I trust my health and my life with Dr. Rhodes. No other doctor I have ever had has taken the time to get to know me, to really go through my entire health chart, and offer knowledgable advice like Dr. Rhodes. Today, he spent well over an hour with me going through every aspect of my physical and explaining what each test revealed. Consider how that differentiates one doctor from another! He is a throwback to the time when doctors did things the old-fashioned way. The staff is great and personable, and everyone who works there have been there for years. The receptionist is a great ambassador for Dr. Rhodes, attentive and proactive with my appointments. The nurses are caring and good looking too! (Bonus!) I can't say enough for the entire team that supports Dr. Rhodes. That kind of stability offers great assurance for patients. Everyone is kind, friendly, and understanding. If you are looking for a doctor and consider these traits to be important, you will find every one of them here at his office. If you like a fast food mentality when you're seeking medical care then Dr. Rhodes is the doctor for you! I've been feeling under the weather for about a week, so this morning I called to get an appointment with Dr. Rhodes. The receptionist asked, "Would you like to come in this morning or this afternoon?" On the one hand, I was excited because I would get to see the Dr. ASAP, on the other hand, I thought, 'Is this really a good sign that he has so many availabilities on any given day? How good can a doctor like that be?' Well, I was about to find out...not very good. I arrived early and waited about a half hour before the nurse called me back. Just as we were going back she told me, "It looks like you're going to have to wait out in the hall. We don't quite have a room ready for you yet.' What? Wait out in the hall? Then why did you call me back? After about 10 more minutes of waiting (I went back out to the waiting room), I finally got a room. The doctor was in and out in a flash. He basically did everything but push me out the door. He didn't take my height, weight or feel my very swollen lymph nodes. He just handed me a nasal prescription and told me to come back if it didn't help. And pay another office visit fee? I don't think so. I think that I'll leave the fast food medical mentality to someone else and go find a doctor that will actually LISTEN to me. UPDATE: I just found out that Dr. Rhodes charged me $98.00 for "counseling" and $173.00 for the office visit. I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS DOCTOR AGAIN! HE IS A SCAMMER!! I hope you never go either! It's times when you're feeling lousy that you really appreciate having a great doctor to rely upon. I've been going to Dr. Rhodes for over ten years, and highly recommend him and his staff. The doctor I had previously was horrible about appointments. If you were sick, you were lucky to get in within that month...the only option they gave you was the emergency room. So, when I switched doctors I asked about last minute appointments. Dr. Rhodes' policy is to always leave room in his schedule each day for unexpected appointments. I don't go to the doctor very often, but when I'm sick I am thrilled to know that I can get in to see him sometimes within the hour. Even if I have to wait a little when I get there, it's not an issue! For example, this last week, I had been sick for several days and called for an appointment. From the time I first called to the time I left his office and was back on my way home, it was less than two hours total! He's very direct, no-nonsense and straight forward. Maybe for some patients they need more handholding, but I guess I don't. He always answers my questions completely, doesn't push a lot of prescriptions, doesn't rush you out of the room and genuinely seems to care. In my book, that's a home run for a doctor. read more

There is a certain aspect of Western medicine that I'm enormously irked by - the unnecessarily frustrating manner with which it is delivered to the consumer - and I rarely see a doctor because I tend to avoid it altogether. And a warm doctor's office environment can be hard to find; as a patient you can find yourself stuck with whatever you can get. Well I was stuck with Dr. Rhodes office today, in desperate need of some good old Western healing for a flat out bad respiratory infection, and thank goodness for this Dr. Kerry Rhodes and team. I attempted to contact and/or schedule an appointment with several physicians pulled from my insurance directory, with not even enough luck to reach one potential candidate. This was all due to various causes - out of order phone numbers, incorrect labeling, or because the docs listed just weren't taking patients. All what I would have expected, have experienced in the past, and again, a huge reason why I avoid the process altogether. I remembered Dr. Rhodes' name from my one other real visit to a general medicine doctor in many years. They fit me in the day of! and every single staff person was pleasant, including the doc himself. The experience of going to the doctor was actually, enjoyable. I'm glad I had Dr. Rhodes' number to call, and that once again was provided the warm hospitable care I remembered from three years ago. Please keep it real. I've been going to Dr. Rhodes for at least 5 years now, and my parents have been going to him closer to 14 years. He's a fantastic doctor, and the staff there is so great. I've never had an issue getting an appointment same day. I appreciate having a doctor that is willing to work me in at a moments notice. One of the previous reviews said something about not trusting a doctor that can work you in the same day, but I work in the medical field and it's very rare that you're so booked you can't work in ANY patients that may have an emergency. Sorry to burst your bubble. Dr. Rhodes recognizes me and remembers my name even before getting my chart. That could be that I was in there at least once every couple of weeks for 5 months for various minor health issues, but hey, I'll take what I can get. He's also really good about finding long term solutions. After 3 or 4 visits where I was coming in with the same problem, he opted for a treatment plan that I could self-administer as needed, and thus avoid having to come in on such a regular basis, which saves me a co-pay and taking time off work. I have had some problems with their billing department, but as a doctor, he's the best. He's very straightforward with me and not hesitant to answer any questions. He doesn't baby me, which I really appreciate, however if you're one of those people who needs your hand held because you've got a cold, you probably need to see someone else (go see a pediatrician if you're going to act like a child). I don't really have time to take a day off of work because I've got a minor illness and really appreciate having a doctor that understands that my time is just as important as his. Despite constantly being sick, I actually enjoy going in to see him. read more

I've called dozens of times to ask the receptionist when my appointment is scheduled for, and every time I've called she doesn't answer. Her entire job basically consists of answering phones and she can't do this. I'm not exaggerating when I say dozens; this has been going on for weeks now. Aside from the horrible customer relations, pervasive religious iconography, and vague condescension, Dr. Rhodes is fine. His NEW concierge approach to family practice gives the patient (me) the accessibility of a small town neighborhood doctor with the knowledge and expertise that a big city doctor and its resources provide. I had been going to Dr. Rhodes from the time I arrived in Austin, to the time I left...a total of 14 years. For all that time, he had been a wonderful doctor - very caring and would go out of his way to help anytime I had any health issues. His front office staff is AWESOME. He has had the same nurses for more than 5 or 6 years...which means he had little to no turnover. That says a lot about a doctor who can keep his staff for a long period of time. When I was first diagnosed with migraines - he offered to meet me at his office on a Sunday to give me a shot or medication. I felt bad for having him offer, but he saw me first thing Monday morning. I was always able to get in whenever I was sick. I never had to wait a day. Dr. Rhodes is always thorough and he is very succinct and talks fast - I guess that could be misconstrued as 'fast food' or 'quick'. I have many friends who go to Dr. Rhodes and have never had any complaints. I suggest if you don't have insurance...try going to the People's Clinic or one of the city/county clinics. Usually for self pay patients the fees can be high with any physician...not just Dr. Rhodes. I have insurance and just pay my copay - I have never been charged for additional services. He's a wonderful Christian doctor and has a great bedside manner. read more

My trip to Dr. Rhodes went great. He is what I want in a doctor. The last reviewer complained that it was "fast food mentality." That is really unfair for what was really going on. Dr. Rhodes was very quick when he came in to see me, but that is what I wanted. I was working and didn't have time to spend hours at a doctors office. Despite that, I never felt rushed. I knew what was wrong with me, and I knew I needed a doctor to give me the prescription. There is nothing I hate more than when my allergies are acting up or I come down with strep throat and I have to spend an hour and a half for a doctor to tell me what I already know. I was glad that he was quick, but he was also caring and asked me about what was wrong, and double checked to make sure what I was saying seemed like my symptoms. I didn't want idle chit chat or for him to do a bunch of random test the nurse can do before he get there (which the nurse did take care of). He was friendly, very effective, and the best part is the whole trip took about 20 minutes from checking in to having medication in my hand. I'm not sure about cost, I have good insurance and I only paid my $25 office visit copay, but normally if the doctor tries to add in other cost I have to pay more of that, and I did not notice anything like that, so I would say the cost were what is expected. read more

In searching for Dr. Rhodes's phone number, I came across these reviews and, because of one of the earlier reviewers, feel compelled to put in my two cents. Dr. Rhodes has been my doctor since I moved to Austin in 1999. I chose him at random but have been very happy with him. My sister saw him when she lived here, and my husband now sees him too. We all have nothing but good things to say about him. Dr. Rhodes is always thorough and seems to genuinely care about his patients. A couple times, he has found and addressed a couple of potentially serious health problems. He has immediately referred me to specialists when needed, and I have, thankfully, been able to fully recover. Whenever I have been sick, he has been extremely responsive. I have never had a problem getting in to see him when I needed to. That is a sign of a good, caring, responsive doctor, not a "fast food mentality." read more

Dr. Rhodes is great. He's attentive, intelligent and actually listens. But you'll never get to see him because his receptionist CANNOT PICK UP THE PHONE. And if you do actually get an appointment, they will ignore you for about five minutes while you stand awkwardly at the window trying to check in. Meanwhile, they are also ignoring other people's phone calls. Really, what are they even doing? A primary care physician is who you go to when something happens and you need a prescription, X-ray or consultation done in the next few days. Unfortunately, it will take you about four days of non-stop calling and leaving voicemails to maybe, *maybe* get an appointment if they will actually call you back. After experiencing this the past 3 times I've needed to see a doctor, I've just given up on ever getting someone to pick up the phone at Dr. Rhodes' office. I'll be finding a new primary care physician. read more

Dr. Rhodes seems to really care for his patients and is definitely conservative when it comes to prescribing medications--something that has always been important to me. I think he also happens to be highly efficient and doesn't need to stay longer than necessary to get the job done. I would recommend him to friends/family. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Rhodes for some time now. I think he is very professional and he is an excellent physican. He is very friendly and personable which I wish I could say the same for his staff. I think it is a good thing when the nurse or assistant calls your name and greets you, however, his staff neither greeted me or acted as if I existed. What happened to having common courtesy and having manners. I guess that does not matter to some people but it does to me and I feel I should be treated well and feel welcomed from his staff. It is sad to consider leaving because someone on the staff does not know how to acknowledge and be friendly to patients. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Rhodes for years, and can attest to the fact that he is a good family doc... However, his office staff are his downfall. If you want an appt with him you must call and leave a voicemail, which 9 out of 10 times they never return so you must keep calling. Once you finally do get an appt. you then play the waiting game with him. Every time I've ever been here they have been running at least 45 minutes to an hour behind schedule... Every time... I understand things happen but when these happen every time you need to see the doc it gets to be unacceptable. Again, he is a good doc and I do like him, but his staff and overall practice sucks; I will unfortunately be changing Physicians. read more
