Im reading the bad reviews and I have to say I have never experienced anything but excellent service at this barber shop. I see people complain about the wait times, we'll to me if it's a full house that speaks for itself. I also saw a coment about the barber saying racist things ,7 I think while getting his hair cut. This barber shop has a Lady owner one white guy and a Puerto Rican. That sounds pretty diverse to me and ive never heard an out of line or racist comment. We waited over 2 hours to get my sons hair cut only to see the owner Jesus lock the door and proceed to tell us that he doesn't cut long hair. He asked the elderly gentleman next to him if he did and they told us to come back and have Lynda cut his hair. Although we appreciate the honesty, a two hour wait just to be sent away in a manner that we perceived as "let me go home" is unacceptable. I told her that I was trying something new by not going to a name brand styling place like hair cuttery and great clips. And she took very very very good care of me. One of the barbers told me to calm down then a customer asked me to shut up. So I told them all to F off... Freedom of speech is what our first amendment gives us. I forgot how liberating and chill it is to get a haircut. After years of DIY, #1 guard all the way around in the bathroom haircuts I decided to grow my hair out for a good month before deciding to make a move and find a spot in Virginia Beach that could give me a legit haircut. I'm glad I did my yelpsearch and happened upon Toppers because the hair is lookin fresh and ready for all the holiday parties for the next two weeks! When you enter the shop the first thing you'll probably notice is the old school cash register that looks like something out of an old Western movie you'd see on the History Channel or AMC. Along the walls are vintAge photos of barber shops and how the Virginia Beach Oceanfront looked BITD. I got there around 4PM on a Friday and there was a bench full of people waiting and 2 others standing. While I knew I'd be in for a considerable wait I figured it a good sign to have so many waiting. BTW, Be prepared to write your name in their sign in sheet when you come in. The shop has 4 barbers working at a time and the banter could be described as the typical catching up with customers and ribbing between barbers which is a good mix IMO because it keeps the mood light. Now onto the haircut. Bryce was my barber for this "special" occasion and he did not disappoint. I asked for a tapered look and wanted to keep the length I had on top with a 2 on the side. He went to work. The conversation was light and friendly, all the while he was thorough and relaxed in working his clippers. I found out through talking with him that he had about a year and a half of experience under his belt. I was not prepared for the level of detail that would follow after the initial haircut as he took to edging me up nice, sharp, and clean with a razor blade followed by some shaving cream to clean up the temples and the front even more. All in all the haircut took about a good 35 minutes for me so be prepared to chill and enjoy the precision being brought to your dome . My haircut cost $22 and was well worth it. He even took some photos for himself commenting on it was the best one he's done yet and the barber next to him also thought so which was a good feeling. I plan on making this my spot in the future to keep it lookin fresh and profesh for the new year! Hoping for the same consistency next time in case I don't get Bryce at the chair read more

The return of the clean cut is upon us. Toppers is a barber shop in Virginia Beach that specializes in men's hair, military cuts, slick backs, fa. Their chalk board says they do women's hair but I don't know any women who have been. They cut kids hair too! The spot has an old time feel and their staff is dressed in a vest, tie, and cap to complement it. They're all really friendly too. I stumbled across this little old school barber shop yesterday thanks to the Yelp App on my phone. I would have never known it existed otherwise. The barbers are all decked out in bow ties and vests and they really take the time to get your cut just right. They also finish up the cut with a hot lather blade shave on the back of your neck. Not too many barber shops do that anymore. You really only see it at dude Spa type places that charge you beaucoup dinero. $16 for a cut is reasonable in my book. I get my hair cut once a year. Like clockwork. June 5th. Every year since I've been born. Usually I do it myself, but after winning $100 on a scratch off lottery ticket next door, I thought I'd go in and save myself the time and effort spent vacuuming up all my hair. I recently had surgery on my throat and was unable to talk. Upon entering, I pointed to my hair, made scissors with my fingers, and made a "snip, snip" motion. They understood what I meant! It took about twenty minutes and although I nodded off for a few minutes, it turned out great. Guys usually don't care what their hair looks like and I'm no exception. When it was finally my turn after an hour and a half of waiting (whatever that's fine, at least they take their time to do a good job) the lady who was open called me up. First thing she said was, "you don't want a skin fade do you?" That didn't instill confidence. So now I have a "barber" who can't fade. I should have turned back right there. I told her, it doesn't have to be a skin fade, you can do a one or half guard. She didn't do that. Maybe a 2 at the shortest. Barely edged around my ears. The back is uneven. And she supremely messed up my hard part. Then I asked if she could take down the length of my beard and shape it. she made Two totally different lines on both sides of my face. Left random patches of hair on my throat. I had a poor experience for my first time going there. I'm sure there are people there who can cut but she could not, or she didn't care to on my cut. So I'll be wearing a hat for the next month. Thank god we are in a pandemic and I work virtually. read more
