We've taken Rowdy here twice. They are great and can accommodate all types of dogs up to police and personal protection. Rowdy is a 113#+ unaltered male Rottweiler. My Dogs first time being at a kennel, I'm glad it was here.... My dog is a like a kid to me, Family, so I researched places inside and out, then finally picked Maranda Ranch with reviews, and talking to other pet owners. My dog / Kupa has bad Anxiety, and sometimes, but not always, doesn't get along with other dogs... So needless to say I actually called a few places , or people and they wouldn't take him cause of that issue, which I understand, but where am I gonna take him, also I just don't want anyone to watch him.. We love this place to board our 2 cardigan corgis. They get to share a kennel, and always come back to us tired and happy. Mary Beth works with them on leash manners, and has gotten them caught up on vaccinations when they got behind. As soon as we pull up the dogs run in and barely look back at us. We left our six month old golden retriever here for the last couple days over New Years so that we could have a get away. My puppy must have had an incredible time. When I showed up to pick him up, he was barely excited to see me (I expected him to freak out like usual with excitement, but he was having way too much fun with the other dogs). Then we brought him home, and he has basically been asleep the entire day (he got a great amount of exercise while being boarded) Both make me quite happy. I was always afraid that kenneling meant locking the dog in a cage for a couple days. That couldn't be further from the truth at Maranda. 100% recommend Maranda Ranch! My husband and I are doggy parents to a nervous, but playful and energetic, 40 lb Viszla. In the past, we had boarded elsewhere simply because we didn't know of Maranda Ranch. When our previous kennel requested we use anti-depressants to bring our pup in (something that was never a requirement over the several years we had boarded there), we began looking elsewhere. We stumbled across Maranda Ranch, and their focus on dog anxieties drew us in. Of course our girl was nervous when we left for Mexico for a week, and so were we, but the demeanor of the staff really made me fully trust the decision to board her there. You walk into the kennels, and you just know they have control of the environment. For the owners of an anxious pup, there's nothing better! We were so happy to know she had a great time, was well behaved, and sociable during her stay. Being told, "We'd love to have her back!", is such a huge relief, and we could not be more grateful for the care they provided our little lady! Maranda Ranch was SUCH a solid find for us. Our 7-year-old fur baby is a pit bull/ lab mix and unfortunately isn't allowed at most daycares in Napa due to "breed restrictions". Even though he is the sweetest, most good-est boy, the rules are the rules. We found Maranda through a friend of ours and brought Noa there in a pinch when we were going out of town for almost a week. They took him without hesitation, simply making sure all of his shots were in order. He has been there twice now, and the staff there absolutely loves him! Not only did they accept him without judgement, but they evaluated his behavior in a group and made sure he was with the right playmates for his personality during his stay. My fiancé and I truly feel a part of the Maranda family and are so grateful they take such wonderful care of our baby. They also offer active and veteran military discounts, just another plus. One of these days, Noa isn't going to want to come back home because he has too much fun there! 10/10 in our book! read more

We like the people at Maranda and have left our dog there on several occasions. However, we had an unfortunate bad experience here recently. Our dog has gut issues and is on a strict diet with daily medication. We left his food and medication with clear instructions which we reviewed with Maranda when we dropped off the dog. When I picked up the dog one week later they returned most of his food (which had spoiled) and ALL the medication. His back side was covered in diarrhea. So, they not only disregarded his dietary routine but they did not even have the courtesy to wash the dog before returning to us. I called to let them know because we hope they'd want to ensure that this would not happen again. They apologized. Too bad - they seem to be nice people. read more

This really is a ranch in the lovely countryside with animals nearby...all kinds of lovely animals. This was our first boarding experience with our Lab. This kennel is probably the cleanest boarding kennel that I've ever seen. The staff is very attentive to cleanliness! In addition, they are all very cheerful and responsive. They make sure all dogs have time in the yard, no matter their temperament, even if it means they are by themselves. The yards are separated for smaller dogs and larger dogs. There is plenty for the dogs to explore safely and there is shade in the yards as well. The kennels are air conditioned/heated and each dog has its own small run. It is a large kennel, but they have a great handle on timing and structure to make sure all dogs are given attention. The only thing you should be aware of is that the entire yard is gravel or cement. This is great if your dog has any grass or weed allergies, but it can be tough on their paws if they are not used to it. Our pup had tender feet, so he came home licking his back paw with an abrasion on it. Other than that, GREAT kennel. read more

I used them based on Yelp reviews and I am glad I did. I needed someone to watch my pooch for a few hours while we went kayaking during the 4th of July week. This place loves dogs! The staff is attentive and friendly. It seems best suited to large, social, energetic dogs and my dog is the opposite but they matched her with dogs like her and at the end of the day, she was happy and content. I have been taking my dog (a beagle 10 years old) here for the last 4 years. The property is wonderful. There are chickens in the yard, cows and goats in fields and wide open spaces. My dog can get a little loud sometimes since she's a beagle, but they don't have any complaints. They are much more affordable that the other kennels in the east bay, even though they are a ways out. The only complaint I have is that they aren't open for Sundays, so you have to wait until Monday to pick up your dog if you leave it over the weekend, though they don't charge your for morning pickups. read more

It's like a dog's great come true. We were at a wedding in Sonoma for the weekend and boarded our young Catahoula here during Labor Day. Being only his second time at boarding, we weren't sure how he was going to be since we had boarded him for the first time just a week before. But when we came to pick him up, he didn't even recognize us and was bouncing around happily as if he didn't want to leave! We have been taking our two dogs here for five years. Maranda is by far the best kennel we've ever known. When we took Foxy to the Santa Cruz kennel she shrank back, begged us not to leave her--painful. At Maranda she and Blanco start wagging their tails as soon as we turn into the driveway and trot off to their home away from home without looking back. This kennel was recommended to me by my vet, who takes his own dog there. How much more of a recommendation did I need? I've now become a regular customer myself, boarding both my two dogs and my two cats at Miranda Ranch. While this review will largely be about the dog boarding, I'll talk about the situation for cats at the end. Miranda Ranch is located halfway between Sonoma and Napa, and it's pure country. You enter down a dirt drive, with horses in the field and chickens crossing the road. (Why do they do that?) This is not a fancy spa like space for people; it's simply heaven on earth for the canine set. The owners know dogs. Both worked as trainers (and may still, for all I know) at Guide Dogs for the Blind, and they understand and appreciate that dogs are their own unique creatures and not people in fur suits. They provide what dogs want -- space, security, lots of time for interaction with people and other dogs -- and skip the stuff they could care less about (artwork on the walls, fancy furniture, etc.). Dogs are provided with spacious individual runs shaded by huge old live oaks and spend lots of time in supervised play with other dogs in the shared common space. (If you have a small dog, no worries; the little guys have their own housing, yard and play groups.) The staff is strict about ensuring all animals are up to date on their shots and they carefully screen dogs for temperament before deciding with whom they can safely play. The staff will administer needed meds, feed special diets, etc., but above all, they will love, respect and care for you dog as if it were their own. In the end, I love Miranda Ranch because my dogs do. They surge out of the car when we arrive, happy to be back and eager for the adventure. They come home exhausted, happy and healthy, which is exactly what I want. It's a great, great place for dogs. As for cats, it's great for them too, as long as they aren't freaked out by dogs. My guys are practically dogs themselves, highly social and unflappable. They were housed in a very spacious run of their own in the small dog section, and could not see the dogs or be seen by them. They had a front room and a back room, far larger than the kennels offered by the other cat boarding facilities I'd visited, and again, the staff spent tons of time with them. We were very, very happy with the cat accommodations, but it's best for cats who like a little adventure and are curious about what's going around them. As with dogs, the kennel provides what cats (rather than their owners) need -- absolute security, lots of space and tons of attention. It doesn't have bling-encrusted beds, daily massages or special music for high-strung Precious. Then again, perhaps Precious would love a chance to go to the country and just be a cat again! So take your friends to Miranda Ranch and know they'll be given the very best of care. It's a great place. read more
