I decided to travel from Houston to Austin to have the procedure with Dr. Cherico, who removed my brother's gallbladder a little over 5 years ago. What a wonderful experience! His "bedside manner" is exceptional; he is funny, easy-going, and informative. More importantly, he must be an expert surgeon! My recovery was SO easy (it was harder getting over the flu!). I was worried about the pain from the gas after surgery, but I had ZERO problems. Incision sites look wonderful---the three above my belly button have healed completely and the scars are nearly invisible. He did a wonderful job and I am so glad that I chose him!

This place is a bit hard to find so start early. It's a bit of a repurposed house. The front desk is super nice especially Paul, and the payment was quick and easy. So, here comes the large part of the review: Dr. Erica Swegler. As you can tell from my star rating I thought she was good. She was very quick and too the point, which I see one people may be put off by, but really though. People are complaining that clinics can't get to people on time or doctors leave in a rush. There is no happy medium. Dr. Swegler tries to get people in and out and try to get to the bottom of things as fast as possible with ample care and evidence. Her words may be a tad bit brusque, but she gets to the point. As for people who read WebMD and think they know everything, then complain about doctors correcting them... Really? You pay them to tell you what's wrong. There is a sense of professionalism that you're undermining by completely ignoring professional help even though you come for it. I can see why one doesn't want a brusque doctor for long term, if they're more sensitive. That's understandable, but she is a general practitioner, not a therapist. If you want ample time to talk about things, then this place may not be suitable. However, when it comes to quick expertise and professionalism without fluff, this is the place to go.

They couldn't handle the referral during my visit on Monday because their computer was down. Each day has had a new excuse/explanation. Now they're HOPING to have it sent tomorrow -- Friday. Meanwhile, they've already arranged for my colon cancer screening materials to be shipped and they'll be here Friday. In other words, if all you need is preventive care, you're going to be great here. But if you actually require ongoing or followup care, you're going to fall through the cracks. As soon as the colon cancer screening is done, I'll be looking for a new doctor.

I went in today for my monthly follow up appointment. I had had a neck surgery last week which turned out to be extremely painful. I had been in the office the day after the surgery to receive some stronger medication while I healed. Today Dr. White walked in and I couldn't believe what followed. I had waited patiently for over an hour to see him. Then he finally came in and he was extremely agitated. So much so that he was shaking and pacing around the room. I started trying to tell him why I was requesting to see him instead of his PA this visit. He started cutting me off while I was talking, responding very rudely to what I was saying. Then he seemed to lose patience and launched into what turned out to be a 5 minute long assault on me and my character. He told me that I was a liar and a drug addict. He told me that I was obsessed with pain medication. When I tried to respond, surprised but calmly, he swore at me and told me he didn't care what I had to say. He cited early refills and multiple ER visits. When I tried to point out that I had never gone to the ER unless directed to do so by his office, I was again cut off and not allowed to speak. He continued on in a manner that I can only think to describe as cruel and abusive. I was cut off and shut down everytime I tried to speak or ask a question. This went on for almost 5 minutes and he ended by saying that I was to see their addiction specialist to be placed on Suboxone. Then he walked out. I was so shocked by his behavior that I just walked out without a word. To be clear, this is not about the accusation that I was addicted to pain medication. I have been on pain meds for a long time and Dr. White had some valid points. This is entirely about the way he handled it, the way I was treated. He was overly aggressive, too loud, he called me a liar and a drug addict repeatedly, he swore at me and kept cutting me off by telling me he "didn't give a damn" how I was feeling. I believe his attitude and his rant at me fall into the category of abusive. I felt so degraded and embarrassed by the time I left. Not to mention he has left me with only two days of medication left, shortly following a very painful neck surgery. I filed a complaint with Advanced Pain Care and may file one with the Texas Medical Board. What happened to me in that office today was not okay. I will never step foot into that facility again. Update: I spoke to the practice manager at Advanced Pain Care. According to her, the nurse in the room contradicted my complaints. She said the doctor was "stern" with me and never swore. While it's true he didn't cuss me out or anything, he did say "I don't give a damn what you feel about....". I felt it was inappropriate and unprofessional. As far as him being stern, that is a gross understatement. Apparently Dr. White expressed that he was only trying to help me. Well Dr. White, if you feel that's true then I'd like you to know that you have an *awful* way of showing it.

During my annual physical on April 29, Dr. Naik simply asked whether there had been any changes in my health. I mentioned that my sleep had not been normal, and a stress-related medication was suggested. There was no separate evaluation, no detailed discussion, and no additional medical service that justified extra office visit charges. Patients should be able to answer basic questions honestly during an annual physical without worrying that every response will generate additional billing charges. The scheduling process is already extremely difficult and time-consuming, which made this experience even more frustrating. Charging a patient three separate office visit fees for a single appointment is simply not fair. I feel this was an unfair and misleading billing practice, and it has completely damaged my trust in this provider.

I highly recommend Dr. Youman if you ever need his specialty. He's experienced, warm, friendly, and kind. And that means a lot in his field for sure!
