We recently had all the floors and stairs in our new home installed by Vintage. Steve Purcell was our point person for the flooring. His customer service was second to none. His professionalism couple by his pleasant nature made him a pleasure to deal with. The flooring installers did a beautiful job with the engineered hardwood, ceramic tile and vinyl flooring. We asked them to replace a few tiles and boards that were not to our liking after they had done the install. They were replaced flawlessly and without complaint. We couldn't be happier with the results. Daryl was our point person on the stairs. He understood exactly what we wanted for our cable rail system and overall look. His very experienced installer, Gordie, completed expertly crafted stairs. It is not to say that there were no bumps in the road, but they were handled without complaint and the end result exceeded our expectations. We had all our flooring and stairs installed in our new home by Vintage Hardwood Flooring. Steve Purcell assisted us in our flooring selection through to installation. His professionalism coupled with his true kind nature resulted in customer service second to none! The installer did excellent work. After the initial install, we asked them to change a few ceramic tiles and hardwood boards that were not to our liking due to variations in pattern. They did so without complaint and with such precision that we couldn't see where the work had been done. Our flooring experience couldn't have been better! Daryl assisted us with the stairs. We had a cable rail system with oak treads along with a unique skirting and riser set in channels under the tread to give a modern look. This was a unique and difficult install. Their installer, Gordie, was very experienced and up to the task. As with many custom projects, we ran into a few snags along the way but the Vintage team worked hard to meet our expectations and the final result exceeded those expectations. We love our stairs. They are criminals both the owner and his brother read this: Darrel: I left Nova Scotia back in the nineties and went to the US for about ten years and then back to BC where I am originally from, I haven't been back to Nova Scotia in Many years but now I have no choice but to go back and clean things up as they are effecting my lifestyle out here in that I can't get personal credit because of these same issue all of which have to do with Maritime Hardwood. Given that all of these problems and issues I have going on back there of course involve you and all of the employees of Maritime Hardwood in that there will be significant damages paid not only to me but the employees I had at that time. Damages will be paid by the Nova Scotia Provincial tax commission and Credit Union Atlantic and you. Settlement proceedings have started with the Credit union and the Tax Dept. but will have to wait until the police investigation is completed on you and your brother before I can entertain settlement discussions with you and your brother for fraud, theft and whatever else they end up charging you with. I can however give you an opportunity to mitigate damages and start paying me some money... either me directly or to my lawyer in downtown Halifax. I have the same lawyer I had back then and he is well familiar with this case and you. I think it would be an excellent idea for you to put 5000.00 into my legal fund which is going to pay for settling all these issues and will eventually benefit you... maybe. What a disappointment. Referred to Vintage by our contractor for flooring for a basement renovation project, we had a very positive first experience: knowledgeable sales rep, quality product (Mirage engineered hardwood) and a discounted price. Little did I know that I was at the top of the slippery slope of disappointment. The first disappointment was in the staff sent to rebuild a set of stairs in our 1930's arts and crafts style house. He was junior, inexperienced and sent to work by himself. Turns out that treads for the stairs were made facing the wrong way. Just the first glimpse at a lack of attention to detail: treads cam back made in the correct direction but too long and had to be cut down leaving me to wonder if the mill shop staff had read the work order. A series of calamities followed. Nosing that was incorrectly installed. The staff sent to fix it and actually damaged it. The floor itself was installed on concrete overpour infloor heating whose variances were never verified by the Vintage staff (a key step to proper installation) so when the subcontractor showed up to install it, he told me that if it was his own house he would not install the floor--yet another delay. On and on, the debacle continued--Vintage not showing up when they said they would, staff not having the correct tools to do a job, excess of supplies being delivered--until when I now hear the name Vintage I automatically cover my ears and our contractor of 15 years has said he will never work with them again. The floor and the stairs turned out fine, but it'll take a long time to forget this painful process. Great product. Just get someone else to install it. read more

Where to begin. Need to replace some hardwood and ceramic on the main level of my home. Went to Vintage and spoke to sales person who was very knowledgeable and fourth coming with information. Decided I would get a formal quote after being given a price per SQft verbally. Well after several follow up emails asking for the quote I was given a price that was not the same at all as what was discussed. Was then quoted another price verbally on a different width wood. After several more reminder emails and voice mails I was once again quoted a different price what was significantly higher. So I decided on what I wanted and requested it quoted again. Then requested it again, and than again. Finally got my quote. It couldn't have been more wrong. He quoted all hardwood, when I need roughly half ceramic and half hardwood. Called and left voice mail. Finally today I called the manager who promised me that I would receive my quote and that he would speak to the sales person. He apologized and I thought I was back on the right track. Minutes later the sales person did return my phone call. He stated they he didn't know which rooms were to be ceramic and which were to be hardwood. (the measurements were taken by the owner of Vintage who visited my home 2 week previously) He then stated "that was 3 bedrooms right" When actually it is a kitchen dinning room and den. I was promised to have a phone call returned within the hour. That was 6 hours ago and I am done waiting. Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time even going in the store. I have wasted over a month and still don't have even a quote, let alone a floor. read more

I agree with the other reviews. Buy the product and let somebody else to install it. Luckily I got frustrated with them even before they had a chance to install anything, because they wouldn't return my phone calls with a scheduled date of installation, despite promising to do it quick. I understand that anybody can be busy, just say so and set the correct expectations instead of running away from the phone. Finally hired a guy from Kijiji ad and he made everything perfectly and twice as cheap. read more

Finally.... Peter carpet to the house and looked at the carpet. He looked around, touched every seam easily without having to look hard to find them. Told me that Darrel (the owner) doesn't know what he's talking about and said that everything looks fine but he would talk to Darrel and call me in two days. Fast forward about a week and a half and Peter offered to come back and try to fix a few of the seams but most were fine. He did warn is that trying to fix the seams (that he admits are sub-standard) may cause the problem to get worse and they will not guarantee anything. Needless to say, I'm not going to have them back to make the problem worse. Do yourself a favour and stay far away from this company! read more

This place is a joke,went into the show room gave them the name of tiles we had chosen,owner came into our home took measurements and video of work to be done.Waited a week for quote.called to see what was delay,was given lame excuse( someone else was at fault ) received quote a few days later but was told installer would have to see job before it (price) was finalized,told he would be here on Fri.(no show)(no call).Called again.asked if they were interested in my business,was assured installer would be here in two days time,again no show ,no call.I have wasted enough time with these people and have given the contract to another dealer,Do yourself a favor shop elsewhere. read more

We had Vintage Flooring install ceramic tile in our kitchen and then put in hardwood flooring in our living room. Both jobs were well done from start to finish. Vintage isn't the cheapest, but we feel the quality of their products is better than you can get for the same price elsewhere. The salesperson (Steve) was knowledgeable and helpful. Vintage was willing to knock off a charge on the tile install because I took out the dishwasher myself. We could have gotten something knocked off the hardwood install too, but I decided to have Vintage remove and dispose of the carpeting. The ceramic tile install took one-half day more than expected, but we were okay with that because we'd rather have a carefully done grout job. The job was cheaper than estimated because the tile installer determined he didn't have to put in a plywood base. He was right because the tile feels solid. We made a last minute change in the quarter-round colour, but that was accommodated without any question or delay. The hardwood flooring estimator gave us particularly good advice about how to protect the flooring. After the job was done, I thought we hadn't gotten the extra unused tiles we paid for. I called & Steve said he'd get some more if he couldn't find the surplus tiles. It turns out that wasn't necessary because the installers put the tiles and part of a bag of tile adhesive out of the way in the garage. A complimentary floor treatment kit for the hardwood was provided and a small can of extra color stain we supplied for the quarter-round (matching our cabinets) was brought back to us. In other words, they paid attention to detail. Bottom line: we'd use them again. read more

Terrible experience! Vintage installed our wood stairs and railings in our new home construction. After six months of light use the stain on the stairs treads, risers and side paneling began to wear off. It looked horrible! After contacting vintage (in person and on the phone several times) they finally sent out a specialist to look at it. The specialist informed us that the stairs needed to be completely sanded down and refinished at our cost. I ended up having another company fix the problem since they did not seem interested in customer satisfaction & standing by their product. Needless to say I was very disappointed and would not recommend their services to anyone. read more

Don't go here. Because I was moving from out-of-province, I had to do everything on line. I went with Vintage because I thought I had seen great reviews. What a mistake. Not their fault but 40% of the flooring was defective. Took a month to have the replacement foreign come in and finally installed. Since I was in isolation (new resident to the bubble) my son dealt directly with Ralph the installer. He told my son that the floors had to be levelled and would cost an additional $2,500- $3,000. I spoke to the saleswoman who suggested that I deal directly with Ralph on the levelling. Which I did. When done the levelling came in at an additional $3,650. I did renegotiate the price with Ralph down to $3,000. Levelling- can't put anything under the kitchen window because there's a 1.5" dip in the floor. Ralph said he'd fix it for the $650 he had deducted. I declined because after a months delay, I needed to move in. Once I moved in I found that nothing in this place is level. Tried to put a dresser in the bedroom.....there's a 3" slope over 8 feet. Have to prop one end of the dresser up with two pieces of flooring to be semi-level. Called the manager of Vintage Flooring and left a voice mail. That was 2 months ago with no one calling back. Today I heard from Ralph. He said he was told to fix the floor! What a joke. I'm not letting him tear up my place again. read more

Poor quality people. I hired this company to take the old floors out of my house and lay new hardwood. The crew that came to my house were very rough and unprofessional. The language, stopping to take smoke breaks every 45 mins or so and just rough with taking the wood out of my house etc. I have a few dings now in the walls and when they left there were pieces of wood on my driveway. The salesman I dealt with over-estimated the amount of wood I needed by almost 25% and after the new floor was laid down, there were two spongy places in the floor and one squeaked badly. I had to call and go in a few times, then threaten to get a lawyer involved before they would send the guy back out to take up part of the floor and re-lay it. Not to mention the high price of taking the old floor up, buying the new wood and laying it. Sky high prices for a redneck quality job. Go with a larger company instead of this poorly run "family owned" shop. read more

Very frustrated with the service, after several visits to the store, picking out materials for a bedroom floor and fireplace/wall tiles, Vintage flooring failed to get back to us, even after dropping by to check in and schedule some installs, we were told that our service rep was out, but that a note would be left on his computer to contact us as soon as he gets back. No call. I really needed this work done in a timely manner, and having to go to another flooring company and start the process all over again has been a huge inconvenience, and very fusterating. I've had a terrible experience with contractors, mostly not delivering on their timeline, and would have expected a little better from Vintage flooring. I would give my right arm for a contractor/service that could deliver in a timely mater - or at least get back to me in a timely matter after spending the better part of the day picking out materials in their store, with several follow up visits due to no call. On two separate occasions I was told Vintage would get back to me ASAP, even after stopping in short of a week later - no follow up call, just left standing with an open wallet. read more

Extremely disappointed with the service. I have an old home and was looking into having the old floors either refinished or installing new floor. Someone came to assess our floors and sent quotes on prices for refinishing vs new floor installation (after I badgered him to send the quote). At each point of contact it took days to get a hold of anyone to discuss next steps. After we decided that we wanted to refinish the floors we had to wait for a visit from the "refinisher". The first time he was scheduled to come he just didn't show up and no one could get a hold of him. So we wasted an afternoon waiting around for him. Then when he finally did come a few days later he told me that he saw no reason that the floors couldn't be refinished, although it would be alot of work since they are old and had a lot of staples from the previous subfloor. After that I was anxious to schedule the job to start. I had to call twice before someone finally got back to me three days later. At that point the manager decided he didn't want to do the job. I assume that its because its a job that would take longer the average refinishing job and he didn't feel it would be worth his companies time. In the end we WASTED 4 weeks dealing with these people and now have to find someone else to do our floors. I definitely would not recommend dealing with this company. They do not respect the time of their customers. A company that's been doing this for so long should have been able to tell me before 4 weeks that they didn't want to redo my floors.
