Being a watch junky with far more Swiss watches than I need but not near as many as I want, I thought of a somewhat obscure brand called NOMOS that is a small hand made, in house movement timepiece manufacturer located in Glashütte, Germany. So doing a little research I discover that the only authorized NOMOS dealer in Australia is this one in Sydney. After getting to Sydney my girlfriend and I go visit this shop which is small and on the 10th floor of a office building downtown. They mostly specialize in high end watch repair and selling some used vintage pieces. But they also feature the full NOMOS line. I was only there to look and check prices but the saving was far too tempting and we ended up getting the classic Bauhaus design his and hers NOMOS Tangente hand winders. The experience was excellent and the woman helping us was very knowledgeable and had us try on anything we liked and ask lots of questions. Truly an enjoyable experience and now we have some memorable souvenirs from the trip. Totally worth a visit if you are into vintage time pieces or the NOMOS brand.

The dealer would not exchange the watch for us and not only that they told us it is our fault the watch has a dent on the side, it is not their problem to exchange and if we want a new watch or any kind of resolution we need to go ask the manufacturer. If you want no after sales service, bad attitude, sales managers that avoid any kind of responsibility, feel free to visit the store otherwise stay away! If you insist to buy a watch from there I recommend you take a professional watch technician and a lawyer.

For tourists only, just visit the Guests Services and you will receive the Visitor Passport for extra discounts in most stores. Twice I've been to Balmain Watch House and twice I've been overwhelmed with the desire to stage a…read moreplay/host a murder mystery party in its quarters. An old police lockup built in 1854, this original building is made up of several small sandstone rooms, each one perfect for staging a different scene/ hiding certain clues. As the lovely old lady led me through the watch house, I imagined leading an audience/dinner party through its halls, the cold sandstone and metal bars easily setting the scene. At any point I expected to discover that the lady guiding me through was in fact a ghost, leading me into a deathly trap in order to avenge her own unfortunate death. Despite the lockup's grim history (was it grim? Or have I just painted it with my own grim tales?) the building is beautiful and its sparse walls make the perfect backdrop for the exhibitions that take place here. On sunny days light comes through the windows and open ceilings to light the rooms, and for those brief seconds you can imagine what these rays of hope/taunts of freedom could have been to the prisoners. The watch house is a nice stop-over on a walk down to the East Balmain wharf. Opening hours depend on the exhibit, but the building is free to check out on Saturdays for a small donation. Whilst their website says they hire the space out for art, sculpture, pottery and craft exhibitions, I'm yet to hear their opinions on using the space for theatre productions and/or murder mystery parties. Or fright nights. Or Halloween sleepovers. I'll keep you posted.

I was interested in purchasing a pink diamond and although they didn't have that in store, I quickly found another diamond earring to fall in love with. Suellen was friendly and explained so many finer points about their Diamond collection and grading process. Currently there is a sale on some displayed jewellery and she offered me a generous discount on the princess cut earrings. When it comes to high end luxury items, service makes all the difference and Suellen definitely knows that.
