Went here the 15th October for dinner. Couple of people in town recommended it. Awful experience. I would consider the service very poor and slow. The French onion soup wasn't bad but the dinner was barely warm to on the cold side the dill sauce on the schnitzel had started to skim like it had been setting for a while. Absolutely wonderful food! Wait staff are very friendly and eager to help with wine selection and the extensive menu of German entrees.

This used to be the place for authentic German food in Hermann. While the winery is still great the restaurant has taken a turn for the worst (no pun intended). The wait staff are OK at best, not very attentive or knowledgeable, and the entrees just do not have the sparkle and punch they once did. We had a group of 14 put our name in with the hostess or mgr not sure who she was. She was less than thrilled we were there. She told us we would have to split up which we said was ok. Then she said you probably won't even be in the same room. We said that was fine. She said it would be about a 20 min wait to seat us but she could seat the first 4 now. We said no we would rather wait and be seated all at once rather than eating in shifts. There was a bench in the lobby and one of our party said she was going to sit down and the hostess very rudely said no we all needed to wait outside. Very rude but thought maybe it was covid precautions in place. But when I came in to check on our table the bench and lobby as well as an adjoining room with table and chairs not being used for Dining seating was full of people waiting. All of these areas were empty when we put our name in. Our server was very sweet but the service was not the greatest. We ordered our Mayo on the side and it came out with it on the sandwich. I ordered a glass of ice to go with my water as there was no ice in any of the waters when they were delivered. That was also forgotten. My friend ordered a sandwich and wanted to sub a salad for fries and was charged $4 which was the same price my husband and I were charged when we ordered a side salad and still got our fries. I can fully overlook mistakes by a server and would absolutely have gone back if just that. But rude service by the woman who took our name and seated us is unacceptable. Never ok to be rude to a guest!! So for that reason we will not be back. read more

I was extremely dissatisfied with this restaurant. The location and building were beautiful, however the food was barely edible. I had the Schnitzel with a Jaeger sauce, no it was not a Jaeger sauce -- that's just what they called it. It was like eating cardboard with some sort of goopy, red wine infused mushroom sauce. I've lived in Germany and looked forward to eating in a traditional German restaurant. However, this was not it. The house salad dressing was so sweet that it made the salad difficult to eat. I found this to be a lovely restaurant. The atmosphere was both romantic and family friendly. The food was good, but don't go there expecting upscale dining. This a small town restaurant with a quaint and simple atmosphere, offering limited choices, but a nice list of wines. I read reviews on TripAdvisor and Yelp and I was excited to try the food here. We were traveling from St. Louis back to Kansas City during Memorial Day weekend and wanted to have some fun exploring the MO Wine Trail. We left our home for 3 weeks and traveled with our two friendly Labradors which doesn't make things easy. After tasting wines at Stone Hill our plan was to have an enjoyable wine picnic with our dogs on the lawn. It was way to hot to leave them in the car. I asked the lady at the winery if the restaurant does take out. She wasn't sure and said sometimes. I went to the Vintage and asked the girl and she said sure and gave me a paper menu. I took it outside got my husbands order. Another girl was at the desk and she said she could only do appetizers or dessert, I was bummed but ordered a cheese tray. Then the most rudest woman came and barked at her and said we don't do take out- it's Memorial Day weekend and we just can't do it. She was really rude- I explained I had two dogs outside and was excited to try the restaurant and it's really hot outside to put them in the car. She wasn't nice at all. I actually choked back tears and walked out flabbergasted that two girls said yes and then she was pretty rude in a mean tone of voice. I've never been treated like that at a restaurant before. Whoever she is - she should not be working in the front of the restaurant. After that experience I would never spend a penny here and bring my own food. Stone Hill is a beautiful place. Had I known this previously I would have packed a gourmet picnic basket and had a better time. I shouldn't have let her get to me so much because she was probably having a bad day. Funny thing was the restaurant didn't even look that busy and there were empty tables. Don't come expecting take out at the Vintage or even waste your money here siting inside a dark place when all the beauty is outside. I've dined out a lot and have had take out at even the best restaurants in towns. I understand policies but she wasn't wasn't accommodating or even nice and she is in the service industry. For a place that tries hard to be fancy, Vintage was to me and my family, a complete joke. I took my stepfather who is formally a master chef from Munich, Germany to check out Hermann, MO for her German Roots. Boy were we suprised at how untrue the ties are to the homecountry. The residents of the town really have nothing to do with German Heritage (really only saw rednecks). We were laughing the whole time. The funniest part was at this restaurant, the Vintage. Were "authentic" German Potato Pancakes were really hash browns, and the Sourkraut was clearly straight from the can, and the potato salad straight from the super maket. They Americanized all the German dishes by making the Saurbraten into a sandwhich form with fries. We didnt expect much, but we were really disappointed, cause for the price, the food wasn't even close to real German food. And we went there for Octoberfest. Hermann is nice really only from the Winery. But in all actuality its a pretty depressed river town. Every home is for sale, and the streets were quite empty. We took a three day trip to the Hermann area and ended up eating here all three days. During my visits I had the pork schnitzel with dill cream sauce, pork chop with apples/goat cheese and the sampler plate with sauerbraten, schnitzel and knackwurst. My favorite by far was the pork schnitzel with dill cream sauce. I've always had the schnitzel with the red wine sauce, so this was different and very good. The potato pancake side was good. I wasn't impressed with the other sides as much, but you can substitute for the ones you want. The Stone Hill wines are featured and are reasonably priced. Leave room for an apple strudel! read more

Traveling through the Texas Hill Country, Arkansas and the Missouri Scenic River Area and decided to go a bit out of our way to Hermann, MO since we remembered having fine wine and a great dinner of Sauerbraten at the Stone Hill Winery Restaurant. I guess it is true that you "can never go home again." First off, let me say that the wine was very good. We had the Stone Hill Ozark Hellbender and it was quite good. The Sauerbraten was, at best, okay and something you would expect at a franchise restaurant off the interstate. The service, however, really ruined the evening. Waitress was poorly trained and the restaurant seemed understaffed. We asked about the choice of salad dressings and was handed a menu and told to read the choices. The same response when we asked about dessert. Waitress did not come back again and we eventually lost interest in dessert. We had to ask another staff member to bring us our check. This took another 5-10 minutes for our waitress to return. This was particularly odd in that less than half of the tables were filled while we were there. This has historically been such a fine restaurant. It is a genuine disappointment that it is focused on volume at the expense of a pleasurable dinning experience. read more

My husband and I came in for lunch and we had a little giggle when we realized we were the ONLY young couple there (25 year olds). The staff was friendly but we were confused with who our server was since we had 3 different people trying to take our order. I had no idea what I wanted so I asked one of the servers what she would recommend and she told me if I was in the mood to try some German food to try the German sampler. Super glad I listened to her because I loved it. I pretty much licked my plate clean. My favorite on the sampler was the sausage. One of the best!!! We also had their pretzels and cheese and we absolutely loved it. IT WAS SO GOOD!!! Stone Hill wine is tasty, which is what they serve since its part of the Stone Hill winery. Definitely try the Hermannsberger if you like reds. It's smooth. If you're more into a sweet white try the Sternberg White, semi sweet and smooth. read more

The food was good but they did not cook my husband's steak to correct temp. I had the special which was crab stuffed fillet. It was nice for a anniversary dinner. I thought it was a little over priced. It was kind of noisy but once the drunk group left it was better. The decor was neat. My husband and I have eaten at the Stone Hill Restaurant at leat 6 times. Recently we went there for the Octoberfest, Oct 15th for dinner. The menu was limited during the Octoberfest. We both ordered the schnitzle which came with german style potatoes and red cabbage. The cook could have used a lesson in German cooking or at least looked at a recipe. The schnitzle was deep fried, so it tasted more like a chicken fried steak than schnitzle. The potatoes tasted rancid rather than tart, and the cabbage was dry as a bone. None of the food was seasoned or prepared properly. We called the manager and sent the food back. This food is not worth the price. Skip it and eat at any other restuarant. read more

I had the sauerbraten, schnitzel, and knackwurst with potato pancakes, red cabbage, and applesauce. Nothing spectacular, but not bad either. My wife and I had visited wineries all weekend and we were tired of wine so we had the heffenweisen beer which was good. We sat in a back room. Unfortunately there was a large group of ladies who had obviously been enjoying the wineries all day and the atmosphere was so loud we could hardly hear each other talk. So delicious! We celebrated our 10th anniversary at this restaurant and decided to come back for our 18th anniversary. We were not disappointed. Terrible and disorganized. When my vegetarian friend asked for recommendations, our server suggested multiple dishes containing meat and fish products. The menu is NOT vegetarian friendly. It's 2018, so expectations of bread and salads can no longer suffice with the expectations that would qualify customer satisfaction. My experience was worse. I'm pregnant and the menu is, of course, not pregnancy friendly. However, the quiche was supposed to contain ingredients that are pregnancy friendly. The waitress was too lazy to recall the actual quiche of the day, which when brought out contained none of the 2 ingredients she listed, plus was not pregnancy friendly. Needless to say I didn't eat it. Since my friends had already finished their meal by the time she came to get my second order, I concluded the restaurant couldn't handle a second order and opted out. Guess what was on the bill for which we waited an additional 20+ minutes after she took the dishes? The quiche. Service was not worth the price. Oh! $8 pretzel sticks come with 3 pretzels. Visiting wineries in the area and this place came highly recommend. We were there for lunch so they were not very crowded. We were seated right away and our waitress came and took our drink order. She came back with our drinks and went through the menu answering all of our questions and made recommendations based on what we told her we liked. We both got schnitzel...I got with jager sauce and my wife got dill sauce. Oh my! Both were very good! They were cooked to perfection...crispy, tender, and juicy. I would get either one again. Sides wete good, not great...potato salad very good...red cabbage just OK...saurkraut good. They serve little loaves of bread with the meal...2 dark rye and 2 white breads with real butter...really good...got extra to take with us as a snack. After our meal was over, we did a tasting at the winery and found a couple of wines we liked. Enjoyed the whole experience! We will be back! read more

My wife and I decided to spend our 6 year wedding anniversary dinner here. We decided to order the chicken with Norton Sauce and the vegetarian flatbread. The chicken dish came out nice and we enjoyed the sauce. The flatbread was a whole other story. It was supposed to be a flatbread covered in chickpeas with olives, herbs, tomatoes, and balsamic. When it arrived we noticed it was missing the herbs and balsamic. We had a few bites and decided to send it back. When our waitress went back to inquire she told us that it was prepped by the kid who usually makes the salads. Our waitress told us that she has never seen anyone order one so she didn't know what it was supposed to look like. All this for $15! She then told us that she would take 1/2 off the bill for the dish. The wine we had was good (and cheap!) which made up for the food. Overall I don't think the food was worth the money (especially from a wait staff in beat up old Vans). read more
