Five stars for Kariann and crew. We had been advised the tire on our all wheel drive was not repairable. We we facing replacing all four tires because the old tires and new tire were just different enough in diameter to cause issues with ABS and AWD. In fact, the tire in question was repairable with patch and plug saving us $1200!!! This is an honest shop with great staff. Went in for tires and an alignment and got the worst experience of my life! They destroyed my brand new rims, they torched the set screws out of the rotors, they didn't grease the new lower ball joints they installed! They did order new rims but messed yet another one up and Kerri Ann the manager said "we aren't getting you a new one" worst experience I've ever had at an automotive shop! Absolutely horrid. They wanted my truck here early to make sure they could fix it. I had to tow it here....Which isn't cheap. I called them the day of my appointment was to make sure they could do it. The said yes, it would only take a couple of hours. By the next day I still hadn't heard anything. So I called them in the morning, they said it should be done by lunch....It was after lunch still haven't heard anything. Called them AGAIN then they proceeded to tell me sorry we didn't call you, but we can't do your truck. My truck has been here for 5 days. And you told me you could do it multiple times. Atleast tell me right away you can't do it. Do you seriously think you can ignore it, and never tell me. Now I have to tow it elsewhere again. Thanks VIP, you won't be getting my service again. I'm seldom impressed enough with an auto repair business to leave a comment, but from booking and confirmation through the appointment, my experience with VIP in Rockland couldn't have been better. Ok, it was only a state inspection, but I booked online, appointments were available in a reasonable time frame and the process was easy as pie! I showed up at the appointed hour and quick as can be, the service was completed. Counter staff is especially efficient and competent. Things run like clockwork. Very impressive. I can't speak to the quality of the work they do here. I got an oil change for a good deal, and a quote for a break replacement that looked reasonable, price-wise. But I know I won't be back to get any of that bigger work done because of the ignorant xenophobic/homophobic stuff one of the guys behind the counter was spouting off. They were all talking about aliens and the bible for a minute (whatever, none of my business) but when the talk turned from space aliens to "Aliens can come from anywhere: Mexico, Guatemala...if they're not from here, they're queer!" it stopped being funny and started making me think about how they might treat folks who aren't straight and/or white in this space. We were on vacation and got a flat. We called ahead and they said they could repair the tire and put it back on for us. We got there and they questioned if they could get it done within the day. I went in for a state auto inspection. No problem, passed and the woman behind the counter couldn't have been nicer. I also got the opportunity to speak with the technician. Again, helpful and friendly. She told me, which I already knew, I needed new tires and the rear breaks would need new pads and rotors very soon. Both women, although not pushing me but suggesting I get this work done before "the snow flies". They gave me a quote for both (in writing). I went home and checked around and thought the quote was fair. The next week I went there and made an appointment for both brakes and tires. I asked the person behind the counter (Dalton Winchenbach) if the parts/tires would be stocked because I've had an experience where I had to come back because the parts were not there (at another auto service place) . He looked at their copy of my quote and assured me they would be there and ready to go. He called me the day the work was to be done after I had dropped my car off the day before and said they didn't have the tires in stock or any substitutes. He also said the breaks didn't need to be fixed, "they're fine" and didn't know where I got this information. "There is no quote for the brakes". We had already discussed the quote the day before and I still have a copy (you have to remember your lies in order to be a good liar). I told him I had the quote and your people told me I needed the work done! At that point he told me he didn't "need my attitude". I promptly came and got my car. I will never go back there. They share their building with O'Reilly auto parts. When I was dropping my car & keys the night before, VIP had closed so I asked the man at the O'Reilly counter; "do these guys know what they're doing?" At first he didn't say anything then said "who knows?" and "you'll probably be ok". I've used VIP at 2 other locations in the past and they have been terrific. The route 1, Rockland, Maine location certainly is not. Run don't walk!! read more

Came in for a safety sticker to later be informed my car failed because of a ball joint on the driver side- had no issues prior to my visit- set up an appointment- at my appointment I was told it's the upper control arm on the passenger side- ok- then was given a Maine sticker- two days later horrible knocking started coming from the front end- to later be told it's the ball joint- but to only change the upper control arm on the opposite side- drove away after service and still had a god awful noise turning- brought it back again and was told the repair was faulty equipment and was warranted- but overhead the desk jockeys ( they didn't tighten the arms enough). I was brought in the garage and told the part was faulty (lie) and while the wheels were off I was told it might be a good idea to do the front brakes- which after inspection I agreed- after all the work was done, not but 20 miles- noise was back and abs sensor went on. After that I was done I took the vehicle to another garage and found out none of the work preformed at vip was necessary and it was a right wheel bearing. They also repaired the abs sensor vip failed to secure. Do not get your car serviced at this location- for your peace of mind and safety, these people have no idea what they are doing. We got a nail in our tire while on vacation in Maine. Took our vehicle in to VIP Tire in Rockland, Maine on Monday morning. Talked to Karriann and told her about our predicament and that we had to travel to northern Maine to get to our next destination. Even though they were extremely busy, she was able to get us a new tire installed in less than an hour and we were on our way. She was extremely professional and very friendly and understanding about the situation. She turned a stressful situation into a great day for us. Recently, I purchased a set of 4 all-season tires from VIP for my Subaru Outback. They installed these tires and also completed a full alignment (additional cost)- it was quick, relatively painless, and overall the service was great. The salesperson wasn't too aggressive in trying to sell me additional services and even walked me out back for a undercarriage check with the mechanic. These tires were a great middle of the road buy. Until about a week in... On my way up to the mountains, I noticed about 2 hours in to the drive a subtle front-end shake. It appeared out of no where- no pot holes etc. Long story short, after stopping once to check this out before dismissing the issue and continuing on, the shake proceeded to deteriorate to the point of a significant car-wide wobble, all within several miles of driving. My girlfriend convinced me to pull over and take another look and this time check the lug nuts... Sure enough, two of the five lug nuts on the front left tire were FINGER LOOSE! Another one was also loose on the back left. We were surely only miles away from loosing the front tire altogether. This is ridiculous. Who knows what was going on, if it was an under calibrated tool or what, but for a tire specialty store to not crank down enough on the lug nuts with their gun is absurd. It took a lug nut wrench on the roadside of rural Maine to do the job right once and for all. read more

I was really impresseed with the super helpful service I received here after noticing that the low tire pressure light was on in my rental car. I pulled into their lot, explained the problem to the service representative and he very cheerfully offered to help me out. He checked the air in my tires and filled the air in the tire that was low on air and he didn't even charge me! Yay! I took my car in to be inspected. I knew I needed one new tire but found when I got there my two rear tires needed to be replaced because they weren't aligned properly and had worn unevenly, which was true but they said I needed all 4 new tires, which wasn't true, one was fine. They did not ask me what kind of tires I was looking for they offered me a fair price on the tires but told me nothing about them, are they all weather are they any good? I don't know because they didn't ask me anything. They also wanted $169 in LABOR to install 4 tires. That's obscenely expensive, I walked out. I've never spent so much on labor for tires in my life. I was very displeased with the prices and with the customer service I received there. The total for 3 tires plus install with them was $440, I went to a local garage and got 3 good all weather tires installed and aligned for $280. read more

Mostly, I've interacted with Robyn and Dustin, and they are both great to work with. Very friendly and patient with my questions, but also knowledgeable about what they do here. More than once, they've talked me through options, and helped me find a good solution that also saved me money. I was happy with the way they took care of a fleet vehicle I'm responsible for, so I started bringing my personal business here as well. The waiting area might be a little small, but it's clean and service usually doesn't take very long. On nice days, I like to take a walk anyway. Awful!! We were having a hitch switched from one of our SUV's to are other one since we were going to be trading that one in for a new vehicle; but still wanted towing capability. Assuming they knew what they were doing they asked for one vehicle at a time. After removing the hitch from our first SUV, once they got the second they figured out that it was a different frame and could not be done. We asked them to replace the hitch on the original vehicle. Of course that had to be done on another day. At that time they told us they broke a bolt trying to get the hitch off so it would need to be replaced...ok. A few days later we brought the original SUV back to get it re-installed. Even though they removed it without checking, they still happily charged us for re-installing the hitch they shouldn't have removed in the first place. In addition, they re-installed the hitch without the broken bolt, therefore making the hitch un-usable. They said it would take days to get the bolt, and they told us this the other day....they did not! Now we have an unusable hitch installed on an SUV we were trying to turn in for a new vehicle tomorrow. Also in addition to this the general customer service was awful. Long waits just to be ackknowledged. One member of the team went off on a profanity laced tirade at the customer desk about another employee while there was a child in the store. Just a very un-professional place. There are lots of other mechanics in the midcoast area, so do not bring your vehicle here!! read more

I think they are criminals at VIP in Rockland. I took my car in to be inspected and they told me I did not pass, they had a long list of things that needed to be fixed before I would pass inspection all for a total of $997.63. The next day I took my car to Rockport automotive and they determined that to pass inspection I needed a new bulb for my license plate light and wheel bearings replaced for a total cost of $217. I honestly think they are systematically defrauding people. I am considering a report to the attorney general. read more
