When you're shopping for new flooring for your home, not only is quality, pricing and availability important; so is customer service! I will never shop anywhere else other than Taylor Flooring. I went into this store looking for some quotes on carpet. My cat tore up carpet in the home that I was renting and when my lease was up in the home, I had to replace the carpet. I shopped around for weeks looking for the right deal. I didn't want to invest too much money as it wasn't my home but at the same time, I wanted to get something equivalent to what she had. I went into the store and was blown away by the wonderful help I received. They helped match carpet almost identical to what was there previously and they also get me a wonderful deal. I ended up finding carpet and including the installation, it was only $600 compares to the other quotes of $1200+. I was so pleased with the service, quality and price, that I wrote a thank you letter to the owner expressing my satisfaction. I highly recommend this location! read more

When I found out that the folks at Taylor were installing the floors in the condo where I'll be moving, I was curious and stopped by to take a look at their products. Wow! They have a wide variety of floor styles to choose from, ranging from basic carpets, to ceramic tile, to classy hardwoods, to quality laminates that you'd swear were the real deal (LOVE the Armstrong brand laminate!!) There are quality floor options for virtually every price range. If you're dealing with any of the friendly staff, I highly recommend Michelle- not only is she great to talk to, she's great at providing interior design ideas (when I move in to my new place, I need to paint a few rooms- Michelle suggested beautiful wall colors that will coordinate with my new floors and countertops. We contracted Taylor to do a bathroom tile job surrounding a newly installed tub on new materials. Amanda at Taylor in Dartmouth was our point of contact for sales, and provided some useful insight and assistance in selecting the product we wished to use. We were out of town when the tradesman was available to do the install. The installation itself earned the low rating for Taylor. The rectangular tiles were unevenly spaced, set at varying depths making the finished job look and feel uneven, and installed 90 degrees off of our desired layout (vertically as opposed to horizontally - which to be fair never came up in the installation plan: we assumed they would be placed horizontally like so many of the bathroom tile jobs we had seen). I have never tiled a bathroom - but am certain that I could have done better with a little guidance from youtube. Taylor flooring was unwilling to correct the job overall, but assured us they would send an very experienced technician over to correct one of the tiles. They sent the same installer back. There are a lot of options for tiling in Halifax/Dartmouth. I have not had experience with them, but have seen many beautiful bathroom tiling installations in Dartmouth homes. I recommend you do your homework, including seeing some examples of finished work, before choosing Taylor Flooring for your installation. Skip, our salesperson, was personable and knowledgeable and showed us products in the range we were looking. If you're looking for stair work to be complete, steer clear. My fiance and I put down a $3200 deposit for a staircase and had our appointment backed up three weeks due to a knee injury that the contractor had (totally fair). A half hour after the scheduled time of arrival of the contractor, he texted me telling me to call Taylor Flooring, who he'd informed that "he no longer wanted to do the job". Taylor flooring basically told me that I'm SOL because that was their only stair guy, and told me to come in so that they could refund me my money. Great. This meant at least another four weeks until I could get a completed staircase, considering that I would have to find a contractor, get an estimate, order new wood, stain it to match my existing flooring, and then actually get someone to come in to do it. Taylor flooring suggested that they sell me the staircase that they had already made for my unit, to which I was happy to hear and explore this option. A week later, and I'm still unable to get an actual quote from the company as to how much the materials would be to purchase. I have called multiple sales associates, and spoken to the manager a few times, who keeps assuring me that someone will get back to me. For a company that stresses customer satisfaction, their primary "strategy" is to just apologize to the customer, rather than try to actually fix the problem or help them in any way once an issue does arise. I would not recommend Taylor Flooring to anyone. Steer clear if you want your project to be done efficiently, effectively, and within a reasonable timeline (and price point). read more

My wife and I were having a new home built. Our builder deals with Taylor flooring. We went into the show room in Dartmouth to pick out our flooring over 100 days in advance of our closing so everything was ready to go, no last minute issues. Derek Taylor calls us less then 2 weeks before our house is going to close to let us know the flooring is "back ordered". I don't understand how this is possible when we ordered over 100 days in advance. It sounds to me like they didn't want to have money tied up in inventory that far in advance and ordered it late. This of course causes issues for us as we have built the house around certain flooring colors/design/stains/railings etc. So we go ahead and pick out a different flooring we are less then pleased with just to finish the house on time. We come in for our inspection of the finished product and Taylor's work was atrocious! They should have been thoroughly embarrassed. We had ALL of the following issues: Taylor tiled over the shelf in our custom tile shower (Derek was made aware well in advance of the shelf and the different tile that was supposed to be inside of it) Chipped tiles were installed in the shower - They had to come back FOUR times in order to fix. The first time they took out the tile and had no replacement (great, now our shower is useless) They came back again with a tile that was close but still wrong. Returned a third time with the correct tile, installed & grouted it with the WRONG grout. Came back a fourth time to fix with the correct grout. The installers made it clear that they never even checked the grout and just assumed the one they put in was the correct one as that's what "most people use". There fix for one of the chipped/cracked tiles was to cover over it with a permanent marker. They said removing it would be too risky to the structure! They put laminate into the kitchen where we asked for Tile (Floor plan was given to Taylor and VERY clearly marked what goes where). Transition strips between tile & laminate flooring and rooms were lifted, raised, cut with chips, not attached at all, or attached with glue/cement oozing from the sides and onto the flooring, clearly visible. To Top it all off, the laminate they pushed on us because the stuff we originally ordered was "back ordered" was FULL of defects. 30% of the boards did not have the finish coat on them. This was very clear & very obvious and yet Taylor installed it anyway. The planks with the finish were dark brown, the ones without the finish or partially with finish were grey. They then tell us they can't fix it until they get more stock in. We therefore have to close on the house (as we had to be out of our other house) bring in all of out stuff, get the house set up. (You have friends, family, co-workers who want to see the place and its embarrassing to show in this state after you spent that much money). We then have to move all of our stuff from pretty much all the rooms as most were done in laminate so they can reinstall. No cleaners were sent back to clean up there mess, the job was a disgrace over all. I would never purchase from Taylor again, even if there product was 50% cheaper than other flooring companies. They turned a joyous time of moving into a new house to a huge headache. Derek Taylor represented the company poorly and was unapologetic for there mistakes and in NO WAY made it up to us. I am not a person who is spiteful or uneasy to please, I was more then impressed with all other contractors and with the builder overall. I expect when I am paying good money for a house & flooring and go out of my way to make sure all contractors have our selections, location of the selections and ALL details WELL in advance that they do it right & don't give me excuses like I don't understand how things work. Derek, you know damn well the flooring was not on "back order" and you screwed it up. I would have been more patient with honesty and simply said a mistake was made and apologies. I have never posted a review on anything but I thought this deserved one. I was shopping around for laminate flooring for my rec-room and hallway downstairs. I have oak hardwood flooring upstairs. I was looking for something that wouldn't clash with the hardwood since my stairs are also a light coloured oak. After I waited to speak to the salesman for about 20 minutes (I was told he could give me some prices and perhaps some design insight), chosen a few samples that I was interested in, he proceeded to tell me that he had absolutely nothing to offer me that would go well with oak and that I should do more "research". Really? I had found about 3 possible floor samples that I was interested in but he literally gave me the names of two different flooring stores (floors plus and vintage flooring) and told me to go there. I felt so awkward that I didn't feel like I could ask for the samples - which I wouldn't have anyways. I ended up going to Vintage Flooring who helped me out greatly and I've purchased all my flooring through them - Taylor floorings loss of a few thousand dollars. I am 26 years old and I am aware I look younger than that. The way I was spoken to was not with respect at all - whether it be that I looked like a young inexperienced girl or not, I will not be returning to this store. read more
