I was a bit hesitant at first about contacting Violet to take my graduation photographs. My father had been a photographer for some years and even had his own studio at one point, so the obvious decision would have been to ask him to take my pictures, but after seeing Violet's portfolio, I was convinced to contact her. Violet was prompt in her replies to all my messages and was very helpful in answering my questions. After meeting for coffee, Violet helped me brainstorm ideas for locations, outfits, and even showed me samples of photo shoots she has previously worked on. Violet was beyond flexible with arranging a date for the photo shoot and her prices were competitive with those of other photographers in the area. On the day of the photo shoot, Violet was well prepared and brought a book filled with ideas for poses. Also, although I had only booked a 2-hour photo shoot, Violet was not strict with the time and allowed the photo shoot to go a bit beyond that. Violet even went out of her way to accommodate me when I asked her to send me a few pictures from the photoshoot before she was able to edit them. I don't know of any photographer who would have set time aside to grant this added request. I was more than satisfied with the photographs. I showed my parents the pictures and they were stunned by how good the photographs turned out. My father, a photographer of over twenty years, even praised Violet's skills with a camera. I was under the impression that photo shoots were lengthy and exhausting, but Violet made this photo shoot enjoyable and managed to take over 660 photographs. Violet came out to Tucson to shoot our desert wedding, and did a wonderful job capturing the beauty of the setting as well as the wonderful moments from the ceremony and reception. She was cheerful in wrangling our large, extended families into group shots and catching those intimate details that help wedding photos to stand out. (Note that Violet does not typically work in Arizona; this was a special favor, as I have known her a long time and worked with her before. She also shot our engagement photos in Chicago, because we all happened to be in that city at the time.) Our wedding was literally out in the desert, and it was important to us that the cactus and mountains be featured prominently in the images, which they were. Violet also managed to get some good pictures of the cake even though the cake itself proved to be structurally unstable and the time window for capturing its beauty was fairly small. She came to my hotel room early in the morning, as we were getting ready, and spent the entire day tirelessly snapping photos, setting up great, imaginative shots, and coaching all of us.
