I go to their Berkeley office which is part of a very nice building solely dedicated to their group's practice. Pretty darned impressive! He just performed by biennial endoscopy and colonoscopy - non trivial procedures. Here are the issues I've experienced: 1) As many have pointed out, the patient coordinator Mariah doesn't provide adequate service. She is slow to respond, lacks empathy, is unpleasant to speak to and very short in her interactions with patients. 2) Cultural competency is also an area of concern when it comes to basic procedures. I was made to feel like I was wrong for asking for accommodations that take my religious beliefs and financial situation into account. 3) I also received an unexpected bill for asking simple questions about the procedure and what it entails because initial information was not provided. 4) Lastly, results are handled poorly - they basically release them via the portal but don't provide any explanation about test results for days after. I'm still not sure if it's because I called the office and pressed to have the doctor explain them or if they are just that delayed that it took them a week to follow up with me. These were pretty significant results that required additional levels of testing. It's concerning to be able to see your findings but not have a doctor or professional explain them to you for nearly a week.

I agree with others that Dr. Cheng is a competent and compassionate doctor. But over the years the practice has ballooned in size to the point where the staff is totally overwhelmed and careless mistakes affecting patient care are being made. Dr. Cheng's previous patient care coordinator, Nicole, was amazing, but the new coordinator, Mariah, is clearly out of her depth. My specialty pharmacy told me they made 6 attempts to get a new authorization and never got a callback. I later found out that when Mariah submitted the authorization paperwork the first time, she encountered a problem, noted it in my medical chart (cya) but never bothered to inform me so I could follow up. On her second attempt, she made a careless mistake (she answered it was "unknown" if my medication was helping me) that caused my authorization to be denied. When a customer service rep from the insurance company informed her of the error, she denied that she was responsible then complained that she was being asked to submit my authorization for a third time. Sorry to inconvenience you, but it's your job!

Didn't listen, just a loss of money, and added stress…read more I was hit with the trifecta a) an unnecessary procedure (thankfully didn't go through with) b) an unreasonable cancellation window (Is 7 days a normal window??) and 3) a large ($400?!) cancellation fee I went in for stomach sensitivities and was recommended a procedure looking for celiac, when I made very clear I don't react poorly to gluten, but that is the one thing he focused in on. I later received a second opinion that agreed it felt premature, and not related to my concerns. After I cancelled I found a $400 bill in my mail because I didn't cancel within the 7-day window. Kind of felt like they were getting a payout regardless, just from my initial appointment happening. Be wary of the cancellation window, and make sure the procedure is actually necessary.

I called for an appointment, got one with less than 1 week wait. When I went in, I filled out paperwork for maybe 10 minutes and then the doctor saw me right away. We scheduled a follow-up procedure and I was out of there in less than 30 minutes total. I continued to decline until I went to the ER twice, had severe tachycardia, lost income from work, and another doctor finally diagnosed me with severe SIBO and a hernia. Throughout this time, I received almost no communication--no responses to multiple messages or calls--and her staff would only offer appointments six months out based on her approval, which never came. As a long-time patient, it felt like she had checked out of caring for my health. I later learned from a second opinion that the colonoscopies she recommended for me weren't medically necessary every other year. Every TEN years was sufficient! My primary care doctor, who knows her personally, even told me she was nearing retirement and seemed "checked out," and that other patients had gone through similar experiences. From my perspective, it often felt like financial priorities were put ahead of my actual care. Based on what I went through, I believe her management of my case was deeply irresponsible. If I had the resources, I would strongly consider pursuing a formal complaint. I won't return and deeply regret recommending her to others. The office claimed I received services they newer provided and never even mentioned. Bulling office told me that's how things get done there. At the end bills for the services I never received where send to financial collectors and I had to pay those with interest. I am considering a lawsuit. Beware of shady billing practices.

Also, did not mention that an endoscopy would involve going under general anesthesia. His office questionnaires were collecting personal data that had no basis on diagnosis or treatment. For Eg: Provide a list of 'All' surgeries you've ever had. Also, patient intake forms do not include options for preferred names or pronouns.
