The seller had maintenance records, the engines started easily, the hull looked clean, and the sea trial appeared uneventful. Still, before committing to a purchase of that size, I decided to hire Sueños Azules Marine Surveying & Consulting for a complete pre-purchase survey. That decision turned out to be one of the smartest investments I made during the entire buying process. Capt. John Banister approached the survey with a level of detail that immediately stood out. Rather than focusing only on the obvious items, he systematically worked through every major system onboard. He inspected the hull, deck hardware, electrical panels, wiring, batteries, fuel system, steering components, plumbing, navigation electronics, safety equipment, and overall structural condition of the vessel. His ability to explain what he was seeing in real time was quite impressive. Instead of simply noting deficiencies, he described why certain findings mattered, how they could affect long-term ownership costs, and which items were common for a vessel of that age versus issues that deserved immediate attention. The boat was powered by twin Yamaha outboards, and the engine survey alone was worth the cost of hiring him. Capt. John connected diagnostic equipment, reviewed engine history, checked operating temperatures, evaluated performance during the sea trial, and analyzed data that I never would have been able to access myself. During the process, he identified several discrepancies between the seller's representations and the actual engine history. None of them were deal-breakers, but they were important enough to influence the value of the vessel. Another area where his expertise really showed was in identifying deferred maintenance. The boat looked excellent cosmetically, but he spotted several issues hidden behind access panels and inside compartments that most buyers would never think to inspect. These findings gave me a much clearer picture of what ownership would actually look like over the next few years. The final report was incredibly comprehensive. I also love that he never pushed me toward or away from the purchase. He simply provided objective information and let me make an informed decision. That level of professionalism is becoming harder to find. For anyone considering the purchase of a used boat, especially one with complex systems and expensive engines, I can't recommend Sueños Azules enough. The survey provided far more than a checklist, it gave me a complete understanding of the vessel I was buying and probably saved me from several expensive surprises after taking ownership.

There are plenty of other surveyors across the pan handle, do not hire this man. John Banister did an initial quote for a walk through a survey after we completed our boat, the quote was $4,500. He did the pre purchase walk through for $1,500. HE DID NOT NOTICE THAT ONE ENGINE WAS TOAST. $200k later and we have two new engines. We paid John Banister for thermal imaging of our vessel for $2,600. That was without a shadow of a doubt the most worthless report we have ever paid for. 9/1/24 we completed our vessel, about 8 month after we contracted Mr Banister. John told us the price was now $3,800 instead of $3,000 to come back. We have all of this clearly stating in writing, John is trying to fabricate some story that it was initially for a pre purchase survey. Hey listen you assmat buffoon, nothing changed here except your price because you felt it was too low. I don't care if we have to pay $10k, you are a liar and a cheater and you don't deserve to touch anybody's boats. This man is a thief! I will be reporting him to the state license board with all of our written communication hoping to have his license revoked. We will be suing him for his negligence with our initial reporting and hopefully drown him in debt. This man is a complete asshole and POS!!

The Lab Tech spends more time at the front desk explaining WHY they can't take walk ins today and that they're too busy. Instead of just putting A SIGN on the door saying NO WALK INS. We appt holders have to sit here for HOURS because she's running behind because she spends more time explaining that she is running behind and can't take walk ins.... it is a never ending cycle. Something needs to be done. I don't have 2 hours to waste waiting for an appt because Labcorp is too cheap to pay someone at the desk and an extra tech!!!
