I will also add that although kids can learn Kung Fu it takes a high amount of discipline and moral conduct. In other words this is not your typical birthday party black belt karate mill that hands out belts to children. Bruce Lee only started learning at 16. Kids in China learn much earlier but it is integrated into the school system as Wushu. Martial means military and although parents want there kids to exercise and have fun it should never water down the curriculum to accommodate them specifically.

I have learned that Tai Chi is the foundation of Kung Fu, so I refer to them both as my Chi classes. And I credit them - and Sifu Lou's instruction - with my continued rejuvenation. I started these classes back in the summer and I am now committed to them. I'm not saying that I am now pain-free and have been returned to the flower of youth. I'm saying that I'm on my way. Despite my age, I still think of myself as a "boy," but this boy has extensive and painful arthritis. What I have gained since I started classes is increased flexibility and more energy. And no, I have no illusion that I'll become 20 again!... But I'm learning to manage my body's age so that I'll essentially be a very young sexagenarian. My spirit is already there! He is very experienced and knowledgeable about Wing Chun Kung Fu and many aspects of Chinese culture. He teaches the kids not only the skills but also about the health benefits of doing kung fu. He also teaches them about self discipline, self confidence, self respect, and respect for their parents, teachers, instructors, and fellow classmates and more. He maintains control of the class which could be difficult especially with younger students, however, he is quite masterful at managing the class. I used to sit and watch class in amazement at how he handles any disruptions or challenges. I learned a few parenting tips from him as well. The classes are typically a mix of conditioning and skills with games at times. He would have special classes with a party at the end and games for holidays and traditions like Christmas and Halloween where he'd also give the kids a goody bag.
