3 hours into his first day of daycare, I got a call from the staff saying they found a quarter-sized wound on his stomach. No one had seen what happened to him but they confirmed it had not come from a dog scuffle of any kind, it was likely environmental. I was not immediately concerned. I've taken my dogs and family dogs to daycare for the last 15 years. I understand that when you play hard, sometimes you get hurt. But this was not like any injury I have ever seen on any of my other dogs who have been to daycare--even those who needed a few stitches. I will share a picture below, but after the vet shaved off the fur, it revealed a huge bruise and a round open wound that was about 1.5in. in diameter. After getting home with stitches and a bag of new drugs from the vet and seeing a charge for a full day of daycare from Vintage Dog Ranch, I called and asked if they could refund us for the day as we received a $664 vet charge for the injury he received in Vintage's care only 3 hours into the day. In response, they hesitantly gave me a 50% discount. In this entire experience, not one member of their staff apologized for what had happened or tried to rectify the situation to get me to come back since it was only my second time there. They very matter of fact said, "He got injured, we don't know what happened, let us know if you have any questions," and that was about it. On recommendation from my neighbor who has been taking her small dog there for years, I went to speak to one of their owners, Mike, in person. We spoke in a private back room where I expressed 3 concerns. One, that it was quite unsettling that my dog got such a bad injury from the environment in their yard that not a single person or camera witnessed (there are at least 10 staff members on property and no cameras). Two, that their staff did not seem to have any desire to rectify the situation to ensure my return to their business. And three, that they were hesitant to give me even half a day's refund, let alone the full refund I believe I deserved after my dog's traumatic experience and the expensive vet bill that followed. Throughout the time I spent explaining these concerns to Mike, I was met with extreme defensiveness. He interrupted me multiple times as I was speaking to interject his "expertise" or reasoning as to why what I was saying may not be right, with something along the lines of, "I'm not trying to stop you mid-sentence, but..." Some of his most concerning responses: "You feel this way because this is your dog." "I'm not trying to diminish your feelings, but I have thousands of dogs come through here every year and we have been doing this for 25 years. This level of injury has maybe happened 5 times in those 25 years." When I asked what they had discussed internally about the potential cause of his injury, "That's something we discuss internally and don't usually share, but I can share that with you if you want." When asked how long they leave their dogs completely unsupervised, he said, "I can't really tell you--is it 10 minutes, 20 minutes, an hour? It varies, I couldn't give you a straight answer." Instead of providing a solution or earnestly trying to make me feel safe enough to bring my dog back, he put the solution on me saying, "What is it that you were looking for when you came to talk to me today?" Though the owners did let me do a lap around the yard and eventually agreed to fix some things in the environment (though I have not heard from them in a month about these improvements), after hearing the way he spoke about our dog ("you feel this way because it's your dog"), constantly being interrupted, and listening to him diminish the incident down to a number in the thousands he's dealt with, we will not be coming back--and I encourage everyone to reconsider bringing their dog to Vintage Dog Ranch. The girls who work there are lovely, but this is just a business to the owners, Mike and Brian. Imagine if you took your kid to daycare, they got a deep wound that no one witnessed, and the owner couldn't tell you how it happened or how long your kid had been left unsupervised. I'm pretty sure all parents would agree with me in saying they would never be bringing their children back to that daycare. Think twice before choosing Vintage Dog Ranch. read more

I don't often leave reviews on Yelp, but felt this was an essential call out. Vintage Kennel Club is my dog Tillie's "happy place." When we pull up, she goes crazy and cannot wait to be freed from her seat to go with whichever beloved staff member picks her up. She covers them with kisses, usually on their ears and her tail is wagging at the speed of sound. She cannot wait to see all her furry friends and pals. They play and play all day. Tillie gets bathed once a week and this keeps her long fur from getting matted. The best news is that when I board her, Tillie is never anxious or suspects my leaving. Because she is so at home here. Mike and Brian and the whole staff care so much about all the dogs. I brought Tillie here as a puppy and she has been very well-socialized and grown into the adorable, well-adjusted 1 1/2 year old she is today. I feel honored that Tillie has a home here. I am beyond disappointed that I kept my dog at Vintage as long as I did. We had our pup bathed almost every week but when we went in for grooming they said he needed to be shaved down. As a new dog mom I went ahead and let them do it. He came home with hot spots and bleeding ears. I continued taking my pup for playtime and again when time for a hair cut they said he was matted and needed to be shaved. This time I said no way and they agreed to brush him each week to work the mats out. After about four weeks of them brushing him they again said he needed to be shaved down. I ended up taking him to Groomingdales where they said he was hardly matted at all, took an inch off and he has a darling new haircut. Susan flat out told me they could make three times as much bathing another dog than they could brushing my dog. We took our dog there for a year but he wasn't worth their time when they could make a quick buck on a short haired dogs bath. In addition to the problem with grooming I think being in the kennel for 12 hours alone is too much for any dog. No cameras or photos of our dog when he was there really made me scared. They were quite rude telling me I did not know what my dog needed thinking that 12 hours was too long. I know my dog likes to be with other people and pets. They saw my dog as $$$ and nothing else. I feel sad that I trusted them for a year even though my gut instinct was that the place was bad. My out of state sister can watch her dog play on line and someone is there all night with the pups. I asked Brian about this and he said he didn't because couples would argue about it. Our current dog sitter sends us videos of our dog every day. I am just happy I found a new place that Enzo adores and I know they care about him. read more

This place is amazing!!! My only qualm is that they aren't located any closer to me! I was actually working at another kennel when I had my dogs board here so my standards were pretty high. These guys surpassed my expectations at every level! I wanted my dogs close by for the weekend while I was getting married in wine country because that's just the kind of insanely protective pet parent that I am. I took my dogs in for the initial trial day of daycare and orientation (it was pretty early @ 9am, especially coming from the east bay but I love my dogs!) The place smelled good when I walked in!?!? I have NEVER been in any kind of dog business (pet store, kennel, vet, etc.) that smelled so fresh. The facilities were neat, clean, and organized and not just for a kennel-for any place in general-so impressive! The gentleman giving the tour answered all of my questions (I had many) and definitely put my anxieties to rest. What I liked: -Facility is super clean -The dogs are out all day except for a midday break in the afternoon and in the evening for bedtime. I really appreciate knowing exactly what I am paying for and the peace of mind that my dogs are not just going to be in a crate all day. -Small dogs and big dogs have their own separate yards so they are never in contact with one another. -There is a specific check-in and out time for their clients so there isn't chaos in the lobby during a "rush" -Very affordable rates! -They only have a manageable amount of dogs at their kennel at any given time so things run smoothly and dogs don't get forgotten. Some of My Concerns: -Office is closed on Sundays so you can't pick-up or drop-off your dog on those days which was an inconvenience for me. -They use squirt bottles to monitor dogs' behavior which I don't like because I believe in positive reinforcement ONLY. -Dogs sleep in separate crates so there is no sharing of crates for housemates (which my dogs are most used to) -I had to ask for my dogs' food leftovers which they said they typically don't give back (extra food that I had given the kennel for my dogs stay) -My dog who had been bathed didn't have that "clean dog smell" which made me suspicious but it may have been the soap they used. If my dogs ever need to board in wine country again then this is the place they will be going to! read more

I checked into all the pet boarding places in Napa and Sonoma. The only one that I would even consider leaving my dog with, is Vintage Kennel Club in Sonoma. My dog has been going to day care once a week since then and he boards there whenever I go on vacation. Vintage Kennel Club is wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a day care or boarding place for their dogs. The owners and staff are incredible; very friendly, professional and helpful. They really care about all the dogs and are all animal lovers. The dogs are grouped together (in huge play areas ) according to their personality and energy. The facility is big, beautiful and very clean. It is in the middle of acres of farmland, mountains and grapevines. The dogs have lots of room to play in the outdoor areas and the indoor crate areas (for nap times and overnight stays) are kept spotless. My dog LOVES going to Vintage Kennel Club. Every time we get close to VKC, he gets so excited, he jumps up and down on the car seat. When we arrive, he literally runs to the door! We have taking our dogs to the Vintage Kennel Club for several years. A few years ago we moved to San Francisco and to avoid the drive to the Sonoma Valley tried kennels closer to the City, but they simply did not match up to the incredible care and attention offered by the on-site owners (Mike and Brian) and staff at the Vintage Kennel Club. Finally because our dog began having a real problem with separation anxiety when we would board him at other kennels we returned to VKC and those problems all disappeared. I think I am a fan so far but I don't honestly feel that after one visit I can honestly say how good or bad it is....I need at least a few more visits to confidently give a review. I will say they seem very organized and friendly. I dropped my puppy off for the day....and they told me to take off the dogs collar. I had to ask a friend to pick him up and she didn't have a collar or leash with her thinking that I would have left that with him. My friend felt that it was a bit wierd not having the collar on....honestly they must have a reason to take the collar off ...but I have no idea why.
