What a great little place. We stopped in here to grab a bite to eat after the long drive to town. Dropped off our stuff at our Airbnb and headed straight here. The only negative I have is that I didn't have time to eat more of the food. And order more drinks. So, this one will be on the list for a return visit. But, I can hear you saying... "Rob, you only scored it 4 out of 5!" Well, that is because I can't do a half-star. So let me explain! The Food - Amazing Schnitzel with all the right sides. Katie got the salmon, again seasoned and cooked to perfection. They get all stars for the food! The Ambiance - This place, at one time, was a working mill and has all of that rustic charm. There are private rooms that are decked out in the downstairs of the place, and plenty of amazing thick-beamed rooms by the bar and main seating area. Lots of fun things outside when it isn't too cold. Again, all the stars! The Service - The person who seated us gave us a quick rundown on the local liquors and their general food. Then, just for grins, let us go take pictures downstairs and at parts of the bar. See attached. She also offered to go further, but we declined and headed to our table. Our waitress... well... she was efficient and friendly. She took our order correctly and delivered the food and check appropriately. And here is where the half-star gets lost. I asked, "Which do you think is better tonight? The Lobster Spätzle or the Schnitzel?" Katie said I looked at her like she had just melted onto the floor when she replied with. "I prefer the Schnitzel! But, I haven't ever had any spätzle." Wait?!?!?! You are working in a Germanesq restaurant, in a Historic German town, and are over the age of 45. Obviously have worked here for a while. And you don't know what one of the 6 dinner dishes, not a salad or a burger, tastes like?!?!?! I mean... I can understand if it was vegan or something like that... but she just told me that she likes the PORK Schnitzel! Owner/Manager... please make sure your peeps can answer the simple flavor questions. Another place was even able to tell me which wine they thought would go with my food... off the top of her head, and they had more on the menu. That said! I wasn't impressed with the artichoke dip that we had here. The pretzel pieces were hard too. We spent $16 on something that was really bland. The service wasn't the best either. Actually, we found another waitress nearby to help us obtain our bill since the one we had was having a day. read more

Wow wow wow. Stopped here for a nice lunch while visiting Herman. Sat on their patio and the weather happened to be spectacular. Our server was the bartender and hr was fantastic, knowledgeable and attentive, even while managing the bar and the patio at the same time. Her recommended drinks for us and they were great! On a road trip with my kids. We stopped in this charming little town at a Bed and Breakfast. This is the restaurant the BNB pushes. To be fair I have no idea if there's much else open. The menu looked amazing (expensive). I assumed it was a more casual upscale place. Really fun old inside. We were hesitant due to the prices but excited. The service was slow and the staff was extra relaxed. This doesn't bother me at all, but if my Main course is 40.00 dollars I expect the staff to be a bit different. The hostess, Altho really sweet, was sitting on a bench yawning and at one point skipped all the way through the dinning area to get to the back of house. That did provide entertainment for my family and her stride was impressive, it was kind of weird. Only took her three skips to get through the entire room. The bus boy looked like he was going to cry and just was aimlessly walking around. Ok... There was only a portion of the menu "available" and if I had known this, I wouldn't have gone at all. With the limited choices we ordered. My daughter got the Caesar salad with chicken. The chicken was SO dry. The lettuce was bitter and slimy. Old. Everything was just not great. Not BAD, but for 40.00 an entire.... It was ridiculous. Before we left, we heard our server tell the table next to us, "oh there's no chef here right now." ... !!! Super disappointing. Tin Mill is worth the visit. From the amazing wait staff to the atmosphere. Enjoy a meal in a converted mill whose rustic interior adds to the experience. I enjoyed a mulled wine, salmon and potato cakes. The food was prepared well and was delicious. The caveat (there's always a caveat) is, be prepared to spend a lot of money on a meal that I've personally cooked for about a 5th of the price. We were seated upon arrival in this beautiful restaurant by the host. Our staff person was named Felicity--the same name as our beautiful great neice. She was helpful, kind, and so amenable. She took our drink and appetizer orders. My old fashioned and the shared calamari, along with Bavarian soft pretzels were sooooo good. Alone either could have been a person's meal. My meal was seafood spatzel. It had crab, lobster, shrimp, and a deliciously light cheesey sauce. It was accompanied by perfectly cooked, nicely seasoned carrots and broccoli. I have eaten here a few times and the food is good and the speciality German food is a great. My only problem with this establishment is that they don't understand how to run a business. Tonight has not been the first time I have stopped in coming back to St Louis from my farm to find the restaurant open, exciting my taste buds only to be told that they couldn't seat me. It was well before closing but I guess because of limited servers they couldn't fit us in. 75% of the tables were empty. Call me crazy, but I do not believe this the best policy for a restaurant. I own my own company and given a chance to collect another $150 in revenue on a Wednesday night that seemed to be less than busy, I would jump at the chance to sit another table. We were looking for something in Hermann that offered a variety of food choices other than just German. We managed upon Tin Mill. We sat on the first level, it's a small little area and you place your order at the bar and pick it up at a window once it's ready. For your typical "bar food" the food was very good! We got a burger, chicken sandwich, the hot honey flatbread and the fried cauliflower. It was all very, very tasty! It was a bit pricey, but we had a great experience and great food. My husband enjoyed his salmon and loved the dill mashed potatoes. He tried one of there bloody Mary's and it was pretty darn good. My first time in Hermann, Missouri and at this establishment. We decided to have some German food since we were in this cute "German" town. We were seated pretty quickly. There were only 2 or 3 tables that had customers. There were plenty of staff to wait on customers. But we were not waited on for about 7 mins. I stopped another waitress and asked when we were going to be served. Apparently there was a section change and our waitress, Kayla, didn't know we were in her section. We didn't get water or a carafe full of water until we asked for it. We ordered the crab cakes, $18, which were awesome. We also ordered the Schnitzel, $28. This dish had a nice side of cabbage which was tasty and potatoes which were not completely cooked. It also came with a lightly dill flavored gravy. We shared both dishes. The crab cakes were pretty good sized. For a $28 plate of Schnitzel, there was only 1 thin piece of meat which we found disappointing. We also had a Bloody Mary each, $16. This meal was $85 before tax and tip. Now the big question is would we go back? Maybe for only the crab cakes. The Schnitzel dish needed at least 2 pieces of meat for $28. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because of the crab cakes otherwise I would have given 1 or 2 stars. read more

I don't like to be overly critical, but there wasn't anything about this place that impressed me other than the decent patio right off of 1st Street (we visited in the fall). In the warmer months the patio offers plenty of sun and shade, people watching, and a spot right on the main strip to enjoy drinks with your crew. As for the food, it's basic bar food at best, nothing I'll be craving to come back for, but also nothing that left me disappointed. The service was standard - not above and beyond, but also not terrible. Overall, it's better suited for lunch or drinks, since this town offers plenty of other spots to enjoy a nice dinner. We had just arrived in Herman and were hungry and thirsty. Friends had mentioned that they had liked Tin Mill Brewing so we stopped in for a tasting of their beers and a light lunch. As we went in there wasn't anyone there except for the bartender. We got a flight of their beers, the bartender seemed annoyed that we were asking him to pour us some beer and answer questions about them, because he had to get off his phone for a minute. We also ordered some food, but they were out of half the menu at 3 in the afternoon.We settled for pretzel with beer cheese and a basket of fries. The pretzel was hard and stale. The fries were freezer burnt. I went and picked up the food and mentioned that the ketchup bottle was almost empty and was told I could get some ketchup packets. The whole time we were there the bartender was on his phone except for when another person came in and ordered a beer.
