I've been coming here for years. It's an amazing and VERY unassuming little herb shop tucked away on Convoy. Dr. Marlene Vong runs the shop after her father passed away, so it's second-generation ownership. She is a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, and if you see her, she can prescribe you herbs for your ailments. She's incredibly knowledgeable and has essentially made me not have to go back to the doctor's in a very long time. I used to get regular IBS flare ups, and immense pain from PCOS and ruptured follicular cysts. After years of being referred from one specialist to another, my body was wrecked from steroids, antibiotics, and immune suppressants. After three years, I was pretty much ready to throw in the towel. After about six weeks of being on various combinations of herbs to get my mix right, I got about 95% symptom free with no flare-ups, which was unheard of. I know the skepticism is real with herbalists, but I felt my appointment was helpful in getting core advice to help me with my cough. I know the reminders from our moms to keep warma nd drink tea falls dead to our ears, but hearing it from the herbalist is always a good reminder. I can tell a big belief of hers is stress in correlation with chronic issues, which is 100% true. Something not talked about in regular doctor appointments is addressing the root cause of some of the issues we may have. I think I'm a little wary on all the supplements only due to not being able to read them to see their origin or how they are processed, but overall I had a great experience. Since the father retired, the store is now managed by his daughter who is a very experienced Chinese medicine and acupuncture practitioner. After getting sick and tired of my local western medicine doctors turning me away for my chronic sinus infection, I turned to Marlene for help and she was amazing. She cleared my plugged sinus infection minutes with her acupuncture and even held my baby daughter the whole time while I waited. Her and her family are the sweetest people you can meet and they truly care about you. First time consultation is $60 and you have to pay in cash, but you can pay the medicine themselves with cash or card. When all things combined, I spent about $180 but I'm so willing to spend that money because I'm tired of not breathing and coughing my lungs out. I love how eastern medicine really has no side effects and it's gentle enough even my 1 year old can also take small amounts of it for her battle with the cold. This place is an historic landmark here in San Diego. I've been a few times in the past just browsing through but it wasn't till after being referred to see Marlene from a friend and then being on the wait list for about a month, I can now see why Marlene and this herb shop is one of a kind. Our oldest son, 6-years old, has had eczema since he was little. But, recently, it was at its worst (see pictures)--to the point that it was really red, irritated, and itchy. The eczema looked like it was starting to spread a little bit from his neck to under his chin area. I was getting pretty desperate, so I decided to give a traditional Chinese medicine doctor a try for the first time. I figured I had nothing to lose. In the past, we tried steroid creams recommended by my his pediatrician, food elimination diet, and probiotics. I was hunting around for a place that supplied Yin Chiao Chieh Tu Pieh ("Yin Chiao"), and I'm so happy I stumbled on this store! I think it's the closest place to North County that stocks this kind of thing. Their prices are reasonable. That's always appreciated. Their selection is excellent. I couldn't believe how much stuff they had in there! I would be surprised if there's any Chinese herbs that they don't stock. The person helping me out from behind the counter was also the owner. Small businesses for the win! She was super-duper nice to me even though I only was making a small purchase. We chatted a bit and I found out they have been there for quite awhile. There was ample parking, and it was easy to find the place. Inside, it was clean. I do not know where to begin because Marlene has truly been an absolute Gem in my healing! I was recommended by my wise acupuncturist to come here, as not only is the herbalist on staff here legit and knowledgeable but she also speaks perfect English! Marlene, who is Asian-American and educated in traditional Chinese medicine and also an acupuncturist, spoke at length with me to understand my health condition -- a lingering cough that won't go away for months now -- and asked me a ton of questions. Came to purchase herbs to remedy my sickness. I had a prescription that had the herbs written in Chinese and also in pin-ying. Although I speak some Mandarin, I didn't really say much when I went in. Seeing me, they used the basic English that they knew to communicate with me. I showed them the printed out list of herbs that I needed and told them that I need 3 bags. She got them and measured it out on the scale and then packaged them neatly into bags. I had 5 ingredients in each bag and each bag cost $3 for a total of $9. Not bad at all, just remember to bring cash because that's all they will accept. The ladies are all nice and helpful. This is about the third or fourth time that I've come here and we've always been able to get what we needed. Their store is fully stocked with all kinds of different herbal ointments, teas, remedies, etc. They are pretty easy to find off of Convoy and the private parking lot there is ample. read more

OMG! This store has medicine that completely removed my eczema! Nevermind the countless copays to your doctor or the abundant amount of money thrown away to INEFFECTIVE medicine pushed by American pharmaceutical sales reps! There is an eczema cream at this store that completely got rid of my eczema in 2 weeks, applied once daily! It only costs $3.50, much cheaper than my pharmacy copay! I don't know the name of the cream as it is in chinese characters but the manufacturer name is BL. Per the insert, this cream is made of compound ketonocazole cream. *ketonocazole is an anti fungal agent but can be used to test eczema. Disclaimer: I dont know how this medicine was manufactured, what other chemicals/ingredients were used, whether this particular product is regulated by the FDA. I was therefore hesitant to use it. I can not claim it will work for everyone but it worked for me after 2 weeks of use, applied once daily. No side effects or other ill-effects for me. Historically: i have had eczema since a child and it is hard to get rid off. 4-5 years ago, i developed a large patch of eczema on my left leg. At the time, my physician prescribed clobetosol and triamcinolone, the latter of which is weaker than the former. I followed the instructions for both products for 2 weeks with no improvement and countless copays to the physician. I gave up and learned to live with my eczema. Over the last 3 years, the eczema patch turned hard and rough and grew in size. It started to look like the skin of Sir Jorah Mormont of "Game of Thrones" I was afraid that my leg would turn into that of sir jorah. So, last month, i decided to visit this store and give this cream a try. It worked!! My skin is now smooth as a baby's bottom where there used to be very hard skin for 3 years. The store clerk who helped me didnt speak English. Thanks to Google translate and my handy smartphone, i was able to communicate what I needed. Many thanks to the clerks at this shop for helping find the ketonocazole cream. My current physician tells me to continue using it if I need it. I'm happy with the results! Edit: as of jan 2018 they ran out of this brand. They dont know when they will get more. They have other brands, which i have not tried and are at a much higher price.
