Came here for the first time today. Had a great experience. The place feels comfortable, open, light, clean, low key, and relaxed. I made an appointment online a couple days ahead and arrived a few minutes early. Christina spent several minutes asking about how I wanted my hair cut, checked how it was cut last time, looked at a couple pictures I brought, shared exactly what she'd do, and she cut it perfectly. She was friendly, happy, personable, and it was clear she really enjoys working here, and told me that as well, nice to hear. I haven't had a professional haircut since the COVID-19 quarantine. I've been cutting my own hair to a uniform length with a beard trimmer. I made an appointment on my birthday to get a skin fade, my neck cleaned up, and beard lined up. Without going into a tirade rant, the experience was not good. I did not feel welcome as a customer and after paying in cash and asking for change back (which included a 25% tip) I was handed a handful of bills that I later counted and realized was $3 short. I thought this place would be inviting and accepted people of all kinds but I guess my kind is not accepted here. If I could give negative stats I would. My hair cut at the time was a simple low fade with a two finger clip at the top. Have had this same haircut for past twenty years, usually takes 20 minutes to complete. Great place. I moved from California and have been looking for a regular barber for two years. I found it right here. They are competitive on pricing and friendly and capable of booking regular appointments. They give military discounts and shave your neck with a straight razor. James did not once acknowledge me or apologize for running late. I left without a haircut. On the recommendation of a professional associate, I tried Jake at the Churchland location of Vintage Barber Company. He did not disappoint. He listened to my vision, asked questions about the picture I showed him, and turned my request into reality. He is extremely knowledgeable about his craft, making sure I knew how to take care of the look. He also is a great conversationalist, too. That always makes the hair cutting experience easier. His low key, friendly vibe certain adds to the complete package with Jake. I would heartily recommend him, and I look forward to returning for my next cut. He even suggests a realistic timeframe for a return appointment. The price is reasonable, as well. You can't beat what Jake has to offer. read more

Epic barber shop! They do not do girls hair, but for guys especially military this place is great. I am 33 years active duty military and this is one of the top barber shops I have been to. Of course they do a razor blade cut and trim (fantastic). Everyone I have gone to here is great, but my favorite barber is John, you need to reserve a cut with him at least a week in advance though. However, when there's no one in the store getting haircut or waiting and they won't cut your hair because someone is coming in? 2 barbers, and they just turn away business. I sit in the parking lot for about 10 minutes looking for another barber for me and no one showed up. Great job! read more

CASH ONLY. I get that it's called vintage barber shop but come on. Turning down the most common form of payment (card) is alienating an huge portion of possible customers. Maybe that's intentional to discourage certain customers. I've only gotten a beard trim and shave there. Although, the man was visibly shaky, the shave was done well. But when he told me the price afterwards I was floored. $40. Of course I tip also. They only accept cash so when I went to pay he told me there was an ATM machine in the corner. The machine would only give 20's. So I left paying $60 for a shave. I decided to look up prices online. I don't remember the prices but there were cheaper options. Months later I was in a bind and needed a decent shave for a last minute event at work so I went in and asked for the cheapest option. He seemed to understand and said ok. There was zero conversation bc I quickly realized he was hearing impaired. Then he puts a scalding hot towel on my face and it was 100 degrees outside. I tried to tell him no on the towel bc it was done on my previous visit but he didn't get it and acted like it was mandatory. When it was over he told me $40 again. I tried to talk to him about it but he couldn't hear a word I said. So rather than yelling about it in front of the entire shop I just paid and went on my way. Needless to say there's no reason to go back. If you decide to visit this establishment be very clear about what you want and make sure they understand. I won't mention the barber's name bc I don't want to shame him as it's not his fault he's hearing impaired. There's zero chance management isn't already aware of these issues. read more

A smidge pricey, but we'll worth it for a legit barbershop with a straight razor finish. Definitely want to use their website to book an appointment. They will support walk-ins but don't always have time. They do have a sister-store in the Greenbrier area where some of the barbers split time between stores. I always see Kristen, she was also very helpful to help me settle on a newer hairstyle as I'm transitioning out of active duty military service. I called in to make a an appointment for my son, and they were able to get us in the next day! The place was very nice and clean! The Barber..... we were scheduled with an older man there. The barber is cutting my sons hair I noticed my son started shaking- I figured he was cold but he said he wasn't cold and that it wasn't him. I realize it was the barbers hand on top of my sons head, that was shaking. I didn't know what to do and didn't just want to make him stop cutting and be disrespectful. At the end of the cut it was just bad, there were some areas I asked him if he could blend better but eventually I just told him it was OK because there was no fixing it. In hindsight, I probably should have took my son out the chair as soon as I saw that the barbers hand was shaking! This is so dangerous to have a man not just with clippers in his hand, but with scissors that doesn't have a steady hand. I'm not sure if he was having an off day or maybe wasn't feeling well, but when it comes to cutting someone's hair especially a child, if he's not having a good day, his place shouldn't be with clippers in his hands. The haircut was terrible and patchy, we ended up going to another barbershop to get it fixed. The other girls in the shop themselves look like they were doing the damn thing on the other men and kids that were getting their cut but to be honest, no one was very friendly to us- I don't think we even were greeted. We were definitely out of place and I probably should've went to a different shop to begin with. Lesson learned. read more

What a great place! My boyfriend stopped in to get a haircut and I went in to wait. It's such a cute place with great decoration/atmosphere. There's a checker or chessboard you can play while waiting. They also have beverage if you're thirsty. Everyone was friendly, and little did I know I was talking to the owner as I waiting for my boyfriend to finish with his haircut. Such a nice and cool person. Definitely recommend this place!!! Vintage Barber Company is the only place I'll get my haircut. Kristin and Erica are assume, though I'm sure the rest are just as good.

First off this not the other location isn't really a barber shop. It's just any other hair cutting place with some ladies pulled from Sports clips and the like. Some years ago I had a terrible experience at the other location. A friend of mine gets his hair but here and kept trying to get me to give it a shot. I finally did and I can only say that I am glad that hair grows back as this is one of the worst hair cuts I have ever received. She didn't listen at all to what I wanted. I told her I like it messy and she cut it super clean. She claimed that it needed to be cut to part one way even though everyone else cuts it to part to the other side. Now it wants to stick up unless I put a ton of pomade in it. I straight razor my own neck and don't get razor burn yet she managed to give me razor burn. I definitely will not be back. read more

Be careful with George. Great haircut but the worst shave in my life and I have been getting barber shop shaves for over 60 years. The shave was totally uneven with lots of missed spots and a few razor nicks with blood. To add insult to injury the cost of the shave alone was 40 dollars. read more

I had scheduled an appointment and during my drive there I was delayed in traffic from an accident. I called to let them know I may be running a little late. I was informed that they have a 10 minute grace period before having to reschedule. I showed up 2 minutes after my scheduled time (well within the 10 minute grace period), and the barber I had made the appointment specifically for, Kiersten, decided that she was going to take her lunch break with her boyfriend during my scheduled appointment slot instead and then pawned me off to another barber that was currently cutting someone else's hair. Kierstens professionalism, or lack there of, was sub par and an absolute joke. I've been a regular customer of hers and to get blown off like that for an early lunch with the boyfriend DURING my appointment time says a lot about her character. Drove past the other day and noticed there was a new barber shop in the area. I happened to be looking for a new barber and hopefully one closer then downtown Norfolk. So you can image my surprise when I saw this place. Fast forward to today. Went in and expected a wait since I was just a walk in. But there was no wait. The lady asked me how I would like my hair and with my vague explanation of what I wanted she went to work. I can honestly say I was happy with the haircut and the friendly staff. I look forward to coming back. Oh, and if you are lucky you have to wait cause they have a mini fridge with drinks. read more

I waited until after my second visit. George cut my hair both times. I am 66 years old with a little thinning and George has cut my hair where this is not accentuated. Seniors get a discount. The cost is more than I was used too, but not exorbitant. The results made it worth it. read more

So this will be a relatively short review but I just moved to the area and I noticed this establishment was right down the road and I just needed a touch up to my haircut so I stopped in. Upon walking in was greeted immediately I didn't have an appointment but was seen instantly and even though my haircut was just a touch up I forgot to get her name but she did spot on just what I like even used a straight razor to edge it up. And then I was shocked because at the end of it they give you the back massage as they used to do in older barber shops. Oh and I was informed they have coffee and drinks in the refrigerator in the front for free. So yes I recommend this establishment and will return for another haircut. read more

Looked good so I got an appointment through their website, which was very user friendly. I'm so glad that I did. Great shop and Kiersten was awesome. Heard about a new Barber shop in town and decided to go check it out as they where no real good shops around town but the big chain shops. I walked in and was immediately blown away by the nostalgic design and easy going atmosphere. Chris the owner welcomed me and my brothers very quickly and was very informative of the business. Heck they even have a place in Greenbrier too! The employees new what and how we wanted to look. My brother had a monster 2 year beard and went from looking like a hobo to a chiseled up dude any lady would want lol. The prices where great and it was next to a Vape shop so my brother picked up some refills while there too. Definitely going to call this my Barber for life. He was very impressed with the small details while he was being taken care of. This isnt your regular stop for a cut place, it's a diamond in the rough.
