Very nice selection of pretty much anything you could want. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Could have spent hours in there.

I've been here a few times and have always been able to walk out with something or at least an inspiration, a reminder of some forgotten names that haven't been heard of in a while. The front of the store has a more modern make over, however, the further deep you go into the store, it still has the same rustic look. Don't be intimidated by the amount of bins, everything is organized and labeled. If you can think it, there is a section for it. This place loses one star for me as some of the pricing is silly and too dart board. It is, however, the only place I can get JT and Britney DJ 12" (as well as other pop guilty pleasures). read more

Vinyl records is actually a very good store. Awesome selection, every genre and sub genre you could want. You could spend hours in here! However, the prices are sh** way too expensive. Listen I understand that you have great stuff and some rare stuff too but you got to take a loss on some of that sentimentality man. Lower the prices so you can move some units. I gave up digging after a while because I didn't want to break the bank for the random stuff I thought looked good. Prices I saw today included Toro Y moi's "causer of this" for a whopping 34.99. An opened copy of the record was also 34.99. This album is worth 17-20$ max. Every single washed out record was also 34.99 including 2010's life of leisure ep that is just a printed cardboard sleeve with a disc inside it. These lps are also not worth that much in any book. Furthermore, Shlohmo's latest "dark red" was, I kid you not, 45$ (didn't even specify whether or not it was pressed on red vinyl). Currently this album is worth half that on discogs and maybe 25$ from the label. Oh yeah the owner is posh and a a record store clerk straight out of the movies. You tried to school some kid on how Brian Eno isn't known for his ambient work, you didn't even know what the Apollo sound track is and you said roxy music probably 5 times in a row. You gave me shit about putting african music in with bob marley by accident and you also made some poor french guy seem like an idiot for trying to dig behind the counter when there is literally boxes of records everywhere. PS YOUR STONES THROW SECTION HAS NO STONES THROW MAN!!! Seriously though this is a great record store. I've gone in here a few times now and every time I go in I feel like I am not welcomed. There's a saying that goes something along the lines of "if your ears feel warm someone is probably thinking about you, talking about you, or watching you." I feel like every time I have walked into the store the owner has his eyes locked in on me. After reading the other reviews on this page I feel better knowing that I am not the only one who feels this way. In terms of the store being overpriced, I can certainly agree with this. Just a few weeks ago I went in to check out some records and made note of the prices. I walked down the street to check out Beat Street Records to find the same records half the price of what Vinyl was asking for. Overall, my experience with this store is negative. I really try to give a place a chance because sometimes people have bad days and may be tired which results in a lack of work productivity and customer service. However after multiple visits and comparing prices of records bought at Vinyl with other stores offering the same ones (in the Downtown core) I will no longer be shopping here. The clutter and disorganization is not a huge deal for me, but rather the owner and his demeaning, condescending, snob-like attitude as a pushing factor makes me feel unwelcomed. read more

Possibly the highest prices I've seen on used and new vinyl ANYWHERE in Canada thus far. Period. Used vinyl, sure charge what you want if people are apparently willing to pay these prices (and I don't believe they are on average hence the intense amount of inventory). But the new releases, I know what these records I looked at sell for and I found the price gouging offensive enough to sign up for this review. I'm just a visitor to Vancouver, but if this guy is actually moving copies at these prices this city is officially crazy hahaha. If you can handle the clutter, you are absolutely certain to come up with something that you were dying to hear here. This store is packed full of classics, funk, jazz, punk, new wave...just about anything your ears have been aching to hear can be found here. The prices are reasonable, and although this might not be the most relaxing shopping atmosphere (clutter, mess, noise), there is a lot of great music here, and you'll also find turntables, needles, headphones and they sell concert tickets too. read more

Truly entertaining. I'll be the first to admit that it is MY fault for paying too much for a record, but the other reviews are correct, you'll see all kinds of stuff here that you'd love to buy but the prices are 30-50% higher than the going rate. (I did however get a record for about $30 that is currently starting at $60 on Discogs, so yay me! Not sure it makes up for the other stuff.) Check the condition on each and every record even if you aren't already in the habit of it, I pulled out a couple of discs that literally had chunks missing (not just a light scratch)-- and they were priced in the $20-30 range. And no listening station, which is not OK if you are selling records in that condition. Owner is a nice guy who talked our ear off about Skinny Puppy and dropped names of old Nettwerk folks all over the place, hehehe. I wish him the best of luck but that's not how I would run a record shop. read more

well the word is out on this store. very vey very expensive. records are for the most part in terrible condition, most good stores won't put out damaged albums unless absolutely rare. it's called quality control, every other business does it. unfortunately i see a lot of shoppers who don't check out the vinyl before buying it and that's how they make money i guess that and selling the "good" stuff they get from locals who bring records in and flipping them online for world market prices. i love, love, love records, it's almost an addiction for me and i hate, hate, hate this store. read more

Everyone who has given a bad review of this place seems to be only commenting high prices and it seems to be due to the lack of knowledge on the customers behalf. David Jones (the owner) personally grades all the records and most of these supposedly "ridiculously priced" vinyls are a limited edition versions, first pressing, mono, etc. If you ask him he will give you a cheaper version that is found in one of many many bargain bins. He doesn't sell vinyls for high prices for the sake of ripping people off, if you are looking for a cheap copy of Led Zeppelin I he has it, you are probably looking at the cream of the crop first pressing US or Canadian copy if its 40+ dollars. I have gone here since I was 14 and if you ask him about the price there is always justification, and now that Im older, own some extremely rare records, avidly cross check stores inventory with discogs, I can say without a doubt David is pricing records fairly. Hes also one of the few people who will bargain with you and lower a price if you talk to him. Last week while visiting home (now live in Montreal) I bought a copy of Love - Out Here. Ive been looking for that record for 5 years, and every three days go record hunting no matter what city I am in, and Ive travel a lot. His copy was still in the shrink wrap from 1969 and was way cheaper than any copy on ebay or discogs, and in mint condition compared to every other salvageable copy of it. He knew exactly how much it was worth and sold it definitely under for around 50 dollars (this record can go for 100+ in sub-standard condition). Instead of walking out with a bad attitude, talk to the man and I assure you he will dig up a cheap version of whatever you are looking for, or better yet if you ask him why something cost as much as it does he will tell you when it was made, where its from, etc. In his bargain bins I got Led Zeppelin I for 2 dollars! It was a first pressing canadian version in horrible conditions, but fucking 2 dollars and it played! No other record store is that generous. If you are offended by the price its cause you dont know what youre holding. You cant blame a man for knowing what hes selling you and knowing the price. Sure Ameba will sell you the same record for 3 dollars, but its cause some 19 year old kid priced it without realizing what it was, and I understand as a crate digger and person who goes to record fairs the appeal of mislabelling (you get a expensive object for cheap, everyone for all of mankind has loved deals like that), but dont shit on someone for doing their research and knowing what theyre selling you. I applaud David for having the best collection in Canada and knowing his store better than any vinyl business owner I know. He is also extremely nice, those who say otherwise obviously weren't talking to the same person. read more

One star is overrated for this business. They have a lot of vinyl of which most is highly overpriced. But what really makes it horrible is the customer service...or lack there of. The person there treats people with attitude, is rude and mean. Walked in and a customer asked a question the guy treated him like an idiot. Walked back out and never going back! read more

I just called into this place and the customer service was really poor. He was snappy, irritable, and demeaning. I don't plan to deal with this business just because I worry that upon stepping into the store I was have my head torn off and it would ruin that part of my day. read more

Pretty decent selection, but by far the most expensive shop in the city. And is up there with one of the most expensive ones ive ever been too. And ive been to hundreds. Its a pity really, i would have happily dropped a few hundred dollars in here, but i couldn't convince myself it was ok to spend that money on only a few records. Even the cheap records are way way over priced. Just from memory i saw a few that i have seen around the city for 2 -3 dollars and this guy was selling them for 12-15 dollars. The exact same ones. Mister shop owner don't take this as and attack on yourself, you have nice shop and i would love to go there and spend money all day. But I cant convince myself to pay that kind of money for records that are cheaper in every other shop in the city. I've read a few reviews and it appears im not the only one who thinks this. If its too expensive to rent the place then move. Record shoppers seek out record shops. It doesnt matter about location. I heard you talking to customers and you seem like a nice guy, so i hope you do well. But mate you have got to drop those prices. If you do, ill come in and buy plenty.
