though how nice if they also had tile!) and exposed beam ceilings giving it a very cozy feeling (for me anyway). It has natural lighting and is calm and eclectic. The art collection is amazing but I didn't spend a long time looking at everything as I have my restless 3 year old, but I'm finishing a studio art degree currently, part of the reason I'm in San Diego for the week, and I really appreciate the paintings and all of the artistic detail throughout. In my opinion, everything is gorgeous, their style choice is unique and you don't find everywhere. The property is adorable and pleasant to take a little walk and find beautiful spaces to sit. And ofcorse this is a place of wine. I do not drink myself, but I appreciate wine a great deal and certainly this attracts a nice crowd. Had the confusion with my son being under 10, and not allowed, been explained better it would have been less awkward. Although we were not treated badly, it created a dynamic that felt slightly unwelcoming. If it was clear on their website, that would make the most sense. The trip was challenging to begin with, so we were at least trying to be relaxed and certainly not cause a problem. Hopefully they are able to bring this full circle so it is less confusing on the various booking sites and their own website. The third party website I was booking through was also have a lot of errors and I had to keep restarting my booking from scratch each time, it resets to 2 adults usually and I just don't think to adjust it, which is not ever problematic until apparently this booking. More relevant details...There is a mini fridge, excellent coffee with a single serve coffee brew, plenty of space for luggage and clothing, an iron, a desk, good lighting, window safely opens to outside, the bathroom is clean and shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided. Needs a hand soap maybe, but otherwise good. There is a microwave in the game room. It would be nice to have one in the room, but nice to walk outside and at least have access to a microwave if needed. A/C and heater, hot shower, soft bed, pillows, and very cozy. Quiet space to unwind and relax. Gameroom next to the pool is charming. The outdoor space is relaxing. I'd honestly say more like 4.5 because the akwardness wasn't a dealbreaker as overall they were nice as were the other guest we almost never saw. Don't let this bother you in fact it's perhaps preferred for other guest (though my son is quiet) the staff was overall relaxed about it and just was trying to follow rules, but the rules weren't completely clarified in their web info and guest have commented about having their younger children there without issue so I missed it. read more

The wedding went so smooth and everything was taken care of so we could truley enjoy it. This gorgeous hacienda is like something out of a movie. Take the image conjured up by the word Hacienda, dust it off, add luscious landscaping, and friendly hosts and happy dog and you've got the idea. The vibe was soothing and totally chill. I stayed on the second floor and enjoyed a private balcony overlooking the pool area. The room was beautiful and comfortable. Amenities included a mini fridge stocked with cold filtered water, walk in closet, fluffy towels, the softest sheets, comfy mattress, organic soaps and lotions, cable TV including premium channels, basic breakfast, and a beautifully tiled bathroom. As for the grounds - koi pond, orchard with citrus and stone fruit, gazebo, grape vines, incredible flowers, nice size pool, hot tub, pool house with games and a bar area. The chaise lounges by the pool have thick comfy pads that almost demand that you take the time for a little snooze in the sun. There has been so much thought put into this place, that every corner you turn inside or out reveals a little special something for art lovers. Paintings hang everywhere and small statues sit in corners. No detail is too small here. Oh, and bonus?!?!? Solar power and all organic produce from the property. This is just a little off the beaten path, but it suited my needs perfectly. It was situated about 15 min or so from everywhere I needed to be. Dream Venue. Look No Further! I just go married here Friday 7/9/2021 and I could not have picked a better venue. The property is absolutely breath taking! You are surrounded by trees and flowers, and the background to the ceremony is just beautiful. The staff and especially the owner Joseph, were nothing short of wonderful. Just so kind and attentive and really made this whole experience even more special. The pool area can compete with any big resort. I mean you really feel like you are in paradise. And it is so private! Every room had its own unique theme, a big comfy bed and a beautiful view to either the garden or pool. One of the best compliments you can get on your big day is "this is the best wedding I have ever been to", because you really do work hard planning a day/night that is unforgettable for you and your guests. What can I truly say about this magical place!!! My wife and I got married April 16th at Vineyard Hacienda. We had worked with Joe (the owner and manager) personally leading up to our special day. I have to say that Joe is one of the kindest most down you earth people I've ever met. He helped us thoroughly with our vendors, decor and making us at ease with all the stresses of wedding planning. He doesn't just owner and manage the vineyard. In essence, he's a wedding planner too. He helped coordinate and arrange everything. Linked us with an amazing group of florist, videographers, photographers, caterers and even an officiant. The vineyard itself is unreal. It's a fairy tale in the middle of Spring Valley and you'd never know it was there. We had the venue booked for our immediate family from Friday till Sunday (wedding on Saturday). This place is truly magical. Every time we would pull up during the months leading to it we were always so excited. It's peaceful, magical with lush beautiful flowers. I highly recommend hosting your wedding or any party you have at Vineyard Hacienda. Even if you wanted to just rent a room there for a night or two and enjoy the grounds and gardens and the private pool it is well worth it!!! His rates are amazing as well. On day of wedding I'll say that Joe and his team made everything flow and work smoothly for us. I'm so thankful for him. This review is couple months late but it is truly from the heart. Wow... SO GLAD to have found this lovely "Homtel" (yes, I am making up words). My fiancé and I stayed there 1 night in mid-March '21 and found everything about it to be wonderful. We truly felt we were in a friend or family members' home. It was so quiet and calm. We felt like we had the pool, hot tub, and grounds all to ourselves and they were all beautiful (which makes sense with only 7 rooms). This time we enjoyed the Merlot room and loved it's private balcony with a view of the pool and grounds. We left feeling super relaxed as we had been made to feel so welcome by Joseph and his crew that we encountered. Patty, Ann and Rhonda were all equally supportive, kind and attentive in a way that just makes you want to go back again. Within 2 weeks we had dreamed up a reason to come back for a couple more days of soaking up the hospitality, serenity, and peace in the quiet area of Spring Valley. I just had my wedding here a few weeks ago and would like to reflect on this venue. It is very unique, may not be for everyone but that's what we loved about it. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, the main house/hotel is roomy and feels almost like a museum. So many interest paintings and artifacts from all over the world. The wine grotto in the basement was a huge hit with our bridal party and family and is what finally sold is on this venue. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Joe the owner is wonderful and also very accommodating. I loved everything about the venue. My only regret or advise is to get a proper day of coordinator if you have lots of details involved. I know the staff did their best but that was on me to plan better. The rooms were very comfortable and my guests all raves about how beautiful this place was. Lucky for us they just had AC installed which made a huge difference because I can't stand being hot! The staff even offered to clean up why wedding dresses that had gotten trashed when I was dancing all night. I thought that was so sweet of her to help. Looking back, I am so glad we found this place and would highly recommend for any type of event. Having all our family stay there the night before and night of was so much fun! They partied and Karaoke'd until the wee hours of the morning. Long after I was passed out in my comfy bed:) I don't have any pictures yet or I would post. read more

Beautiful place hidden in a little valley. It has an amazing little orchard attached to the property with a ton of fruit trees and a meditation area. They have a large pool and two jacuzzis for relaxing. There is a beautiful coy pond with tons of food to sit near and feed the fish while relaxing. Each room has a different theme and it has a very boutique feel to the whole property. There is a large game room off the pool area with pool, darts, air hockey, etc. There is also a sweet doggy resident named Ray. :) Overall this place is beautiful and super relaxing for a weekend getaway or a wedding. This is a true hidden Gem. Me and my wife spent two fantastic Days here during the summer of 2015. The vineyard is so gorgeous with the grapes, palms , trees and ponds. The owner family makes you feel like you are staying with your good old friends and will probably salute you in the kitchen with a large glass of the vineyards own wine that is nothing less then spectacular. The Hacienda is small and secluded with around 5-7 rooms so its quiet and serene. Our room was not very large but cosy and had Everything we wanted like a comfy bed and nice terrace overlooking the pool area. When we asked what the price of a bottle of wine was the owner said that they dont really sell a lot since they love to drink it themselfs and they dont do a lot of it. Needless to say we wanted it even more! 50 $ a bottle was ok for the memories it will awake in the future when we open it. The son of the family gave us a wine cellar tour and told as about the wine when we bought our bottle and it was very interesting and personal with the private wine tour. They have a vineyard dog that comes and say hello when you park or out by the pool. He is very friendly so we thought it was kind of a nice part of the stay. The price was very good for the quality of this great Place and its not far from the hustle and bustle in San Diego. There are also lots of other vineyards in the area that you could visit. We had time to go to Three of them that was all about 10-15 min from V.H The only thing that would have made our stay better would have been AC in the room as it was soooo hit it was kind of hard to sleep even when the ceiling fan was on full speed. I Think the owners felt that it isnt needed as he said its not so many superwarm Days in the area but i would gladly have paid 10-15 $ extra per night for a/c. Otherwise Everything was perfect! Dont forget to buy a bottle of the excellent but limited wine to bring home. Great memories when you uncork it. read more

This place is beyond beautiful. I've never stayed at a place like this before, it's totally like a bed and breakfast feel. Patti is who we got to meet and she checked us in. Our room wasn't ready yet so she offered us some wine and we were welcome to wonder around. Pictures do not do this place justice, so many little areas to sit and relax all over make sure to check out the tiki carvings in the tree's. Only 9 rooms so it's never noisy. They have a dog named Ray and he was our perfect little tour guide!! This place feels like a home away from home. PERFECT literally PERFECT. It's just the perfect place to relax and get away. I wish we could have stayed more then just one night I definitely was not ready to leave. But we will definitely be coming back! We are already talking about the next time we come and checking out food spots and going to bring some friends next time. This place is just to amazing not to show it off to friends and family. read more

What an amazing find! My friends in nearby Jamul didn't even know it existed -- a real hideaway in a shady old tile-roofed hacienda off the road, with a gorgeous pool, rose garden, grape vines, koi pond, benches and paths. I loved the herds of rabbits venturing out at night and early in the morning to graze on the field. Great B&B feel to it, great owner & staff; I happened to come alone but it would be a fantastic getaway for couples & families. There's not really an exercise room but I thought it more than made up for that with hospitality & old-time elegance. Joseph was able to suggest nearby hiking trails, which I wish I'd had the time to explore. In every way, Vineyard Hacienda was a far richer experience than the usual off-the-highway, night-on-the-road-in-a-strange-town, cookie-cutter hotel room. It's really a destination hotel. read more
